Growing up as the first-born son of a police officer and a nurse, I was surrounded by examples of selflessness, empathy, and humility, which deeply influenced my worldview. These values have driven me to take on leadership roles in various organizations, including serving as Captain of North Allegheny TigerTHON, where I help lead fundraising efforts for children battling cancer. My involvement in NA Stand Together, Best Buddies, and the Wellness Club reflects my commitment to promoting mental health, inclusion, and well-being within my school community. I am excited to continue my journey at John Carroll University, where I will be playing football and majoring in Economics and Finance. I plan to pursue a career in economics and business, using my knowledge to improve access to resources and create opportunities for others. My goal is to empower communities and help individuals build financial security. I am a great candidate because of my dedication to service and leadership, as well as my strong work ethic. As a Varsity Football Team Captain and a National Honor Society member with a strong GPA, I have developed a well-built sense of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. From the moment I first put on a helmet and stepped onto the football field, I understood that being a student-athlete was about more than just the game. It was about discipline, resilience, and leadership, qualities that have shaped not only my success in sports but also my vision for the future. My experience as a football player, particularly as a running back and linebacker for North Allegheny’s varsity team, has taught me lessons that extend far beyond the field. The ability to push through adversity, to lead by example, and to balance rigorous academic and athletic commitments has prepared me for my next chapter: playing college football at John Carroll University while majoring in Economics and Finance. Football has been central to my personal growth. As a three-year starter and team captain, I have learned how to handle pressure, make quick decisions, and rally a team toward a common goal. These same skills translate directly into my career aspirations. My love for economics and finance stems from a fascination with how society distributes resources, goods, and services, something I first became curious about while working in the food and hospitality industry. Whether as a cashier at T-Bones Marketplace or a laborer at Laterra Builders, I saw firsthand the impact of economic trends on businesses and individuals alike. I plan to apply my leadership skills and competitive mindset to a career in business, where I can use my knowledge to make a tangible impact. While football has been a defining part of my identity, it does not fully encapsulate who I am. Service has always been a major part of my life, influenced by my upbringing as the son of a police officer and a nurse. Watching my parents dedicate themselves to helping others, I developed a strong sense of empathy and a commitment to giving back. This passion led me to become deeply involved in North Allegheny TigerTHON, where I have served as a captain for three years, overseeing team membership and fundraising efforts to support children battling cancer. Through TigerTHON and other organizations like NA Stand Together and the NA Wellness Club, I have worked to foster a sense of community and support for those in need, reinforcing my belief that success is not just measured by personal achievements but by the impact we have on others. Ultimately, being a student-athlete has shaped me into a disciplined, driven individual who thrives in high-pressure situations. Football has instilled in me a relentless work ethic, but my experiences outside of sports have shown me the importance of service, leadership, and continuous learning. As I take the next step at John Carroll University, I am excited to apply these lessons both on and off the field, using my education and experiences to build a future where I can make a lasting impact in the world of business and beyond.

One issue I’ve recognized in my community is the growing need for mental health awareness and support among students. While North Allegheny is known for its academic and extracurricular excellence, the pressure to excel often weighs heavily on students, leaving little room to prioritize mental well-being. I’ve witnessed classmates struggle silently, unsure where to turn or how to express their needs. Recognizing this gap, I took action as a member of the NA Wellness Club and NA Stand Together. What motivated me to tackle this issue was the story of a close friend who struggled with anxiety during their senior year. Their experience illuminated the urgency of creating a space where students could find support and feel less alone. As a club member, I’ve worked to organize initiatives that spark conversations about mental health. One of our most impactful projects was hosting workshops during Mental Health Awareness Month, where we brought in speakers, created resources, and led peer discussions to break the stigma around mental health challenges. Through these efforts, I’ve seen a shift in how mental health is perceived at my school. More students are opening up, reaching out for help, and recognizing the importance of balance. However, there’s still work to do. I hope to expand these efforts by establishing a mentorship program that pairs upperclassmen with younger students, fostering connections and encouraging ongoing dialogue about mental health. Additionally, I’d like to collaborate with local organizations to bring more resources to our community, such as training for teachers to recognize signs of mental health struggles and support students effectively. Addressing mental health isn’t just a project, it’s a commitment to helping others feel seen, heard, and valued. By continuing to build this foundation of awareness and support, I hope to leave a lasting impact that benefits my peers and future students alike.

One of the most transformative experiences of my athletic career occurred during my junior year when I was recovering from a severe shoulder injury. The injury took a toll on me physically, but more so mentally. I doubted my ability to return to the field, and the frustration of watching my teammates play while I was sidelined made me question my role as a leader. I wasn’t sure I’d ever contribute at the same level again. That’s when Coach Thompson stepped in. He recognized my struggles, not just with the physical recovery, but with the mental battle I was facing. One day after practice, he pulled me aside and shared his own injury experiences. He explained that recovery wasn’t just about healing the body, it was about rebuilding the mind and supporting in anyway I can. His words struck a chord. He told me that recovery was a journey, one step at a time, and to trust the process and focus on what I could control. What made Coach Thompson’s approach so impactful wasn’t just his advice, but it was how he lived it. He didn’t merely tell me to stay positive; he showed me how. Together, we developed a recovery plan that pushed me mentally and physically, keeping me engaged even when progress seemed slow. It wasn’t just about regaining strength; it was about developing resilience. His leadership gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward, teaching me that how I handled the setback would define me. Coach Thompson also helped me understand that leadership isn’t solely about performance—it’s about presence. Even though I couldn’t contribute on the field, I could still be a vital part of the team. He encouraged me to take on a mentorship role with younger players, offering guidance and support during their own challenges. I learned that leadership is about showing up, being present, and lifting others, regardless of your situation. Coach Thompson’s influence extended beyond football. His lessons on perseverance, empathy, and mental toughness became values I carry with me every day. They’ve made me a stronger athlete and, more importantly, a better person. Whether it’s staying focused on schoolwork, supporting teammates, or volunteering in my community, I apply these lessons to overcome challenges and help others do the same. I’ve learned that resilience and leadership are key to pushing through adversity. My experience with Coach Thompson also shaped how I approach service. Whether volunteering at youth clinics, helping with charity events, or supporting teammates, I’ve learned that service isn’t just about doing things for others, it’s about building relationships and empowering people. I find fulfillment in helping others unlock their potential, both on and off the field. As I look ahead to continuing my football journey at the collegiate level, I plan to carry these lessons with me. This scholarship would give me the opportunity to grow as both a player and a person. I have the drive, resilience, and leadership to contribute meaningfully to a college team, and I would be honored to carry forward the values Coach Thompson instilled in me. In everything I do, I strive to embody perseverance, leadership, and a mindset of growth. These values have shaped who I am today, and they will continue to guide me through every challenge and opportunity. This scholarship is more than an opportunity to continue my football career, it’s a chance to prove that I can overcome obstacles, lift others up, and become the best version of myself.

Football has been more than just a passion for me. it’s been a driving force in shaping who I am today. As a team captain, I’ve learned what it truly means to lead, to push others to their limits while constantly striving for my own growth. But this journey hasn’t been easy. Injuries have challenged me, tested my resolve, and forced me to find strength in places I didn’t know I had. Over the years, I’ve battled through multiple injuries, with the most significant being a shoulder injury followed by a torn ACL. These setbacks were devastating, not only physically but emotionally as well. Each injury stole a piece of my confidence and made me question whether I’d ever return to the player I was. But instead of letting these injuries define me, I decided to turn them into opportunities for growth. I embraced the rehabilitation process, learning how to be patient and trust in my body’s ability to heal. I learned that resilience is built through setbacks, not despite them. And most importantly, I never gave up on my dream of playing the game I love. Unfortunately, my senior season was taken from me when the ACL tear occurred just as I was hitting my stride. Losing that season was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced, but it’s also where I discovered the true meaning of resilience. I stayed committed to my recovery, and although I couldn’t contribute on the field, I took on a different role—leading off the field. I supported my teammates, kept their spirits high, and helped drive the team forward. I learned that being a captain isn’t just about leading when the wins come easily; it’s about stepping up when times are tough, showing your team that no matter the obstacles, we fight through them together. Beyond football, I’ve made service a priority in my life. I believe leadership is about more than just motivating teammates; it’s about serving the community. I’ve volunteered at local events, organized youth sports clinics, and helped with charity fundraisers. Each experience has reinforced the values I learned on the field—discipline, humility, and the importance of giving back. These opportunities have strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my commitment to making a positive impact on others, whether through football or beyond. I plan to continue playing football at the collegiate level, bringing everything I’ve learned--resilience, leadership, and discipline into a new chapter of my life. This scholarship is an opportunity to show that setbacks do not define us; what matters is how we rise from them. I will continue to fight through challenges, grow, and contribute to a team that values both the game and the lessons it teaches. With the unwavering love I have for football, I am ready to face whatever comes next.
