I'm Lincoln Morrison, senior at Oak Grove HS. I want to be a chemical engineer. I enjoy chemistry and math, and am studying xylazine and biosensors as a lab technician at the University of Southern MS this summer before my senior year. I play varsity soccer which allowed me to be of service at our local elementary helping to unload kids in the mornings to give them someone to look up to. I think we enjoyed the outreach more than the kids. I really enjoy playing the French Horn/Mellophone as well as being our section leader in the band. In the band, we are accepting of everyone and make sure everyone is part of the group. I have been a soccer referee at my local soccer club for two years. Church is important to me, and I serve by running the sound and web feed for First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. I was recently inducted into the National Honor Society and look forward to the opportunities it will provide. I took a chance at a student government position this year and was elected to a position on the council. As part of the student council, I am spearheading a pickleball tournament to raise donations for our local animal shelter. This should be a great success. I have been able to obtain approvals from the rec commission, the school, and site manager of the courts for this event. I also enjoyed being a student ambassador for my school and assisting with graduation as part of the service for this organization. Mu Alpha and Beta also allow me to serve in my community at local events like kindergarten roundup, campus clean-up, local 5 K's, as well as school functions.

I would like to help others by pursuing a career in chemical engineering. Chemistry and my upper level math classes (Trigonometry, Geometry, etc) have been my favorite subjects in high school. Seeing things balance in equations is interesting to me. I recently completed Organic and AP Chemistry and am looking forward to AP Calculus this year.
I want to make an impact on people's lives through research and development of better bio-type testing for healthcare. I've seen the need for better testing and products for care by listening to my dad talk about his day to day life as a pediatric nurse. He explains how quicker and more specialized testing would help to treat children's diseases and save lives. For instance, he says bilirubin testing for babies needs to be faster and more accurate so as to reduce the side effects of hyperbilirubinemia. Faster and more accurate testing for toxic chemicals in the system could help save lives as well.
I just finished up a month long research project with our local university studying sensitivities of biosensors as they relate to xylazine. I enjoyed seeing my knowledge come to life as I experimented with buffers, interferants, and functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes to determine minute differences in our electrical current. I'm looking to further explore my love of chemistry and problem solving when I graduate from high school. Chemical engineering would allow me the opportunity to solve real-world problems by using a field of science that fascinates me.
I want to inspire interest in science at an early age, so I recently held a STEM fair for our local 5th graders consisting of over two-hundred students. I recruited my fellow seniors from physics, chemistry, the under water robotics team, and the drone program for hands-on demonstrations for the students at Bellevue elementary. The children participated, asked questions, and cheered. It was a great day.
My dad tells me it would be great for me to find a job in a field that interests me, is challenging, and that is readily available to me in multiple locations and in different types of roles. With chemical engineering, I've found a field that may check all of those boxes. I could work in research, medicine, the food industry, or other health related industries. . Being able to combine my love of math, science, and problem-solving all while helping others seems like a perfect career goal.
My vision is to help people heal quicker through more accurate and readily available testing and treatments. I believe God created us with a purpose and potential. I feel like it is my duty to use my intellectual abilities to help serve others. I will stand out by studying harder, showing up earlier, and learning from leaders in my field.
