Teaching has been a meaningful and rewarding chapter of my life; however, I am now pursuing a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. As a single parent, I have dedicated myself to raising my son and prioritizing his needs throughout his school years. Now that he is older and more independent, I am able to fully commit to advancing my education and career in nursing.     Every stage of my life has shaped who I am and why I am pursuing a career in medicine. My path has not been traditional, but it has been purposeful, guided by responsibility, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving others. The challenges I have faced did not deter me; they refined my values and clarified my calling. Becoming a mother as a teenager was one of the most defining experiences of my life. While many of my peers were focused on themselves, I was learning to prioritize another human being’s needs above my own. That responsibility demanded maturity, perseverance, and sacrifice at an early age. It also instilled in me a profound sense of empathy, an understanding that people often face invisible struggles while still showing up every day. From that point forward, my choices were rooted in stability, service, and long-term purpose. As a single parent, I pursued higher education while balancing work, parenting, and financial constraints. I earned my teaching certification and later a master’s degree, becoming a middle school educator serving diverse student populations. Teaching allowed me to make a meaningful impact, but it also exposed me to the broader challenges families face, health concerns, limited access to care, emotional stress, and systemic barriers. I saw how healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, could change outcomes simply by listening, educating, and advocating. These experiences ultimately influenced my decision to pursue a career in medicine through nursing. I am drawn to healthcare because it offers the opportunity to support individuals during their most vulnerable moments. Returning to school later in life has required courage and sacrifice. Because I already hold both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, I have exhausted all grant funding and much of my financial aid eligibility.
