I was born in Cartagena Colombia, but my parents are Cuban. After moving to the small, rural town of Waynesboro, Georgia. I see children who have lived their whole lives in Hispanic families and then immediately thrown into a school where there is no one like them. Having educators with more diverse backgrounds is important because it provides all students with an opportunity to feel represented in their academic environment. I carry so much love and passion to help my fellow Hispanic/ Latinx community because I recognize how hardworking, compassionate, energetic, vigorous, and loving they are. Whether it’s adjusting to a new country, or fighting racial injustice while dealing with emotional instability. I have been there. I acknowledge their struggles and feel their pain. I want to travel and learn different ways to teach. Being able to afford college will open the door to my career. I can influence the lives of younger generations, by showing them the immense power they hold in being a Hispanic/Latinx child living in America, I want to help kids reach their full potential, to help them learn how to properly speak up about issues, how to stand up for their rights, and how to spread kindness even when they’re in distress. I want to demonstrate to the world that we the children are the future, and if the future is going to be in my hands, I’ll make sure to not only educate them academically, but also teach them how to be rigorous, brave, loving, and to not be afraid to correct someone when it comes to their identity. For change will never come, if nothing is ever changed.
