Multiple different readings have shaped my goals but two of the most distinct books for me have been Just Do Something by author Kevin DeYoung as well as his other book titled Hole in our Holiness. These two books encourage the true motivation for our actions and how following God is not a sprint but rather a marathon towards eternity and God receiving all His glory. During the fall semester of my sophomore year at Northwestern College, I was able to dive deeply into what the will of God is for our lives and these books were a strong encouragement to me. DeYoung points out the areas where the modern church needs to long for improvement and how as believers there becomes a point to which we need to be steadfast in prayer and the conviction God has given us to move forward with that. I am a current junior at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and I am involved on campus and my local church in the area. Northwestern has been a place where I have seen the Lord most at work in my life. Currently, I serve as the student government president, a Franken Fellow; a peer career mentor, a student tutor for general education courses, a student board member for a non-profit in the Orange City area; ATLAS, and the orientation weekend co-director for first-year experience. I plan to make a positive impact on my campus the last two years, first, because of the help of the Lord and how He will strengthen me day after day by His grace. Secondly, I desire to see change cultivated for the better in each place that I go to. There is a saying in which every person should leave places better than they found it. I believe this can happen for me in the areas in which I am involved on campus. Through student government, my team and I plan to implement activities that will increase student involvement on campus and re-write our constitution this year to increase the productivity of meetings. Serving as Franken Fellow; peer career mentor, I will be able to serve students through the journey of finding their future careers and be focused on the individuality of making a difference. Finally, through serving as an orientation co-director for first-year experience, I plan to make a difference in the lives of students who will be arriving on campus for the first time. Through being involved on campus and my Christian education, I one day plan to go beyond on Northwestern College to go wherever the Lord calls me and use the skills and lessons I have learned to impact those around me through truth and love.
