Bold Be You Scholarship
“In life and love, stay true to yourself. Never change who you are- nor sacrifice what you want- to become what someone else demands” This quote is by Charles Orlando. It highlights how people tend to change themselves to accommodate other people’s ideas. In today’s day and age, people are continuously challenged with who they need to be, to be accepted into social norms.
When people are saying to stay true to yourself they mean to be completely honest with how you feel, value, and desire. Even I am still working on following the steps to stay true to myself.
The first thing I started to do was stop caring what people think. The only time I recommend when you should care is if it is someone close to you and they are trying to help. Aside from that if you will not execute an activity simply because you are afraid some is judging you there is a problem. Not caring is the hardest step and will have to be persistent in dealing with this step on a day-to-day basis.
The best step that I love, is to take yourself on dates. This is simply self-care, but I just take myself to go shopping occasionally. Attempt to only “celebrate” after you complete a hard activity this aids in helping your reward system become better. I like to think this step goes hand-in-hand with journaling. Taking up journaling can assist in understanding yourself and loving yourself. Which is conveniently the last step. This step is just you taking the time to do things that you’ve always wanted to do. It can be small actions like trying boba tea for the first time or getting rid of a toxic relationship with a friend.
