Hello! My name is Leandra Austin. I was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina, and graduated with honors from Wilson High School, maintaining a GPA of 3.8. Throughout my high school years, I worked hard to excel academically while participating in various extracurricular activities that helped shape my leadership and time management skills. After high school, I continued my education at Florence-Darlington Technical College, where I graduated in 2009 with a degree in Business Administration. This experience provided me with valuable skills and knowledge, but my passion for healthcare and helping others has inspired me to return to school to pursue a nursing degree.
Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, I am unable to access traditional financial aid or student loans. This has made it extremely challenging to continue my education, but I am determined to overcome these obstacles. My goal is to become a registered nurse, a career where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I am seeking scholarship assistance to help fund my education so that I can achieve my dream of becoming a nurse and contribute to my community in a meaningful way.

Freddie L Brown Sr. Scholarship
I've always had a passion for learning about my family's history and getting to know my family on my father's and mother's sides. Lately, I have been back and forth on ancestry.com because my oldest half-brother gave me a ancestry DNA test for Christmas. I gave him the side eye because why do I need a DNA test?
When I was a kid, my middle sister always told me my mom and dad found me in the dumpster. I know, I know. It was a terrible thing for her to tell me! I would run and cry to my parents. They would scold her for saying such bad things to me. When we grew up, she said that because she didn't get to stay my parent's baby for long. Just wow! Girl, we are four years apart! Grow up, honey!
So, I turned in my ancestry DNA test and received my results. I decided to play a trick on my mom. I told her that the test said she was not my biological mother. My mom fussed and fussed about that for days. She said, Well, I know I had a little baldheaded baby. I know you are mine. That was the funniest thing ever because she started thinking that they switched me at birth. I finally decided to say that it was a joke! I might have run my mom's blood pressure up that day! Yikes!
So fast forward to a week later. I found someone still living and tried to figure out how she was our relative and why she had told a lie about her age for so many years. As I dug deeper into ancestry life, I discovered more crazy news about another family member. I aggravated my mom until I got the correct information. I picked at that relative so much until I went to sleep one night and had sleep paralysis.
Some may have experienced this. I had a crazy dream that someone was chasing me, and then I ended up in my bed, but I could not talk or move. It felt like someone was crawling on my bed as I lay there! When I could finally move, I said a few prayers. I called my mom just for her to say that is what you get, girl! My mom thought that was so funny! She also said that I was bothering my ancestors. Then she had a nerve to say to me, "They were coming to get you because you talked about them!" I vowed to my mom never to pick at her or them again! She said that should teach you. I have not logged on to ancestry.com in a while now! The moral of this story is don't pick at your parents and leave your ancestors where they are! The joke was on me.
Hicks Scholarship Award
Life has a way of shaping us through our many experiences, and for me, my journey has been deeply impacted by the loss of my father to cancer. My name is Leandra Austin, and I am a single mother of two. I am a strong, resilient woman who has faced adversity and continues to push forward with determination and purpose. I have dedicated my life to caring for others, whether as a dialysis administrative assistant since 2018, through my holistic business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, or my journey to become a nurse. My love for helping people is what drives me, and my father’s battle with cancer is the reason I chose to pursue a nursing career.
In 2003, my world changed forever when my father was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. I will never forget the moment the doctor spoke those words: “Mr. Brown, you have stage 3 lung cancer.” It felt like my soul had been pierced with a spear. I was only 15 years old when he was diagnosed, sitting in the backseat as my parents drove home, and tears were running down my face. I was a daddy’s girl, the youngest of six siblings, and my father’s little “Bear.” He was my protector, my teacher, and my role model. The man who taught me to ride a bike, left money under my pillow when I lost my first tooth, and always reminded me that my "black was beautiful."
Watching his decline was devastating. I saw my strong, loving father turn into someone who could no longer walk, talk, or care for himself. I helped bathe him, feed him, and comfort him, but deep down, I felt so helpless. The pain of watching him suffer, the sleepless nights, and the heartbreak of losing him at the age of 16 changed me forever. I could barely eat and wondered how I could go on without him.
As a child, I dreamed of working in the medical field. I initially wanted to become a pediatrician, but as I got older and experienced firsthand what it was like to care for a loved one, I realized that nursing was where I wanted to be. My father’s battle with cancer was painful to go through, but it ignited an even deeper passion in me to help those who are sick and vulnerable.
This passion has extended beyond traditional medicine. In addition to working in dialysis care, I started my holistic business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, which focuses on herbal remedies, natural body care, and hair care. I want to combine my nursing degree with holistic care to offer a well-rounded approach to health and healing.
My father’s passing left a hole in my heart, but it also gave me purpose. I am dedicated to making a difference in people's lives, just as I did for my father in his final days. Nursing is a chance to provide care, comfort, and compassion to those who most need it.
I want to show my children that we must keep pushing forward even when it gets tough. I want them to be proud of the woman I am becoming and understand that we can turn pain into purpose. This scholarship would be a blessing, allowing me to complete my nursing education and continue my journey of helping others, just as I always dreamed.
Though my father is no longer here, his love and strength continue to guide me. His battle with cancer shaped me into the woman I am today—one who is ready to heal, uplift, and serve her community.
Jill S. Tolley Scholarship
I am uniquely deserving of this award because my journey has been built on perseverance, sacrifice, and an unbreakable commitment to my family. As a single parent, I have taken on the roles of being both parents to my children, providing them with love, guidance, and support despite my many challenges. Raising my children alone was not an easy path, but it was a choice I made to protect them and show them their worth. I endured an abusive relationship, but instead of staying in a harmful situation, I chose to walk away. I knew that remaining in that environment would only teach my children that it was acceptable to suffer in silence. Instead, I chose strength—I chose them.
I have sacrificed so much. I've often put my dreams on hold to make sure that my children had everything they needed. I worked long hours, faced financial struggles, and went without often, so they never had to. But through it all, I never lost sight of my goal—to create a better future for them and myself. I believe that the greatest lesson I can teach my children is that hardship does not define you; it is how you rise from it that matters.
My "why" for pursuing higher education is deeply rooted in this belief. I am passionate about becoming a nurse because helping others is not just something I want to do—it is who I am. I find joy in caring for people, supporting them through their most challenging times, and trying to make a difference in their lives. Whether it is physically or emotionally. Every since I was young, I learned that nursing was my calling.
But beyond my passion for nursing, my greatest "why" is my children. I want them to see how the determination, hard work, and resilience you have can overcome obstacles. I want to be a living example that no matter how often life knocks you down, you can always rise again. I want them to be proud of me—not just for what I achieve, but for the values I demonstrate along the way: strength, courage, and compassion.
This award would help me continue my education and lighten the financial burden I carry as a single parent. It would bless my family and bring me one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse. With this opportunity, I will not only change my life, but I will also continue to inspire my children and make a lasting impact on my community through my future career in nursing.
Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Build Together" Scholarship
Building a legacy is more than just creating something for today; it is about leaving something meaningful for the future. That legacy is my business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, where I combine my passion for holistic care with my future nursing degree. My goal is to merge natural remedies with modern healthcare, offering my community a balanced approach to wellness. I want to teach people the importance of taking care of their mental, physical, and spiritual health, all while showing them that natural remedies can work alongside traditional medicine.
This business is more than just a source of income; it is my path to freedom, growth, and security. I come from a background where living paycheck to paycheck was a reality, but I refuse to let that cycle define my future. I am determined to push harder, break barriers, and rise above financial struggles. My business is a way to provide for my family today and for generations to come. It is about longevity and breaking the cycle of poverty. I dream of a day when my business soars beyond my imagination, creating opportunities for me and others in my community.
More importantly, I am building this legacy for my children, who are my 18-year-old son and my 13-year-old daughter. If anything ever happens to me, I want them to have something they can carry forward with pride. I am raising them not only to be successful but also to be kind, strong, and resilient individuals. I teach them to pray through the storms and believe that brighter days will come. I hope they will look back and be proud of the foundation I laid for them.
However, my impact is not limited to my family. I want to uplift my community by sharing my knowledge and passion for holistic health. Many people in low-income communities do not have access to proper healthcare or wellness education. By providing herbal products and educational resources, I can empower people to take control of their health naturally. I want to hold workshops, educate families, and inspire healthier lifestyles. If even one person can say, “She changed my life,” I know my journey was worth it.
Ultimately, I am building more than just a business; I am building a legacy of healing, hope, and empowerment. I am building a future where financial freedom, health, and community impact will come together. I can create something that lasts far beyond my lifetime through hard work, passion, and faith.
Kumar Family Scholarship
My name is Leandra Austin, and I am a 37-year-old mother of two wonderful children. I have an 18-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter. I am pursuing my nursing degree at Galen College of Nursing, a journey I have been waiting for my whole life. My passion for healthcare stems from my lifelong desire to help others and provide compassionate care to those in need. I have worked in the medical field since I was 20 years old. I am currently a dialysis administrative assistant for over 6 years. However, my ultimate goal has always been to become a nurse.
I have encountered numerous obstacles that have delayed my nursing education throughout my life. After I graduated in 2009 with my business administration degree, each time I attempted to return to school for nursing, life presented unexpected challenges that forced me to put my dreams on hold. Despite these setbacks, I have remained committed to achieving my goal. My children and my mother have been my most significant sources of motivation, and I want to make them proud by finally earning my nursing degree.
This scholarship would be a tremendous help in allowing me to complete my education. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am no longer eligible for financial aid, and my student loans have reached their limit. The financial strain of tuition has become overwhelming, and while I am determined to finish school, the lack of funding is a major barrier. My son has even offered to help me save money from his job to contribute to my education, but I do not want him to carry that burden. Receiving this scholarship would alleviate the financial stress and enable me to focus entirely on my studies without worrying about how to afford my tuition.
My dedication to nursing goes far past my personal aspirations. I have always had a great love for helping people, and becoming a nurse will allow me to make a meaningful difference in my patients' lives. My experience working in the dialysis field has given me firsthand insight into the impact that compassionate healthcare professionals can have on patients and their families. I want to be one of those nurses who brings comfort, support, and excellent care to those in need.
In addition to my professional goals, I want to improve my small business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, by using my nursing degree. I strongly believe in holistic healing and combining natural remedies with modern medicine. Through a balanced approach to healthcare, I aim to educate and help others achieve overall well-being by integrating my experience in herbal medicine with my nursing background.
Being awarded this scholarship is not just about monetary support but an opportunity to achieve a dream that has been years in the making. It's an opportunity for me to lead by example, demonstrating to my kids that determination and strength can overcome any challenge. I can finish my nursing degree, continue to provide for my family, and—most importantly—make a significant change to the healthcare industry if I am granted this scholarship. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to apply, and I hope to receive the support that will help me accomplish my lifelong goal.
Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Scholarship
I started my small business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, in 2022, driven by my desire for natural healing and my personal experiences with recurring illnesses. My journey into herbalism began in the winter of 2016, when I constantly battled the flu, along with my children. Frequent doctor visits provided little relief, and I found myself searching for alternative solutions.
One day, I met a woman at Lowe’s who was selling elderberry syrup. I was sick at the time, and I decided to try it. The results were astounding! I regularly purchased elderberry syrup from her until she moved away, leaving me with no choice but to learn how to make it myself. That marked the beginning of my deep dive into herbal remedies.
Determined to find natural solutions to support my family’s health, I began researching and experimenting with different kinds of herbs. Over time, I expanded my knowledge and started making other herbal remedies that targeted different ailments. By 2020, I had broadened my creations to include body care products, hair care products, and herbal supplements. Seeing these products' positive effects on my family and friends, I felt a calling to share my knowledge and products with a broader audience.
In 2022, I took the leap of faith and officially launched my business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products. It was one of the happiest moments of my life because I was finally doing something I was genuinely passionate about. I realized that many people, like myself and my children, suffered from allergies and weak immune systems. Through my business, I wanted to offer them a natural way to heal and maintain their well-being.
My business is still tiny, but I have big dreams. I aspire to grow The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products into a well-known brand that inspires people to embrace a healthier and more natural lifestyle using herbs and natural products. I want to reach as many people as possible and educate them about the power of herbal medicine.
My greatest inspiration comes from my children and family, who have believed in me from the start. Their encouragement and trust in my abilities have pushed me to keep going, even when challenges arise. Now, I am fortunate to have friends and even strangers who believe in my mission and my ability to help others. This support fuels my dream and strengthens my commitment to my business.
In the future, I plan to merge my herbal business with my future nursing license to create a holistic approach to healthcare. Combining herbal remedies with medical knowledge, I aim to change the world one herb at a time. I want to bridge the gap between natural and conventional medicine, offering people well-rounded healthcare options that support their overall well-being.
My father also played a significant role in shaping my path. Though he is no longer here, he always tried to heal himself using natural remedies. I wish he could see me now, learning and growing in herbal medicine. His influence remains a driving force behind my dedication to natural healing. He would be so proud of me.
Ultimately, my goal is to build a business that provides high-quality herbal products and educates and empowers people to take control of their health naturally. I want The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products to be more than just a business; it should be a movement that inspires people to live healthier, more balanced lives. I know that I can turn this dream into a reality with perseverance, passion, and the support of my family and community.
Starting this business was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am excited about the future. I look forward to seeing The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products flourish, helping people, and making a lasting impact in the world of herbal medicine.
Jeune-Mondestin Scholarship
I am a 37-year-old mother of two, a full-time student pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing, and a dedicated professional working full-time as a dialysis administrative assistant. In addition to my job and studies, I also run a small business where I create health supplements and natural body and hair care products. Despite the many responsibilities I juggle, my passion for healthcare keeps me motivated. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field because I have always been drawn to helping others.
Growing up, I was the youngest of six children, and my fascination with healthcare began early. As a child, I always admired the role of doctors and nurses whenever I had medical checkups. I was particularly inspired by my pediatrician, who always made me feel better, not just physically but emotionally as well. Because of him, I originally dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, but as I grew older, I discovered that my passion was not just about medicine, but it was also about providing care, comfort, and support to those in need. That realization led me to pursue nursing instead.
I chose nursing because I love the healthcare environment and the opportunity it gives me to make a real difference in people’s lives. Nurses are often the first and last people a patient interacts with during their medical journey. They provide not only medical care but also emotional support, compassion, and reassurance. I believe that offering someone my undivided attention in their most vulnerable moments is one of the most rewarding aspects of nursing. I want to be the person who makes a patient feel safe, heard, and cared for—just as my pediatrician once did for me.
Another reason I was drawn to nursing is its versatility. As a nurse, I will have the ability to work in various settings, whether it be a hospital, a clinic, or even within my own community. My goal is to bridge the gap between medical care and holistic wellness. With my background in natural health products, I hope to combine traditional medicine with holistic care, providing patients with well-rounded treatment options that cater to both their physical and mental well-being.
The biggest difference I want to make in healthcare is to provide comfort to those in pain, and that means both physically and emotionally. I want to be a source of support and strength for my patients, helping them through their most challenging moments. Whether it's holding a patient’s hand during a difficult diagnosis or ensuring they receive the highest quality of care, my mission is to improve lives one patient at a time.
Furthermore, I want to be an example for my children. My 18-year-old son, who is currently in college, and my 12-year-old daughter inspire me to keep going. I want to show them that no matter the obstacles, perseverance and hard work will always pay off. Balancing full-time work, school, and family is not easy, but my passion for healthcare keeps me pushing forward.
With my degree in nursing, I will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to change lives, bring comfort, and advocate for better healthcare. This journey is about pursuing a lifelong calling to care for others, not merely reaching a professional objective. Becoming a nurse is more than just a profession; it's a passion, a mission, and a means of changing the world.
Brad Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship
March 1, 2004, is the day that changed my entire life. At just 16 years old, I lost my father to lung cancer, an experience that left a lasting void in my heart. My father was more than just a parent—he was my greatest source of love, guidance, and support. As the youngest child, I was undeniably a daddy’s girl. Everywhere he went, I followed. He taught me so many valuable lessons, from riding my first bike to cooking meals with an exquisite taste for exotic foods. He had a way of making life fun and adventurous, and I will always cherish the memories of him dancing with me and making me smile with his incredible sense of humor.
One of the things I loved most about my dad was his unconditional love for me. He had a way of making me feel special, whether it was doing my hair when my mom had to leave for work early in the morning or teaching me how to drive my first car. He always emphasized the importance of being independent, telling me, “If you want a husband when you get older, you have to know how to cook.” His wisdom, patience, and love shaped me into the person I am today. My dad gave me the nickname Bear, and to honor his memory, I bought a Pandora bracelet with a teddy bear charm—a small but meaningful way to carry his presence with me every day.
Losing my father at such a young age was devastating. Watching him go through the stages of cancer, from diagnosis to his very last breath, was heartbreaking. No child should have to witness a parent suffer in that way. His absence has been especially difficult during significant milestones in my life—he wasn’t there to see me graduate from high school or college, to walk me down the aisle, or to meet his grandchildren. It pains me to know that my kids will never experience his warm hugs, his laughter, or the wisdom he would have shared with them. However, I keep his memory alive by visiting his gravesite often with my children, telling them stories about their grandfather. I joke with him, saying how mad I am that he left me and how now there’s no one left to spoil me or tell me what’s wrong with my car.
To honor my father’s legacy, I named my son Porter after him. Every time I say my son’s name, I feel a small piece of my dad’s presence, and it brings me comfort knowing that his name and influence live on. My father was a man of motivation and determination, always pushing my siblings and me to be better and achieve more. He believed in us and encouraged us to reach for greatness.
Even though I never imagined losing him so soon, I find peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering. His departing from this earth took a piece of my heart that I am still trying to mend. I know my mother and siblings miss him just as much as I do, and his memory continues to bring us together. His love, wisdom, and guidance still shape my life, and I will always strive to make him proud. Though he may be gone, his impact on my life will never fade. I miss my dad every single day, but I carry his love with me always.
Poynter Scholarship
Balancing single parenthood, full-time work, and full-time school is not easy, but it is manageable with determination and support. I have always strongly emphasized education, both for myself and my children, because I believe it is the key to a better future.
My son is currently in college, studying industrial maintenance, and I constantly encourage him to keep pushing forward. My daughter, who is in seventh grade, struggles with math, so I dedicate time after work to help her understand complex math. In addition to helping her myself, I also pay for tutoring sessions to ensure she gets the extra help she needs. My son has recently stepped in to help his sister with math, which has been a tremendous help, showing that education is a shared journey in our household. Seeing my son work hard in college and my daughter trying her best in school motivates me to persevere. They are my greatest inspiration, and I want to show them that no matter how tough life gets, we must keep striving for our goals. Having children that understand this process is a blessing.
I feel like I made the best decision to wait until my children became more independent to think about my education again. Now that they are at a better stage in their lives, I have decided to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse again. However, there are nights when I feel like giving up because of the financial strain. Some days, I wonder how long I can continue stretching myself so thin. I pray daily that I will be able to pay for school without having to make difficult choices that could disrupt my family’s stability. The thought of uprooting my children and moving in with my mother so that I can afford school is heartbreaking. At the same time, the idea of giving up on my education to try and save money only to delay my dreams even further bothers me deeply. These worries weigh heavily on me, but my children push me to keep going.
Being awarded this scholarship would alleviate some of the financial burdens I face as a single parent and full-time student. I do not receive financial aid, and I have maxed out my student loans. As a result, I have to work extra hard to keep up with tuition and other expenses while ensuring my children’s needs are met. It would help cover tuition and books, allowing me to focus more on my education and less on financial stress. Also, it would enable me to continue supporting my children academically, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed in their lives.
My ultimate goal is to become a nurse and provide a stable future for my family. Nursing requires dedication, compassion, and resilience. These are qualities I have developed through my journey as a single parent. I want my children to understand that, despite the challenges, education is always worthwhile. I'll be one step closer to accomplishing my goals and creating a better future for my family with this financial assistance.
Law Family Single Parent Scholarship
My name is Leandra Austin, and I am a 37-year-old nursing student. My journey to higher education has been filled with challenges, but my experiences as a single parent have shaped my determination to succeed. As a single mother of two children, an 18-year-old son and a soon-to-be 13-year-old daughter, I have endured struggles that tested my strength and my faith, but through it all, my love for my children and my passion for nursing have kept me going.
I started college in 2005, full of hope for my future. However, in 2006, during my first year, I had my son. Many people doubted me, telling me I would never finish college because I was pregnant. Their words hurt, but I refused to let them define me. I wanted to give my son a better life, and I pushed forward despite the obstacles. In 2009, I graduated from a technical college with an associates degree in business administration, proving to myself and others that I could succeed.
Even though I had always dreamed of becoming a nurse, my fear of math held me back. Instead, I pursued respiratory therapy, but life presented new challenges. I found myself in an abusive marriage that made it difficult to focus on school. As I started school I realized that I was pregnant with my daughter, as I finished my 3rd semester and it was time for me to have her, the emotional and physical toll forced me to quit. I felt even more overwhelmed. I cried, feeling like a failure, but eventually, I found the strength to leave that toxic relationship. I was too ashamed to go back to school again, but I knew I had to build a better life for my children.
Being a single mother made everything more difficult. I had to work full-time while ensuring my children felt loved and cared for. Despite my responsibilities, I never lost my passion for nursing. I knew that if I wanted to provide for my children and set an example of perseverance, I had to overcome my fears and return to school.
In 2024, I finally made the decision to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. This time, I am more determined than ever. The hardships I have endured have given me a deeper understanding of resilience, compassion, and the importance of helping others. As a nurse, I want to use my experiences to make a positive impact in my community.
My journey as a single parent has taught me the value of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance. These qualities will make me a great nurse and allow me to give back. I plan on making a positive impact by inspiring young mothers who feel like giving up and advocate for survivors of domestic abuse. I want to provide compassionate care to patients, offering them the same empathy and support that I once needed.
Returning to school has been a long and difficult journey, but I am proud of how far I have come. My children are watching me, and I want them to see that no matter how many times life knocks you down, you can always get back up. Nursing is more than a career for me—it is my purpose, my passion, and my way of giving back. I am ready to embrace this new chapter and make a difference, not only for my family but for my community as well.
Wanda G. Lear Memorial Scholarship
Becoming a nurse is more than just a job decision; it's a deeply personal calling that fits with my background, love of helping others, and desire to care for the sick. Throughout my life, I have felt a deep sense of responsibility toward those in need, whether my family, friends, or strangers who require care and support. I hold dear compassion, selflessness, and dedication and this allows me to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
One of the main driving forces behind my decision to become a nurse is my personal experiences. Over the years, I have witnessed the power of compassionate care. Whether through taking care of my children when they were sick or supporting a family member in times of medical need, I have developed an innate ability to comfort and nurture others. These experiences have reinforced my belief that healing is not only about medicine but also about providing emotional support, reassurance, and kindness. In order to ensure that patients feel seen, listened, and cared for during their most vulnerable moments, I want to be the person who can provide them with comfort.
Taking care of sick individuals is something I'm naturally drawn to since I was young. I've always been drawn to doing small deeds of kindness or big acts of concern for other people. Nursing allows me to extend this natural inclination into the healthcare setting to provide hands-on care to those most in need. The idea of being there for someone struggling, holding their hand through pain, and guiding them toward recovery fills me with a great sense of purpose. I understand that sickness can make people feel helpless and afraid, and I want to be the reassuring presence that makes them feel safe and cared for.
My family and children have also significantly influenced my decision to pursue nursing. As a parent, I understand the importance of being there for my loved ones and providing them with emotional and physical support. This desire extends beyond my household and into the broader community. I want to set an example for my children by showing them that kindness, dedication, and hard work can make a difference in this lifetime. By becoming a nurse, I am fulfilling my passion and creating a stable, rewarding career that will allow me to support my family while impacting others positively.
Compassion and a caring heart are at the core of who I am. Nursing is not just about treating illnesses but also about treating people with dignity and respect. Every patient has a special story, and every individual deserves to be treated with empathy and kindness. As a nurse, I can form connections with my patients, listen to their concerns, and provide comfort in moments of distress. Even the smallest gestures like a warm smile or a reassuring word can impact a patient's experience.
Above all, I want to become a nurse to make people feel good physically, emotionally, and mentally. The healthcare system can often feel overwhelming and impersonal, but nurses have the power to bring warmth and humanity into it. I want to be that nurse who goes the extra mile to ensure my patients feel valued and cared for.
Nursing is a journey that aligns with my passion for helping others, my personal experiences, and my deep sense of compassion. It is a career that will allow me to nurture those unwell, provide for my family, and comfort those in need. Nursing is my calling, and I am eager to embrace it with an open heart to make a difference in people's lives.

Becoming a mother at 18 in my first year of college was a very challenging experience. This journey was not easy for me, but I would not trade it for the world. Raising a child while trying to balance my education and personal growth presented many challenges, but it also shaped me into the resilient and determined person I am today. At the age of 23, I got married, and in 2012, I welcomed my second child into the world. I have learned patience, perseverance, and the true meaning of selflessness through the ups and downs of raising a family. These qualities have helped me as a mother and fueled my passion for pursuing a career in healthcare.
My love for healthcare started at a very young age. As a child, I always wanted to help and make people feel better. At just six years old, I dreamed of becoming a pediatrician because I loved the idea of working with children and making a difference in their lives. As I grew older, my passion for healthcare never faded, and by the time I reached my senior year of high school, I had set my sights on becoming a nurse. I knew that the medical field was where I needed and wanted to be, and my life experiences only made the passion for it stronger. I felt it in my spirit.
One of the most profound experiences that deepened my dedication to healthcare was watching my father battle cancer. Seeing my dad's health decline was so heartbreaking to me, but it also motivated me to pursue a career where I could help others going through the same struggles that I have been through. I wanted to be there for patients and their families, providing medical care, comfort, and compassion during their most vulnerable moments. My father’s sickness and death taught me the importance of skilled and empathetic healthcare professionals, and I knew I wanted to be that person to make a difference.
Additionally, my children’s frequent illnesses when they were younger strengthened my commitment to the medical field. As a mother, nothing is more important than ensuring the health and well-being of your children. Every fever, cough, and sleepless night made me more determined to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide the best care—not just for my own family but for others as well. I saw firsthand the impact that dedicated healthcare professionals had on my children’s health, inspiring me to follow in their footsteps.
Despite the numerous challenges I have encountered along the way, they have only strengthened my will to be successful in the healthcare industry. I learned perseverance, flexibility, and the value of hard work from being a young mother—skills that will be useful in the medical industry. My desire to serve people and my life experiences have strengthened me to pursue a profession in healthcare.
I am ready to take on this journey and make a difference in the lives of others, just as so many healthcare professionals have done for me and my family.
Michele L. Durant Scholarship
I'm a 37-year-old mother of two amazing kids who live in the growing city of Florence, South Carolina. My most significant sources of inspiration and pride are my 12-year-old daughter and my 18-year-old son. I am fortunate to work as a dialysis secretary since I help patients and staff, which helps people in need. In addition, I am an entrepreneur who has a small business selling natural body care, hair care, and holistic supplements. A significant thread in all I do, from my work to my business and personal pursuits, is my love for assisting others and enhancing their quality of life.
Since I live in Florence, I have a strong bond with a community that is primarily made up of families with low to moderate incomes. I can personally attest to the difficulties many of my neighbors encounter, ranging from paying for essentials to getting access to high-quality healthcare. These encounters have strengthened my resolve to have a significant influence on my community. Pursuing a nursing degree, a profession that epitomizes compassion, resiliency, and service, is the first step on my path to accomplishing this objective.
My lifelong love of providing care is what pushed me to choose nursing as my career. I've always been motivated by a desire to serve people, whether it's through my work as a dialysis secretary, where I assist patients administratively and emotionally, or my holistic product company, which promotes wellbeing. By giving people in need direct, hands-on care, nursing will enable me to further this dedication. It provides the chance to address patients' and their families' emotional and psychological health in addition to their physical health issues.
I'm dedicated to changing my community more broadly in addition to pursuing my career goals. I want to inform people about natural and reasonably priced ways to take care of their bodies and brains through my holistic business. Regardless of financial status, I think everyone should have access to wellness. I intend to develop initiatives that support preventative healthcare and offer low-income families resources to lead healthier lives by fusing my nursing degree with my business ventures.
My outlook on the future is not limited to my local community. I want to start ventures that tackle disparities in health and provide people the resources they need to take charge of their own health. In order to provide medical treatment and education to those who are disadvantaged, I intend to create a network of support by utilizing my nursing experience and entrepreneurship skills.
My ultimate goal is to leave a compassionate and helpful legacy. I want to encourage people to have a positive influence in their own communities, no matter how tiny. I am certain that I can make a significant difference and contribute to a happier, healthier world via nursing, my business, and my commitment to assisting people.

Finding one's purpose in life is frequently influenced by one's experiences and desire to change the world. Helping to care for my father during his fight with cancer was a very personal and life-changing experience that led me to decide to pursue a career in nursing. This difficult but significant time stoked my desire for nursing, a field focused on compassion, care, and healing, and reinforced my love of helping people.
After learning that my father had cancer, my family and I were thrown into a world of doctor's appointments, treatments, and taking care of others. I learned the significant effects of comforting and caring for someone in need during this period. Before he passed away, my life became centered around helping my father with his everyday necessities, making sure he was comfortable, and providing him with emotional support. Even though the circumstance was challenging, I felt a great sense of joy from being able to support his wellbeing. I learned the importance of empathy, patience, and resilience from this experience—qualities that are critical in the nursing profession.
As a child, I always imagined myself in a position where I could assist people. My first goal was to become a pediatrician because I loved kids and wanted to make a difference in their lives. But as I advanced through high school, I began to see things differently. I came to see that nursing presented a special chance to establish a closer relationship with patients and offer holistic care that went beyond treating medical conditions. I really connected with the practical aspect of nursing and the opportunity to build strong bonds with patients and their families.
What interests me the most about nursing is its emphasis on making a real impact in people's lives. Improving health, taking away pain through general care and a holistic approach, and sticking up for patients are all critical tasks carried out by nurses. The variety of job options in the sector, which include community health, critical care, and pediatrics, provides countless chances for advancement and specialization. Working in pediatrics appeals to me the most since it will allow me to blend my love of working with children with my enthusiasm for providing care.
Not only has my father's illness inspired me to pursue a career in nursing, but it has also given me a distinct viewpoint and a strong feeling of empathy. As someone who has personally experienced the difficulties that patients and their families encounter, I am dedicated to offering the same caliber of support and care that my family received when we were in need.
Nursing is a calling to help people and have a large impact on their lives; it is more than just a job. I find inspiration in the human spirit's tenacity and the ability of compassionate care to offer consolation and hope. Knowing that every day will present fresh opportunity to develop, learn, and change the world, I am excited to take on the opportunities and challenges that come with being a nurse as I set out on this path.
Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship
Being a single parent and a student simultaneously is undoubtedly one of my most complex challenges. Balancing caring for my children while pursuing my education requires constant juggling and sacrifice. As a mother, my children’s well-being is my priority, but I also recognize that my education is key to building a better future for all of us. The intersection of these two roles—being both a caregiver and a student—has presented numerous obstacles. Still, it has also strengthened my resolve to create a better life for myself and my children.
One of the most significant challenges I face is time management. My son, who is 18, is transitioning into adulthood, and while I am incredibly proud of him, I still have to support him in his educational and personal growth. My daughter, 12 years old, requires more hands-on attention as she navigates the complexities of adolescence. Balancing their needs with my academic workload is a delicate task. I sacrifice study time to help with homework, attend school events, and ensure my children feel supported. The emotional and mental load of trying to be present for them while managing my academic responsibilities often leads to exhaustion.
Financial strain is another immense challenge. As a single parent, I am responsible for our household finances. While I am committed to providing for my children, the costs of higher education—tuition, textbooks, and school supplies—are considerable. Despite my best efforts to work part-time, the burden of tuition fees and everyday expenses is overwhelming. There are times when I worry about how I will make ends meet, especially when unexpected costs arise, such as medical bills or car repairs. This financial pressure often distracts me from my studies, as I constantly look for ways to bridge the gap between school expenses and our household needs.
This scholarship would make a profound difference in both my educational journey and our family’s future. Financially, it would provide much-needed relief, easing the burden of tuition and other related costs. This would allow me to focus more on my studies, rather than stressing about how to pay for the next semester or where to find the funds for textbooks. By alleviating some financial pressure, I could devote more time to academic excellence and less time working multiple jobs or scrambling to meet household expenses.
Beyond the financial assistance, this scholarship also serves as a reminder of the value of perseverance. I want to show my children, especially my son and daughter, that no matter the obstacles, education is the key to unlocking opportunities and breaking cycles. I want to inspire them to do the same by continuing my education and pursuing my goals. My children are watching me work hard, and I want them to see that commitment and resilience lead to positive outcomes even when life is tough.
In conclusion, being a single parent and a student presents challenges that require constant balancing, time management, and resilience. This scholarship would provide the financial support necessary to ease some of these challenges, allowing me to focus more on my education and less on the financial stress that comes with it. With this support, I will be able to pave the way for a better future for both myself and my children while also setting an example of determination and hard work.

My educational journey has been anything but straightforward, filled with unexpected twists and turns, but it has led me to a place of clarity and purpose. Since graduating high school, I have been driven by a deep desire to become a nurse. However, the road to nursing has been challenging, marked by career changes, personal obstacles, and moments of doubt. Each step has shaped me, and with renewed determination, I am pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse.
After high school, I enrolled in college to become a nurse. However, I struggled with key courses like Biology 211 and Math 110. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t pass these courses, which led me to reevaluate my career path. At that point, I decided to switch majors and, in 2009, graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. While I felt accomplished, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my true calling lay in healthcare. Nursing was still my dream, but life had other plans for me.
In 2010, I decided to return to school and pursue a degree in Respiratory Therapy. It felt like a logical next step, combining my interest in healthcare with a practical career path. However, I faced significant personal challenges during my time in the program. I became pregnant with my second child and found myself trapped in an abusive relationship. The stress of raising a child, navigating an abusive environment, and managing my coursework became overwhelming. Ultimately, I had to make the painful decision to leave school and focus on my family and personal well-being. I was never able to return to complete my Respiratory Therapy degree.
After years of struggle, I found the courage to separate from my abusive partner in 2018, which marked a turning point in my life. With renewed independence, I enrolled at Limestone College to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration. I was determined to finish my degree and create a better future for myself and my children. However, just as I entered my senior semester, I ran out of financial aid and student loans. Despite applying for numerous scholarships, I could not secure enough funding to finish. I once again had to put my educational goals on hold.
However, the dream of becoming a nurse never faded. I have always been passionate about healthcare, and over the years, I started my own holistic health business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products. I make and sell herbal supplements, natural body care products, and hair care products designed to help people heal naturally. This business grew out of my desire to holistically heal my family and myself. While running my business, I worked alongside healthcare professionals who encouraged me to return to school for nursing, suggesting that it would be the perfect complement to my holistic health journey. Their encouragement and my own experiences led to my “aha” moment: nursing was the missing piece I had been searching for. I realized I could combine my passion for holistic health with formal medical training to offer a comprehensive, well-rounded approach to healing.
This revelation reignited my passion for nursing. I know now that becoming a nurse will allow me to profoundly impact people’s lives, blending traditional and holistic healing methods. It has always been my dream, and I am now ready to make it a reality. With the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years, I am more determined than ever to pursue a nursing career and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

The impact this scholarship funding would have on my life and my journey toward becoming a holistic health nurse is profound. As an entrepreneur, mother, and full-time student, I constantly juggle various responsibilities. This scholarship would ease the financial burden of pursuing my nursing education, allowing me to focus more on my academic goals and my passion for holistic health. The funding would provide the stability I need to continue growing my holistic health business while pursuing a degree that will enable me to integrate both holistic and conventional approaches to healing.
In 2022, I started my business, The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products, driven by a deep personal need to heal myself and my family naturally. My son and daughter had been getting the flu every year since they were young, and I watched them struggle with conventional treatments that didn’t seem to offer lasting solutions. This experience fueled my desire to find an alternative way to improve our health. In 2016, I began researching natural ways to heal. In 2020, I started creating herbal supplements, natural body care, and hair care products to strengthen the immune system and promote overall well-being. Through trial and error, I developed products that helped my family and myself recover more quickly from illnesses and maintain better health year-round. As my products began to show results, I knew I had something valuable to offer others, so I turned my passion into a business.
Running The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products has been both rewarding and challenging. It has allowed me to connect with people seeking natural alternatives to conventional treatments, and I have seen firsthand the power of nature in healing. However, balancing my business with school, family, and other life responsibilities has been difficult. The financial demands of my education and business continue to add pressure, and this scholarship could make all the difference. It would reduce the financial strain of tuition and allow me to reinvest in my business, ensuring I can continue to offer high-quality, effective products to my customers. This support would also allow me more time to focus on my studies, helping me advance my goal of becoming a holistic health nurse.
My ultimate dream is to become a holistic health nurse, combining my passion for natural healing with the clinical expertise of nursing. I believe holistic health should be an integral part of modern healthcare, and I aim to bridge the gap between traditional and alternative therapies. As a nurse, I want to offer patients a more well-rounded approach to healing that addresses not only the physical body but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of health. I hope to guide others in using natural remedies and lifestyle changes alongside conventional treatments to create a balanced and sustainable approach to wellness.
This scholarship funding will allow me to take the next step toward my holistic health nurse certification while also growing The Gemini Goddess Herbal Products. It will enable me to continue to help others heal naturally and work toward a future where holistic health is a mainstream and accessible form of healing for all.

Nabi Nicole Grant Memorial Scholarship
There was a time in my life when I faced an overwhelming challenge that tested both my physical and emotional strength. I had undergone multiple back surgeries, and each one left me feeling weaker, in more pain, and more uncertain about the future. The worst part was not knowing how I would care for my children or manage the financial responsibilities that weighed heavily on my shoulders.
After my surgeries, I found myself unable to work, struggling with mobility, and battling constant pain. My kids, who depended on me for everything, were too young to understand the situation entirely. I worried constantly about their well-being. How could I care for them when I couldn’t even care for myself? How would I pay for basic necessities like food, rent, and utilities? The financial strain felt suffocating. I had always prided myself on being independent, but now, I was forced to confront a reality where I had no control over what would happen next.
During these dark moments, I turned to my faith for strength. I grew up believing that there is a higher purpose and that I could find the strength to face any obstacle with faith. At first, I struggled to accept that I was in such a vulnerable position. But the more I prayed and reflected, the more I began to trust that God had a plan for me, even if I couldn’t see it then.
One night, after a particularly painful day, I silently prayed for peace, guidance, and strength. I asked for help to provide for my children and to carry me through this overwhelming challenge. As I sat there, I felt a sense of calm I had not felt in weeks. I realized I didn’t have to figure everything out alone. My faith reminded me that I was never truly alone, even in my weakest moments.
In the following weeks, small miracles started to unfold. A friend offered to help with child care, allowing me to rest and recover. I was able to connect with community organizations that assisted with my bills. Slowly but surely, the pieces began to fall into place. I had to lean on others, but I also had to keep pushing forward, believing that things would improve.
Through this experience, I learned that faith is not just about believing in a higher power but about trusting in that power to help you through the most challenging times. I learned to rely not only on myself but also on the love and support of others and, most importantly, on my faith, which gave me the strength to keep going.

When I was 16, I lost my father to cancer. His death left an indelible mark on my life, one that shaped my perspective on the future. Despite the grief, I found a source of inspiration within myself: my desire to continue my education and make my father proud. He had always encouraged me to follow my dreams, and losing him only strengthened my resolve to do so. I wanted to honor his memory by pursuing a career that would allow me to help others, just as he had helped me. I decided to become a nurse, a profession that offers the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives—just as my father had made a difference in mine.
However, my path to education has been far from easy. After my father’s death, I faced many obstacles that made pursuing my dream a challenge. One of the hardest was enduring domestic abuse, which made my home environment unsafe and emotionally draining. It was difficult to focus on schoolwork when I was consumed by fear and anxiety, but I knew that education was my way out. I clung to the belief that a better life for myself and my children depended on it. Despite the turmoil at home, I refused to give up on my dream.
Financial hardship was another major obstacle. After my father’s passing, my family struggled to make ends meet, and I had to work multiple jobs to support myself. Balancing work, school, and family life often felt impossible, and there were many times I wasn’t sure I could continue. But I kept reminding myself of why I was doing this—to create a better future for my children and to make my mother proud. I didn’t want them to experience the same struggles I had endured. I wanted to give them the stability and opportunities I dreamed of.
As a mother, managing my student and caregiver roles has been incredibly challenging. Late nights and early mornings became routine as I balanced studying with caring for my children. There were days when it felt like I was running on empty, but I found strength in my children. Their future was my driving force. I wanted them to see that hard work and perseverance pay off, and I wanted them to know that they can also achieve their dreams, no matter their obstacles.
To manage these roles, I developed a strict schedule, carving out time for my studies while ensuring my children’s needs were met. I relied on my family and friends for support, whether helping with childcare or providing emotional encouragement. My journey has not been easy, but each step has brought me closer to becoming a nurse—a profession that will allow me to provide for my family and give back to others in need.
Despite the hardships, my pursuit of education has been a testament to my resilience and determination. I am more committed than ever to achieving my dreams for myself and my family.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
My decision to pursue a nursing degree is more than just a professional decision; it is a profoundly personal calling that stems from my love of helping people and my desire to influence my community in Florence, South Carolina, significantly. My interest in science and healthcare and my innate compassion come together in nursing, which offers a means of improving the health of people and families. In addition to professional expertise, a nurse must possess empathy, resilience, and a dedication to lifelong learning—qualities I try to live up to.
As I grew up in Florence, SC, I saw firsthand how vital medical professionals are to the well-being of our town. Nurses frequently act as the backbone of our healthcare system, helping during medical emergencies and providing consolation to low-income families. My desire to work in a field that allows me to directly influence people's lives—not only by treating illnesses but also by promoting health and preventing disease—was sparked by these experiences. Nursing provides the exceptional chance to establish a personal connection with patients, attending to their emotional and mental health and physical demands.
Nursing's adaptability is one of its greatest draws. I can work in various places with a nursing degree, including clinics, hospitals, schools, and community health organizations. This adaptability supports my long-term objective of tackling particular healthcare issues in Florence. By teaching patients how to manage these disorders and lead healthier lifestyles, I plan to focus on preventive care as a nurse. Ultimately, I want to improve our community's outcomes by empowering people to take charge of their health through patient education and advocacy.
The thought of helping marginalized communities also appeals to me. Like many places, Florence has people who find it difficult to access high-quality medical care because of logistical or financial barriers. As a nurse, I'll stand up for these people and ensure they get the consideration and care they need. My objective is to close the gap between healthcare services and those needing them most by volunteering at neighborhood clinics or participating in community outreach initiatives.
Earning a nursing degree offers the chance to advance both professionally and personally. The demanding coursework and clinical experience will push me to improve my capacity for critical thought, flexibility, and high-pressure work. Any nurse must possess these qualities, and I am excited to take on the difficulties and benefits of this path.
In conclusion, I want to become a nurse since it is a career goal and a means to give back to the community that has influenced me. By offering compassionate care, encouraging health education, and resolving inequities in healthcare access, I hope to impact Florence positively. In addition to being a profession, nursing is a dedication to improving the lives of others, and I am prepared to give my all to this goal.

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston have significantly impacted how I view life and the kind of difference I hope to make in the world. Every book provides unique perspectives on purpose, personal development, and how we define and mold our roles in the world.
I learned the value of self-discovery and having the guts to live a genuine life from Their Eyes Were Watching God. The main character, Janie, sets out on a path of emotional and spiritual development, discovering how to appreciate herself, create her own identity, and go against the grain of society. Janie realizes that genuine fulfillment originates from within and that one must take charge of one's own story via her experiences with love, sorrow, and adversity. This strikes a deep chord with me because it highlights the strength of self-love, independence, and resilience. It serves as a reminder that, like Janie, I have the freedom to overcome obstacles, find my calling, and pursue personal fulfillment while improving the lives of others.
My desire to impact the world has been shaped by this lesson in sincerity and self-empowerment. In addition to embracing my journey, I want to live a life encouraging others to follow in my footsteps. People are more equipped to give back to their communities, build stronger relationships, and effect positive change when they feel free to be themselves. I want to be a voice for people who might feel ignored or excluded, assisting them in finding their strength and purpose, much like Janie's voice became a symbol of empowerment in the book.
In contrast, Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life gave me a foundation for comprehending my life's purpose and how it relates to serving others. The basic thesis of Warren's book is that our lives are not arbitrary and that accurate fulfillment occurs when we achieve our purpose by helping others and aligning our lives with a higher sense of meaning. Worship, ministry, evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship are the five main goals listed by Warren. The notion that our lives are about improving the lives of others rather than merely attaining personal accomplishment is what struck me most.
My desire to change the world for the better has been greatly influenced by this concept of service and living with a purpose. Through direct deeds of kindness, backing neighborhood projects, or working on projects that enhance the lives of those in need, I want to commit my life to helping others. I've learned from the Purpose Driven Life that every action can change the world, no matter how tiny. It has given me a strong desire to make a meaningful contribution to my community, whether through volunteer work, mentorship, or just being a kind and encouraging influence on others.
These two books have combined to help me realize that the secret to making a lasting impression is to live an authentic and purposeful life. They have taught me that while changing the world is not always straightforward, it is always worthwhile when it is based on compassion, self-awareness, and service to others. I want to apply these lessons to live a moral life, change the world, and inspire others to follow in my footsteps.

WinnerMy name is Leandra Austin and I was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina, and I am 37 years old. As a mother of two, my motivation has always been to provide my family with a better future and be a good role model for my kids. I have always been interested in helping others, especially kids, and healthcare. This interest has developed over time into a distinct career goal of becoming a nurse, focusing on children. Creating a stable, nurturing environment for my family and giving back to the community that has supported me throughout my life is just as important as pursuing a job for personal fulfillment.
As I've gotten older, my long-held desire to become a nurse has become more significant. As a mother, I'm more committed than ever to establishing a career that will enable me to have fulfilling and influential work and provide financial support for my family. My main objective is to obtain my nursing degree and pursue a career as a registered nurse, possibly focusing on pediatrics. I am very enthusiastic about providing children and their families with compassionate treatment that includes medical knowledge and emotional support during trying times. In addition to focusing on patients' physical well-being, I want to be the nurse who reassures and comforts needy families.
My family, especially my kids, will be significantly impacted if I succeed in my career. I intend to give children a stable and secure future by pursuing a career in nursing, which will enable our family to prosper. I place a high value on spending quality time with my children, and the flexibility of nursing scheduling will allow me to do both. I want to demonstrate to my kids that no matter their age or life circumstances, they can achieve their goals if they put in the necessary effort and persevere. As kids mature, I want to teach them this important lesson.
I will also be able to provide for my family in ways other than financial security by pursuing a career in nursing. I will be able to set an example for my kids as a nurse, showing them the significance of hard work, empathy, and giving back to others. I will be able to inculcate these similar ideals in my children by using the self-assurance and abilities I acquire from my nursing career to assist them and encourage them to seek occupations that benefit their communities in addition to themselves.
One of my main career goals is to give back to the community after earning my nursing degree. Helping people outside of my immediate patients is a duty that comes with being a nurse. I intend to donate my time to local clinics, particularly those that assist marginalized or impoverished communities. Additionally, I would like to raise awareness about wellness and preventive care by participating in health education, especially for families and kids. I also want to mentor others who want to become nurses, especially those who might return to school later in life like me.
In conclusion, becoming a nurse is more than just reaching a personal and professional objective; it's also about improving my family's future and giving back to the community. By taking this route, I intend to satisfy my desire to serve people while giving my kids financial security and important life skills. I want to enhance the lives of those around me by volunteering, mentoring, and supporting health education initiatives after receiving my degree. Reaching my career objectives will enable me to have a long-lasting influence on my patients, my family, and my community.
Charles B. Brazelton Memorial Scholarship
My childhood dream was to work as a pediatrician—the thought of making kids feel better and the field of medicine both captivated me. I felt excited and purposeful when I saw a compassionate doctor working closely with young patients to heal them. I saw myself in a white coat, diagnosing diseases, listening to heartbeats, and improving the lives of kids and their families. However, my career path changed when I got older and looked at the different possibilities. My current career goal is to become a nurse, which aligns with my passion to help others and improve their lives, even though it differs from my childhood ideal.
My initial interest in medicine was driven by a strong desire to help people and personal experiences. Family health was a top concern in my upbringing, and I frequently went to doctor's appointments with my parents. This exposure to the medical industry sparked my interest in healthcare. I was intrigued by the idea of assisting kids in overcoming pain and disease, and I appreciated pediatricians' work. When I was younger, I pictured how fulfilling it must be to help kids overcome difficult times and ensure they have the most positive and consoling interactions with doctors.
However, as I went through school and was exposed to various aspects of the healthcare industry, I started to see that a nursing profession would better fit my interests and strengths than becoming a pediatrician. I began recognizing nurses' unique role in the healthcare system, even though I wanted to aid families and children. The people who give direct care, such as consolation, support, and emotional reassurance, are frequently nurses. Working as a nurse would enable me to establish closer bonds with patients and their families and directly influence their healing and general well-being.
Nursing offers an array of experiences, which is one of its most appealing attributes. Nursing provides a more flexible career path than becoming a doctor, which calls for years of medical school and specialized training. I can work as a nurse in various places, including clinics, hospitals, schools, and homes. I'm excited about the prospect of working in pediatrics, critical care, or mental health, among other nursing specialties. I also value nurses' opportunities to collaborate and help patients by working closely with physicians and other medical experts. I connect with this spirit of teamwork and the chance to keep learning and developing in the industry.
I also decided to pursue a career in nursing instead of my childhood dream of becoming a pediatrician because I'm becoming more aware of the emotional demands of the medical field. The primary focus of a pediatrician would be on ailment diagnosis and treatment. Even while it is crucial, I saw that nursing offers a broader range of emotional support, especially for patients and their families during trying or uncertain times. Frequently, nurses spend the most time with patients, providing both physical and emotional care. This area of nursing appeals to me because my empathy and desire to help people make me a good fit for the position.
In conclusion, I want to become a nurse instead of my childhood aspiration of becoming a pediatrician. Although helping people, especially children, is still at the heart of my desire, nursing presents an extraordinary chance to give care in a more straightforward, adaptable, and emotionally encouraging manner. Being a nurse is the appropriate path for me, and I'm looking forward to the chances it will present to continue developing professionally and personally while positively influencing other people's lives.

Returning to school after a significant absence can be both exhilarating and intimidating. Along the journey, I personally faced a number of difficulties, such as properly managing my time, getting over self-doubt, adapting to new learning technologies, and handling financial hardship. Even though these challenges first felt impossible to overcome, I learned important knowledge about it.
Time management was one of the most pressing issues I encountered. I had to juggle my studies with employment, family, and personal responsibilities when I went back to school as an adult. Keeping up with homework and tests while working a full-time job and caring for the family felt like an overwhelming task. This left me feeling overloaded. I overcame this by creating a strict plan, dividing everything into doable chunks, and designating particular study hours. I prioritized chores and maintained organization by using digital tools, planners, and reminders. The workload became easier to handle as I gradually figured out how to set aside specific times of the day to concentrate only on schoolwork.
I had trouble not only with time management but also with self-doubt. I wondered if I could keep up with the younger pupils after missing a few years of school. I was afraid I might not be able to handle the course's pace or understand new ideas. In the beginning, this sense of imposter syndrome was a constant cause of worry. But as I advanced in my classes, I came to understand that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. My fears were shared by many of my peers, both young and old. I also realized that I had a distinct viewpoint in class debates because of my life experiences, which increased my confidence.
I had to get used to the growing use of technology in the classroom was another difficulty I encountered. Printed textbooks and in-person lectures were the standard at the last school I attended. However, there had been significant changes in the educational environment. With online textbooks, online tests, and online debates, classes were now taught via online platforms. This was frightening at first, but I invested hours getting acquainted with internet discussion boards, learning management systems, and teamwork tools.
The financial burden of going back to school was still another major obstacle. Textbooks, tuition, and other expenses soon grew and I began to worry about accumulating debt. The idea of having to rely on student loans or financial help was frightening to someone who had been financially independent for a number of years. However, I spent time looking for reasonably priced textbooks and resources, applying for financial aid, and researching scholarships.
Finally, maintaining my motivation was essential to my accomplishment. Sometimes I wondered if I should keep going at times when the assignment felt too much to bear. I used times like this to remind myself of my goals for the future and the ultimate reasons behind me going back to school. I was able to stay focused by setting manageable goals and acknowledging each accomplishment. Additionally helpful was the encouragement I received from my instructors and fellow students, which kept me on course when things became difficult.
In conclusion, there were a number of difficulties with going back to school, such as managing time, self-doubt, adjusting to technology, dealing with financial hardship, and staying motivated. But I was able to get past these challenges by cultivating a strong work ethic, asking for help when I needed it, and remaining goal-focused. Along with strengthening my academic skills, the experience helped me grow personally and equipped me for the chances and challenges that lie ahead.
