      HBCU STEM Scholarship
Going to College is important to me because I will be learning new skills that will ultimately help me to obtain my dream job. I will be able to meet people and learn different ways of doing things. I think College is important because it will allow me to form lifelong friendships and to learn how to function independently as a young adult. Whether attending College in your hometown or going away to school, the experience can vary for some people. If going to school at home, one may choose to live on campus or live at home. I am a Rising Sophomore at Savannah State University. I chose to go away to school in another City because I wanted to experience being away from home. I lived on Campus, and I had to learn to navigate how I was going to get my meals, wash my clothes and manage a full Schedule of Classes. My First couple of weeks was an adjustment with moving into the dormitory and getting settled, then learning where my classes would be. In college there are no parents to tell you when to get up, when to go to class or when to get your work done. The responsibilities lie with the student. For me, it took a while to get used to me not seeing my parents and grandparents every day. It helped knowing that I could just pick up the phone to hear their voices or do a video call to see their faces. There were times I got home sick and needed some words of encouragement. It is at that time when I felt most energized and I felt I could continue to take on my life as a budding College Student. It is important to set goals. I am fortunate to have a support system cheering me on and celebrating my successes. What I took away from my first year of college is that if you want to succeed, you have put in the work. You have always put your best foot forward and always give yourself a fighting chance. I learned that I must be diligent in my efforts to succeed and to not be afraid to speak up and ask for help. I was always told to advocate for myself. I am determined to produce the best outcome for me. This college experience has taught me That no one makes it through college alone. It is a team effort. It is important to learn to work with others to ensure you reach your desired goal. I also learned how to be responsible by staying on top of my work, listening to my lectures and to never delay studying if you know a quiz or exam is coming up. My hard work and dedication to my studies will pay as I when I receive my degree in 3 years.
      Empowering Black Women in Tech
As a child I have always been fascinated with Technology. I like to learn how things work and how they operate. In Elementary school, I participated in the Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) program. I made sure that I always got to play with robots at the school and also got to learn how to do the 3D Video Editing Software. I was learning how to put a Video within a Picture explaining the Subject of Genetics which I participated in with my Twin Sister. The Project ended up going to the State in which I got to compete with Several other schools in my Age Category. The project did not place but got an Honorable Mention. This further fueled my interest in the Technology World. When I entered High School, I was a part of the Afterschool Program Called the Future Seekers. They had a robotics program in which I got the chance to participate. My very first project, I was given a Circuit to build. I built the circuit and turned it on, and it worked. After a short period of time, I took apart the Circuit and rebuilt it a different way and turned it on and it worked. The after school program held several competitions, I got a chance to interact with other students in the program. As I moved through my years of High school I was in the Engineering Program Pathway for My School. I got the chance to go to State and Regional Conferences. I got a chance to lead a Project and become a Delegate for My School. My Senior year 2024. My passion was fueled even more when I was charged with the Responsibility of building my own Robot. The Robot was sponsored by Google and Georgia Tech. The Concept of the Robot was to greet incoming Freshmen and give them a tour of the school while educating the student on f facts about the school and its Founder. In my Current Chapter, I am an Upcoming Sophomore at Savannah State University. My Current Major is Electrical Engineering. I feel that the field of Engineering is wide open for women who choose to be Change Agents in the Field of Technology. I chose to pursue this career path because I get to incorporate my love for technology with learning new skills to implement in the Technology world. This scholarship would help me to continue my education debt free, and it will eliminate any stress so that I can remain focused in my classes. The challenge I found was making sure that I am able to get the required classes needed to complete my major in a timely manner. This scholarship can also help with getting supplies needed for class including course materials. In the Future, I would like to see a more Diverse world that offers a new perspective in the Field of technology. It is important to remain open to new ways of team facilitation and problem solving methods. Have an open mind to the new creative ways of technology and how it will evolve in the future. Technology continues to evolve in very powerful ways. Technology will help us shape our future. You are the one to choose how technology is used in your life.
