Sylvester Taylor "Invictus" Hospitality Scholarship
Growing up, my house was always filled with good food. Our family of four always sits down to dinner together, no matter what day of the week it is. The dinner table is not only where we eat, but where we catch each other up on our days, share stories and give advice. In addition to our daily family dinners, we always hosted dinners and parties at our house that revolved around food. From holiday-themed parties to our own original celebrations, our house is the place to be for certain times of the year. It became apparent to me that sharing good food and drink is a way for people to connect and enjoy each other's company.
My father is a self-taught, talented cook and he loves sharing his talents with others. I would see him get up early in the morning to prepare a big meal for guests. I would see the effort, care and love he puts into his food. I would see how happy he was to do it for others and how much everyone loved coming over. I want to do the same for other people by working in the hospitality business.
I would love to someday own a place where people can come and connect over great food and drinks. A place that people love to come to because it not only feeds their bodies but also feeds their souls. I have committed to Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI to major in Hospitality Management next year. I am looking forward to new experiences and acquiring skills and knowledge in the food and beverage industry. I am excited to learn what it takes to make it in the business. I also would love to learn how to become a Wine Sommelier. This scholarship would help me financially achieve my goal of acquiring a degree in Hospitality Management so that I can pursue my dream of opening a place and gaining valuable experience in food, beverage and hospitality.
