I am a passionate first generation college student looking to explore mutualism, symbiosis, and other community driven interactions in relation to evolution. My goal is to participate in research that investigates the importance of the varying networks of community in ecological systems in relation to climate change. As I pursue higher education, I aim to use my knowledge and position to make science more accessible. I'm inspired by citizen science projects that bridge the gap between academia and the general public by creating a community for meaningful scientific involvement regardless of formal education. I am generally interested in molecular biology and genetics, but specific areas that pique my interest are evolutionary genetics, systems biology, and microbiology. I'm interested in the intersection between computer science and biology, and have pursued education in the statistical analysis coding language R. I also work in a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) lab on my college campus. In order to attend college I had to take out a substantial private loan and government loans, totaling around $40,000. I've decided to be an active bold.org user to garner support in any way that I can! I hope to pursue a PhD in biology and make my family proud. A recent opportunity I am excited about is researching the acoustic ecology of bats in Copenhagen, Denmark with the DIS study abroad program this coming semester! Funding would be incredibly helpful in this endeavor.
