My name is Lily Shenkle and I am a high school senior preparing for my future college education and career! I have been attending Dubois Christian Schools since Kindergarten (13 years) and have been an active member of my school. During my time at DCS I played Soccer for 6 years, Basketball for 7 years, Track and Field for 3 years, and was a part of Choir for 6 years. I was captain of the soccer and basketball teams for my Junior and Senior Year. I was a Soccer All-Star my senior year, I received Most- Improved award in soccer and basketball and defensive MVP award in basketball twice. I have volunteered in many school events, including the DCS Auction, Craft Fair, and Elementary Sports Programs. I am very passionate about servant leadership and serving in my church is important to me. As a member of First Baptist Church of DuBois, and of Common Ground Youth Group. I have had the opportunity to participate in 5 separate mission trips to different parts of the world, 2 of which were outside of the country. I love music and serve my church by singing on the praise team, leading the worship team in youth group, and performing solo’s. I am also passionate about working with children and I love serving in my church nursery and helping as a crew leader in Vacation Bible School during the summer. Many of the mission trips I have been a part of have a strong element of children’s ministry, and this has grown my love and passion for showing God’s love to kids around the world! I am the oldest of 4 girls in my family and I have very strong family values. I am a natural leader, enjoy organization and caring for the people around me! My hobbies include sports, reading, hiking, and writing. I am excited to begin my education in nursing at Liberty University this fall (2024). Medicine and biology have always been fascinating topics to me and I am excited to learn more about them and use my knowledge to care for people and touch their lives in a positive way! Showing compassion and caring for people have always been strengths and passions of mine, and I hope to use those skills to both care for people in practical ways and encourage patients. This can often get neglected with busy schedules and lots of patients, but I hope to help each of my patients feel truly seen and cared for, as well as encourage the people that I work with. Theodore Roosevelt once said, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care." My goal is of course to be well-educated so that my patients feel comfortable with my knowledge. But it is also important to me that I communicate my care and concern so that patients feel comfortable in what is likely an uncomfortable situation. My ultimate goal is to bring God glory and do good for other people, and I hope to accomplish this within the field of nursing. Growing up in church and surrounded by a strong Christian community, the importance of God’s love in our lives and showing that love to other people has been deeply impressed on my values and heart. I am excited to see what God’s plan is for my life and my career, and my hope is that through nursing, I am able to be a reflection of his love to my patients and co-workers. Thank you for providing this scholarship opportunity, and for your consideration of my application!

After earning my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN), I hope to continue my education in a Nurse Anesthesia doctoral program to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). This program is extremely competitive and will require me to maintain a high GPA throughout my early years of college. I will also need at least two years of critical care experience before entering the program. Growing up in church and surrounded by a strong Christian community, the importance of God’s love in our lives and showing that love to other people has been deeply impressed on my values and heart. My ultimate goal is to bring God glory and do good for other people, and I hope to accomplish this within the field of nursing. This scholarship would help me greatly as I financially plan for the future. There are many new costs in the next phase of my education, that I would not be able to cover responsibly were it not for scholarships like this one. In addition to the cost of my undergraduate education, the doctoral program would be yet another financial struggle that this scholarship would help me prepare for. I am excited to see what God’s plan is for my life and my career, and my hope is that through nursing, I am able to be a reflection of his love to my patients and co-workers. Thank you for providing this scholarship opportunity, and for your consideration of my application!
