My goal is to pursue a career in nursing because I have always wanted to help others during difficult times. Over the years, I realized that I am most interested in careers where I can support people both physically and emotionally. I am especially interested in becoming a travel nurse because it would allow me to work in different environments, meet new people, and provide care wherever I am needed most.
Participating in a medical practicum helped confirm that healthcare is the right path for me. During one of my observation days, I unexpectedly passed out while talking with a nurse and patient. Even though nothing major was happening medically at the time, the healthcare staff immediately stepped in to help me, making sure I was okay and helping me feel calm and supported. That experience stayed with me because it showed me how important compassion and patient care are in healthcare settings.
Throughout my practicum experience, I also observed healthcare professionals interacting with patients and saw how important emotional support can be alongside medical care. I especially noticed how nurses took time to comfort patients who were nervous, overwhelmed, or uncertain, even during busy moments. Watching those interactions showed me that healthcare is not only about treatment, but also about kindness, patience, and compassion.
Throughout high school, I have balanced AP coursework, varsity soccer, club soccer, work, and extracurricular activities while remaining focused on my goals. Playing soccer taught me resilience, teamwork, discipline, and how to continue improving even after setbacks. There were times when I doubted myself, but those experiences pushed me to work harder and become more confident in my abilities. Being involved in sports also taught me how important it is to support the people around you and work together through challenges.
Outside of athletics, I have also enjoyed giving back to younger students through Building Bearcats, where I participated in elementary school visits, reading activities, skits, and motivational events before major testing. I enjoyed being someone younger students could look up to and encourage. Those experiences helped me realize how much I value helping others feel supported and confident.
As I continue my education, I hope to grow both personally and professionally while working toward a career in healthcare. I want to use the knowledge and skills I gain to make a positive impact in the lives of others and continue giving back to my community. I know pursuing a career in nursing will require hard work and dedication, but I am excited for the opportunity to continue learning and helping others through healthcare.
