During my internship at Bayshore Animal Clinic, I made a contribution to my community by helping care for animals and supporting their families through both routine and stressful moments. I worked closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants to make sure animals received the attention they needed. I helped with simple tasks like cleaning exam rooms, preparing supplies, comforting nervous pets, and communicating with pet owners about what to expect during appointments. Even though my responsibilities were basic compared to the veterinarians and technicians, I learned how important every role is in a veterinary practice. Every small task helped the team run more smoothly and allowed the doctors to focus more on diagnosing and treating animals. Being part of the process, even in a small way, showed me how a positive attitude, patience, and attention to detail can make a real difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them. This experience made me even more confident that I want to continue making an impact through a career in veterinary care.
I have decided to pursue a career as a veterinary assistant for several reasons. First, I have always loved animals and felt a strong connection to them. Since I was little, I have wanted to help animals feel safe, loved, and cared for. Working as a veterinary assistant would allow me to be hands-on with animals every day, whether it’s helping them through an illness, making them more comfortable at the vet, or assisting in preventive care that keeps them healthy. I want my career to involve doing something that truly matters, and caring for animals is something I am very passionate about.
Second, I enjoy being part of a team. During my internship, I saw how veterinary clinics depend on teamwork to succeed. Veterinary assistants play an important role by supporting both the veterinarians and technicians, making sure that the clinic runs efficiently, and that animals receive the best care possible. I love the idea of working closely with others who share the same mission and passion for animal health. Being reliable, hard-working, and positive are strengths I want to bring to a veterinary team.
Third, I am committed to growing and learning in the veterinary field. Becoming a veterinary assistant will allow me to build important skills, gain hands-on experience, and continue my education about animal health and behavior. I am excited about the chance to keep learning throughout my career, whether it’s through certifications, new techniques, or simply gaining more experience every day. Veterinary medicine is always changing, and I want to be someone who stays curious, passionate, and ready to learn.
Overall, my contribution through my internship has inspired me to keep serving my community through animal care. I know that becoming a veterinary assistant will give me the opportunity to work with animals, be a valuable part of a team, and keep learning and growing in a field that truly matters to me.
Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society Veterinary Technician Scholarship
WinnerDuring my internship at Bayshore Animal Clinic, I had the opportunity to contribute to my community in a way that felt deeply personal and meaningful. I worked closely with veterinarians and veterinary technicians, helping with basic treatments, caring for recovering animals, and offering support to pet owners during some of their most stressful moments. I learned how to gently handle scared or hurt animals, clean and prepare exam rooms, and assist with important tasks that made the clinic run smoothly and efficiently. Even though my role was small compared to the veterinarians and technicians, I realized that every part of the team mattered when it came to helping animals heal and making a difference. By comforting anxious pets, answering questions for worried owners, and doing everything I could to help, I was able to make a real difference in the lives of both animals and people in my community. This experience confirmed for me that my passion for animal care is something I want to turn into a lifelong career that will allow me to give back in meaningful ways. I have decided to pursue a career as a veterinary technician for three main reasons. First, I have always had a deep love for animals. Since I was a child, I have felt a natural bond with animals and have always wanted to help them feel safe, happy, and healthy. Becoming a veterinary technician would allow me to turn that passion into daily action, making sure pets receive the care, attention, and love they deserve. Second, I have a strong desire to help those who cannot speak for themselves. Animals rely on people to understand their needs, notice when something is wrong, and advocate for their well-being when they are vulnerable. I want to be the person who pays attention to the small signs and takes action to protect, heal, and comfort them. Third, I am committed to always learning and growing in my career. The veterinary field is constantly changing with new treatments, technologies, and methods of care that can save lives and improve quality of life. I am excited about the idea of continuing to learn throughout my career so that I can give animals the best possible care and help my team succeed. I also want to be a dependable team member who can support veterinarians, work with families, and help make a positive impact in my community every day. Being a veterinary technician would let me combine everything I care about into one meaningful, rewarding, and inspiring career.
