Hi, my name is Lilly Smith and I’m a senior at Kenner Discovery High School. I am involved with Boy Scout and have achieved the highest rank available “Eagle Scout”. To get Eagle Scout you have to work hard for a few years, show leadership in your troop and complete a service project that will benefit for community. I installed a flag retirement box and restriped the parking lot at VFW post 6640 located in Metairie Louisiana.

Bick First Generation Scholarship
My name is Lilly Smith, I am 17 years old and a senior at Kenner Discovery. I believe that I should be awarded this scholarship because I have worked hard throughout high school to keep my grades up and make my mom proud. My mom has had to support her four kids by herself for over six years. I have watched my mom work hard and see her hard times but always keep a smile for us. Seeing my mom work this hard has helped me become more grateful for what I have and receive. It has helped me understand more the importance of family. When my mom and dad separated, my mom was kind of left on her own, even though she struggled, she never showed it. As I grew up and started becoming a teenager, I started seeing more of the behind the scenes of what my mom goes through and the struggles of paying bills and having money. My mom has worked in the school system since 2018, she makes about twenty-five thousand dollars a year. My mom is also in school at Delgado to pursue a career in Law. I plan on attending Southeastern, and not being in debt from college would help me out so much to not to be stressed having to pay back loans. Being able to attend college with this scholarship will allow me to earn my bachelor's degree in BSN and go into the nursing program which I have become very passionate about. When my mother was in high school, she also wanted to be a nurse and still does, but she wasn’t able to succeed in the classes with my brother, she had him at 19. Knowing her story makes me want to pursue this career even more to make her proud. Being awarded this scholarship would help me pay for my school so much, I'm going for my bachelor's degree. Getting this money will help me afford to live away from home and not struggle. I will be living in a dorm because I can't drive one hour there and back everyday, since I don't have a car or license. Earning this scholarship will help me and my mother out so much, my mom doesn't make much and neither do I, so getting this scholarship will help me not have to pay for my college. Thank you for your consideration.

Aserina Hill Memorial Scholarship
My name is Lilly Smith, I am a senior at Kenner Discovery high school. I joined Boy Scouts of America in October 2022 and have worked hard to earn the highest rank achievable Eagle Scout earned on August 10, 2025. To earn Eagle you must be an active member in your troop for about two years. You have to complete a number of service hours, earn twenty-one merit badges, fourteen of which are Eagle required. Then when it is time to start your Eagle requirements you have to plan and execute a service project in which you lead. I chose for my project to install a flag retirement box and restripe the parking lot at VFW post 6640. I had to raise over $1,000 to be able to complete this project. For my fundraising I hosted a bake sale at Vintage Church selling baked goods for $1 each. I ended up raising just enough money to pay for the materials and food to feed my helpers.
Throughout scouting I have had many opportunities for volunteering. Some consist of, serving as staff for cub scout camps, selling concessions for activities, handing water to runners during races, helping other scouts Eagle projects, doing flag services at museums, and many more. I also helped out at my school, just this summer me and a few others helped set up new computers for the incoming freshman, during open house, working fall fest, and more. I am also a part of the NHS, in which we complete four service hours, three fundraising hours, and eight tutoring hours.
After graduating from Kenner Discovery I plan on attending Southeastern Louisiana University to earn my bachelor degree and pursue a career in nursing. I plan on finishing my nursing degree and working at Turo as a labor and delivery nurse. I work at Luv2Play, a children's indoor playground and have been with them since May 13, 2023 at the end of my freshman year and am continuing my time with them going into my senior year. I use customer service when talking to customers and play when being around kids. I have always loved working with kids, when I was younger I used to go to church services every sunday and volunteer in the little kid daycare.
If I were to start my own charity, my mission would be to raise money every month to give towards college students and their families to help support their needs. My volunteers would serve bake sales hosted by all of the team, car washes, drive in movies, and garage sales with items donated by anyone. We would host one event per weekend which would allow us time to prepare for a successful event and raise enough money to give to others.
Marcia Bick Scholarship
My name is Lilly Smith, I am 17 years old and a senior at Kenner Discovery. I believe that I should be awarded this scholarship because I have worked hard throughout high school to keep my grades up and make my mom proud. My mom only makes $25,000 a year to support four humans living with her. Being awarded this scholarship would help me pay for my schooling so much, in total for me to go to my school will cost me about $10,000 per semester, and I'm going for my bachelor's degree.
Motivated and high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds deserve opportunities such as this one because we work so hard to keep up with grades and school work to make our parents proud. Earning this scholarship can help students excel in their school with less pressure and worry about how they will afford this without being in a lot of debt.
Having a single mom that works hard to provide for her kids shows me that I can do anything I put my mind to, especially doing good in school. I have learned how to speak up for myself when needed. Earning this scholarship will help me and my mother out so much, my mom doesn't make much and neither do I, so getting this scholarship will help me not have to pay for my college. I work at Luv2Play, I use customer service when talking and being around kids. I plan on attending Southeastern and not being in debt from college would help me out to not be stressed having to pay back loans. Being able to attend college with this scholarship will allow me to earn my bachelor's degree in BSN and go into the nursing program which I have become very passionate about. I have always loved working with people and communicating with others.
