As an incoming 1L at Barry University, Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, I am passionate about getting my Juris Doctorate in order to pursue a career in victim advocacy. I want to make a difference in my community and use my legal education to help those who have been affected by violent crimes. During my undergraduate years at the University of Central Florida I crafted my curriculum to not only advance my understanding of the law, but to also gain insight on the human mind so I can best help survivors navigate sensitive legal issues. I also worked a full-time job throughout my undergraduate years, and have been working three jobs at once since graduating in order to help alleviate the upcoming financial burden of law school. My work ethic and unstoppable determination are two important skills that will lead me to succeed in law school and aid me in my mission to transform victims rights laws. I am excited to start the first chapter in obtaining my Juris Doctorate and I am even more excited to use my knowledge of the law to make our world a better place.

Traveling is a transformative experience because it introduces you to a variety of new and unique cultures, ideas, and viewpoints that can expand upon your understanding of the world. Immersing yourself in a new place can open your heart to so many different communities you may have never known about if you hadn't stepped out of your comfort zone. Traveling is one of the best ways to enrich your life with new and exciting experiences that will also lead to a plethora of personal growth.
Traveling gives you the opportunity to experience different cultures, which can introduce you to new traditions and values. Cultural awareness and sensitivity is important to developing a deeper understanding and empathy for cultures other than your own. Whether at work, at home, or in your community, it is important you show respect for different customs and traditions, and traveling is one of the best ways to develop an appreciation for other ways of life.
Encountering different viewpoints can help you develop a more open mind and increase flexibility in problem solving. While traveling, you are able to engage in conversations with people who have different opinions than you and those conversations can be beneficial to broadening your understanding of other cultures and the world. This skill can be important when faced with problem solving tasks, since it is important to view things from different perspectives.
In today's society especially, it can be hard to grasp a good global perspective. Traveling offers you the opportunity to understand and appreciate how interconnected this beautiful world is. Developing a deeper understanding and respect for different cultures is crucial in a society where it feels like everyone is put against each other. Traveling also gives you the opportunity to learn about global events and issues that you may not have been aware of before. Engage in discussions, asking respectful questions, and educating yourself on important global topics will help you blossom as a global citizen.
Lastly, traveling can lead to amazing self discovery. When being exposed to new things, you may begin to think deeply about your values, your beliefs, and discover new parts about yourself you didn’t know existed. Introspection plays a great part in personal growth and is widely considered a huge part in a person's development. You can also pick up new hobbies from your travels, and engage in these activities at home in order to stay connected to other parts of the world and foster happiness within yourself.
When you step outside your comfort zone, traveling can give you the beautiful ability to change yourself, and one day the world. Traveling allows you to develop great skills such as empathy, can make you well-rounded and informed, and helps strengthen your skills to help you navigate such a diverse and ever-changing world. By taking the skills you learned when traveling and incorporating them into your daily life, you can strengthen personal and professional relationships, and contribute positively to your community.
