Chip Miller Memorial Scholarship
My passion for the automotive industry comes from my biggest inspiration in my life, my father. Growing up, I was always going to car shows with him. A life-changing car accident in 2008 had left him unable to go back to work, but his love for all things automotive never died. His passion for cars was infectious, and it is something I still take great inspiration from today. I have fond memories of my dad working on his 1969 Camaro, which he originally brought home as a shell, and he spent years completely restoring it. His Camaro was the car that I learned how to drive a stick shift in, and it ultimately inspired me to buy my own project car at 16, a 1981 Z28 Camaro, which we drove out to Carlisle to pick up. Cars have always been a passion of mine, not just for what they are, but for what they represent: history, innovation, culture, and the lasting bonds they create.
As an accounting major who is also pursuing a CPA license, some might see my career path as distant from the traditional automotive world. But I believe the future of the American automotive industry will thrive not only because of skillful mechanics and design engineers, but also because of business professionals who understand how to sustain it. My passion for accounting stems from the same mindset that my dad and I have when working on project cars: precision, discipline, and a love for complex systems. I have always been fascinated by how businesses work behind the scenes, and automotive companies, from local repair shops to multinational manufacturers, are no exception. I want to be part of the infrastructure that allows these businesses to thrive and guarantee the success of the industry for decades to come.
My career goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant who specializes in working with automotive companies, mechanic shops, dealerships, or nonprofits like the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation. These organizations all need skilled professionals to manage their finances and grow sustainably. Whether I’m helping a local auto shop prepare taxes or auditing a large car manufacturer to ensure ethical operations, I want to use my accounting knowledge to contribute to the success of the industry I love.
Chip Miller’s legacy is inspiring because he didn’t just love cars; he brought people together who all shared the same passion and hobby as him. Like Chip, I want to make a lasting impact. Inspired by Chip’s legacy, I hope to leave a meaningful impact by helping others make their automotive dreams a reality, whether the dream is of rebuilding a classic car, starting their own automotive business, or fostering innovation in the automotive industry. With my background in accounting and my deep appreciation for car enthusiast culture, I’m committed to helping the next generation of car lovers succeed creatively and financially.
Being awarded this scholarship would help support my educational goals as I complete my master's degree in accounting and bring me one step closer to becoming a CPA who fuels the future of the automotive world, not from under the hood, but from behind the scenes, where passion and precision meet.
