In my lifetime, I would love to work on finding treatments for diseases such as autoimmune diseases or cancer. Some of the technology we have developed in recent years to combat diseases like cancer, such as CAR-t cell therapy and oncolytic virus therapy, is truly fascinating. In order to be able to get to that point in my life, I plan to study Biomedical Engineering in college. Right now, I am a hardworking high school student who loves to play field hockey. I also coach field hockey and am a part of many clubs at my school including multiple clubs working with special needs students. I love to spend my time with friends I have met in these clubs. It makes my day seeing all kinds of students come together and laugh with each other despite their differences. One of my favorite things I have done recently was volunteered for a nonprofit organization called ADAMAS. They are an organization based in Costa Rica, and their mission is to provide a space where cancer patients can go to receive educational and emotional support. My job was to put together ways ADAMAS could raise money so that they could start a recreational center. I put together plans for a Walk-a-Thon and a ball that could be carried out once the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Furthermore, I created multiple COVID-friendly fundraisers that ADAMAS could do online including a t-shirt selling fundraiser. The best part of this volunteer experience was being able to feel like I was making a difference while managing to be creative and have fun.
