Hello! My name is Laylah Votion and I am a rising senior at the Young Women's Leadership Academy, a two-time national blue ribbon school recognized as the 20th best school in the country. I have attended YWLA since 2016 and have since then been instilled with the confidence to put myself out there, even if it means potentially failing. That is why in 2020 when I learned of Covid-19's impact on the Deaf community, I was compelled to do something to assist in making the world a little less isolating for them and making communication easier with the use of clear masks. I spent over a year and a half on this nonprofit initiative, and it was something I was greatly devout to educating myself on and spreading awareness about. This endeavor helped me to realize my two greatest passions in life: helping others and using my creative/ artistic interests to do so. Once pandemic restrictions began to ease, I wanted to figure out my next steps. Since then, I have remodeled my nonprofit into a "give-back business" in which I use my creative pursuits to help generate profits that will be paid forward to charitable organizations and those in need. While a large portion of my life is dedicated to helping others, I myself am not in a place to go without a little financial assistance and have taken on a part-time job on top of my school load to help save for what I know will be a costly future. I hope that any organizations interested in my story will see that their investment in me will be one that helps not only myself but any others I can help through my future initiatives.
