I am applying for this scholarship due to the positive report I have heard from other current and former students who have tried to apply . I am enthusiastic about joining the Vocational Nursing program to further my education more and continue on with my career in healthcare. My ultimate goal for this program is to complete it successfully to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. From there I plan to work as a school nurse at the school my daughter goes to while I go forth with becoming a Registered Nurse. During my initial zoom meeting I had seen that there is a program offered through Gurnick that is LVN to RN that I am confident I will also be able to get accepted into and pursue. I am currently a full time night shift float pool CNA at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Nearly every shift that I work I am given a satisfied report by my patient’s and fellow staff stating that my skills should be used to become a RN, rather than just a CNA. Although CNAs are the backbone to the healthcare industry, my goal is to be able to do more than what I already can do for patients who don’t have a voice. I am confident that this is the career path I want to go down as it is a career that I have always looked up to and admired. As a child, whose physical abuse by a teacher was always covered up by the school nurse, it has always been important to me to never allow that to happen to any other child. Given that it was not only me it was happening to, but to my fellow classmates as well. I grew up wondering how such things happening to a class of first graders could be swept under the rug. It forced me to see how many children could have great home lives but face abuse in the public school system. It has led me to see that children deserve at least one person in their school that they could confide in. Now that I’m older and have worked quite a few healthcare jobs, I see the path that I want to take. Becoming a school nurse would allow me to accomplish these goals, to be able to guide not only my daughter, but other children throughout their years of school. To be able to pursue my goal of Registered Nursing is my long term goal, and to begin on that path I know the way is to get more experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
