Bio

Hi, my name is Lia. I am a biomedical science major on the Pre-PA track, with a triple minor in Biology, Chemistry, and Immunology and Microbiology at Quinnipiac University. I have known from a young age that I wanted to be in the medical field because I grew up with Epilepsy. When I was in the hospital the compassion of the doctors, nurses, and PAs had such a big impact on me, and I knew I wanted to have that same positive impact on others. I am proud to say I have been on Quinnipiac's Dean's list every semester (GPA >3.5) and have been presented with Dean's list with honors twice (GPA = 4.0). To start my path in the medical field I became an Emergency Medical Technician and began working at Quinnipiac University Student EMS my sophomore year. Now going into my junior year I am now the Training Officer of the organization. I also work as a Patient Care Technician at Middlesex Hospital. As a PCT, I provide direct patient care in areas such as daily care and taking vitals. Since freshman year I have been a part of the Quinnipiac Kickline and in my free time, I tap dance on my own. Tap has always been my favorite style of dance. Before college, I was on a semi-professional tap team and performed tap solos at competitions. It has always been a way to get away from stress and will continue to be part of my life. One accomplishment I am proud of is I am the Distinguished Young Women of Connecticut for 2021. This title not only demonstrates my hard work in academics but what each title holder believes in and how they express themselves.

My goal for the future is to get accepted to Physicians Assistant School and become a PA in labor and delivery. I knew from a young age that I wanted to help people for a living because so many people had helped me when I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. To reach these goals, I plan to continue to work hard and focus on my classes at school. I put effort into my school work so it is completed to the best of my ability. Besides working hard in school, I have enrolled in an Emergency Medical Technician course this summer. By passing this course, I will receive my EMT license and will be able to work as an EMT. This is an important step in my plan to reach my goals because working as an EMT will help me gain patient care hours which are needed for PA school. Collecting these hours early on is important because several hours are necessary to get into PA school. To reach my goal of getting accepted into PA school, I have joined the Pre-PA Club at my school. In this club, students get advice for applying to PA school; they learn about the job and lifestyle of Physician Assistants, and they get to chat and ask questions to current Physical Assistants. This club has helped strengthen my understanding of the different aspects of a Physician Assistant and how to improve my application for PA school.
