Bio

I’m a high school senior from California with an interest in business, finance, and building things that create a real impact. I’ve always been drawn to leadership, whether that’s through co-founding Recirqt, where I help repurpose technology for students who lack access, or serving as captain of my varsity tennis team. Through Recirqt, I’ve helped lead efforts to collect over 1,200 devices and repurpose more than 300 for students across the Bay Area, while also teaching digital literacy classes. Outside of that, I coach tennis, where I’ve worked with over 200 students and learned how to connect with people and lead by example. I’m also involved in my school community as president of the Asian Student Association, where I focus on creating inclusive spaces and organizing initiatives that bring people together. What drives me most is taking small ideas and turning them into something meaningful. Whether it’s building a team, improving a system, or helping someone grow, I want to create opportunities that last beyond me.

The glowing screen of the computer was hardly visible, blocked by the wall of students. Helping out as a math tutor at KK’s tutoring program, I witnessed 4 kids attempting to share one computer. Seeing technology so abundant around me, I was astonished to see it so absent in this classroom. I realized the lack of devices wasn’t just inconvenient; it was limiting. Eager to help these kids gain access to computers, I co-founded Recirqt to address one main issue: the lack of technology in underserved communities. Recirqt’s mission was to collect, refurbish, and redistribute devices. After months of persistent effort of cold emailing tech companies and handing out flyers in our community, we landed our first partnership. Key Solutions, a Bay Area software company, donated dozens of desktops to help Recirqt’s cause. That same year, another partnership with Aim High resulted in 50+ laptops, allowing Recirqt to broaden its reach to non-profits, namely SMART SF and YoungSteamers. However, while helping boot up laptops for Sunday Friends, a non-profit that aids low-income families, I noticed students hesitating at the login screen. Some weren’t sure how to connect to Wi-Fi or navigate the basic interface. I recognized that Recirqt could expand its mission toward educating students about technology. With YoungSteamers, an organization focused on STEAM education for middle/elementary students, Recirqt launched its first digital literacy program. I designed and led workshops that introduced kids to both hardware and software fundamentals: navigating interfaces and understanding basic components of a computer. Students who had been hesitant in their ability to use and understand a computer were now pointing out CPUs and navigating the internet. Being the CEO of Recirqt, I learned that making change requires agency. From recognizing a problem to taking steps to solve it, I saw I could make a real impact. Recirqt has repurposed 300+ devices and collected 1,200+ across the Bay Area, while also expanding into education through 30+ digital literacy classes reaching 150+ students. What began with empathy for students crowded around a single screen became a commitment to giving them real access to tools vital to their education. Moving forward, I want to expand Recirqt by building more partnerships and scaling our digital literacy programs to reach more communities beyond the Bay Area.
