I am greatly interested in music, this includes listening, playing, and even trying to write it. I'd like to pursue a career in higher education to become a teacher so I can make an impact on kids my age one day and be the person that my teachers were for me. I love community service and being able to help others, whether it be directly or indirectly.

The one piece of advice my mom would repeat almost daily was to save my money and manage it well. We have never been in a super tight position with cash, but on occasion, we have had to put streaming services on hold or prioritize certain purchases, like groceries or cleaning supplies. It would suck when those moments would arise, but the feeling alone is a reminder that I have to manage my money well and develop better habits. As I head into my senior year of high school, I realize I have a million different expenses to consider; senior dues, college application fees, personal wants, bills, etc, and putting money aside for those things is a must.
My mom has taught me the importance of sitting down and planning for my expenses, my wants, needs, bills, and savings. In addition to dividing up my paychecks and setting aside money for different expenses, I have also learned the importance of saying no and doing what is better for my wallet. Whenever I am with my friends I encourage them to do the same and make smart choices. I do not tell people to not spend money when they go out, but I encourage them to make smarter financial decisions so they do not end up having to worry about money sometimes and stressing over insufficient funds.
Keeping all of this in mind, I use this advice from my mom as I prepare to leave for college in the next year. I am already thinking about dorm and clothes shopping, supplies, and even spending money while I am away. Whenever I get paid, I put aside money for my savings. How much does not matter, as long as I am doing my future self a favor and saving her from hardship.
