I am a first-year Spelman College student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health.
My career goal is to contribute to the enhancement of mental health services and awareness for teens and children of color, as the importance of mental health is not often recognized in our communities. In support of this goal, my academic journey is critical in providing the experience, exposure, and knowledge I need to provide the most value possible in my field.
I view my attendance at Spelman College as an essential cornerstone for my academic journey. Throughout my first year, I have been provided a great foundation in courses, volunteer work, and leadership opportunities to understand various challenges among marginalized communities.
I aspire to obtain a PhD in Psychology and become a clinical psychologist providing therapeutic services to children of color. I want to fill the gap in awareness and accessibility of mental health, as this aspect has always been somewhat neglected in these communities. Ultimately, I plan to open my own accessible psychology practice. As a Black female psychologist, I would like to guide my clients through their mental health development and inspire them in what they can achieve.
