I was amazed by the cutting-edge technology that I got to see in the big screen as a child. They did not just entertain me — they sparked my curiosity. What if it were possible? What if I could make it happen? It was curiosity that fueled my drive for science and engineering and planted in me a dream: to build things that would amaze the world, just like I had been amazed. Raised in a home of limited means, where all were directed towards arts careers due to cost, I forged the other path. Engineering never was the easy choice; it was the bold one. My parents sacrificed thousands of things to make my dream a reality, and I bear that weight in terrific respect and determination. My early projects were DIY experiments, building toy cars and bikes with DC motors, and even constructing a hydraulic system using syringes. Each miniature construct became a driving force for me. I did not merely want to create gadgets; I wanted to impact. As I grew up, my interest in robotics and AI became more specific, but the last year or so has made me see something even more firmly: the future of engineering is interdisciplinary. The most amazing advances will be in the hands of individuals who can bring together physics, design, computation, and imagination in one. That realization has been made more firm through my research experience. I've worked with my instructors on the Michelson interferometer, using it to measure the wavelength of a laser. I learned about thermal expansion's effects on mirrors, and calculated the refractive index of glass blocks. These experiments taught me more than just scientific principles — they taught me the patience, precision, and imagination required to explore the unknown. They convinced me that I could be a part of real scientific progress. But I want to take it still higher. My dream is to develop a simulation tool which can turn imagination into visible, interactive models — a platform where ideas can become tangible in a flash of time. I feel that engineering can make the mind speak what words are incapable of. I do not wish to be part of the technology of the future — I wish to create it. I wish to be recognized as a force that stretched the boundaries of what is possible. A shift in the way the world views engineering — not a science of limits, but of limitless opportunity.

I am an international student from Cameroon, a country rich in culture and history but often beset by economic and political challenges. My parents are civil servants, earning less than $10,000 a year, a sum that must stretch to support our family of nine children. To supplement their income, my father runs a bar, working tirelessly to provide for us. Despite our financial hardships, my parents have always prioritized education, seeing it as a beacon of hope for a better future. Recognizing my academic potential through my consistently good grades, my father made the monumental decision to send me abroad for my education. This was not a decision made lightly; it required taking out loans and making significant personal sacrifices. Their unwavering belief in my potential and their determination to provide me with opportunities they never had have been the driving forces behind my pursuit of higher education in the United States. The decision to study in the US was inspired by the desire for more comprehensive education and exposure to practical, hands-on learning experiences. The educational system in the US is renowned for its emphasis on innovation, research, and real-world applications, aspects that are limited in Cameroon. Studying here will equip me with advanced skills and knowledge, preparing me to contribute meaningfully to my field and, ultimately, to the development of my home country. My journey has been fraught with challenges. The process of applying to schools in the US was complex and often overwhelming, especially navigating the intricacies of the visa process. These experiences required immense patience and resilience, teaching me that perseverance is essential for achieving one's goals. The difficulties did not end upon my arrival in the US. I faced a significant language barrier, which made daily interactions and academic pursuits challenging. However, through consistent effort and determination, I am gradually overcoming this obstacle, improving my language skills, and becoming more comfortable in my new environment. Throughout this journey, my father's sacrifices have been a constant source of inspiration. His dedication to our family and his willingness to go to great lengths to support my education, despite our financial constraints, have instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility and motivation. His actions have taught me the values of hard work, resilience, and the importance of education as a tool for empowerment and change. One person who has inspired me profoundly is my father. His dedication to our family and his willingness to go above and beyond to support my education despite our financial constraints have been a constant source of motivation. His sacrifices and unwavering belief in my potential drive me to strive for excellence and make the most of the opportunities I have been given. After graduation, my goal is to secure a job in the automotive industry. I am particularly interested in car simulation technology, as I believe it holds significant potential for innovation and improvement in vehicle design and safety. By contributing to advancements in this field, I hope to make a positive impact and honor the sacrifices my parents have made for my education. In conclusion, my background and the challenges I have faced have shaped my ambitions and aspirations. The support and sacrifices of my parents, particularly my father's, have inspired me to pursue higher education in the United States and strive for success. Through perseverance and dedication, I am determined to overcome obstacles and achieve my goals, ultimately making a meaningful contribution to my chosen field and giving back to my family and community.

Reflecting on the sacrifices made by my parents to support my educational journey, I am filled with immense gratitude and determination. I am an international student from Cameroon, and despite the significant impact of the anglophone crisis on our family, my parents made the remarkable decision to send me abroad for my studies. With nine children to care for, they took out loans and made numerous sacrifices to ensure I could receive a quality education. These sacrifices have profoundly shaped my ambitions and aspirations. Knowing the lengths to which my parents have gone to support me fuels my drive to succeed. Their unwavering support and belief in my potential have instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and the urge to make them proud. Their actions have taught me that even in times of adversity, one must stand strong and persevere. The values my parents have instilled in me are resilience, determination, and the importance of education. They have shown me that no matter the challenges, staying committed to one's goals is essential. Their financial struggles, exacerbated by the need to take out loans for my education, have highlighted the importance of hard work and the sacrifices necessary for long-term success. My primary goal is to become a mechanical engineer and make a significant impact in the automotive industry, particularly in the area of car simulation. I believe that advancements in simulation technology can revolutionize how new cars are designed and tested, leading to more efficient and innovative vehicle production. To pay forward my parents' sacrifices, I have devised a detailed plan for my academic and professional journey. First and foremost, I am committed to excelling in my studies at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Achieving high academic performance, as reflected in my current GPA of 3.85, will not only honor their sacrifices but also position me for a successful career. Upon graduation, I aim to secure a position in a leading automotive company where I can contribute to advancements in car simulation technology. My long-term goal is to develop more accurate and efficient simulation tools that will aid in the design and testing of safer, more reliable vehicles. By doing so, I hope to contribute to the industry's growth and innovation, reflecting the resilience and determination my parents have instilled in me. Additionally, I plan to engage in mentorship programs to support other students from underprivileged backgrounds. Having navigated the challenging path of studying abroad, I understand the importance of guidance and support. By sharing my experiences and knowledge, I hope to help others achieve their educational and professional goals, paying forward the support I have received. In summary, the sacrifices made by my parents have been a driving force in shaping my ambitions and aspirations. Their resilience and determination have taught me invaluable lessons that I carry with me every day. Through my academic pursuits and future endeavors, I am committed to honoring their sacrifices by excelling in my field and supporting others on their educational journeys.
