Bio

I am a passionate educator who recently transitioned into teaching after a successful career in banking. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2011 with a degree in Criminal Justice and spent nearly a decade working as a Loan Officer, gaining valuable experience in customer relations, financial management, and problem-solving. However, my desire to make a deeper, more meaningful impact in my community led me to pursue a career in education. In 2023, I began teaching and quickly discovered my true calling in the classroom. Inspired by the opportunity to work with students and help them achieve their potential, I decided to pursue a path in special education. I have received my Alternate Teacher Certification in Special Education. My goal as an educator is to provide every student, regardless of their challenges, with the support and guidance they need to succeed academically and socially. I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered. With a diverse background in both business and education, I bring a unique perspective to my teaching practice, focusing on personalized learning, patience, and empathy to help each student thrive.

"A sense of their own presence" refers to the understanding that an individual has value, purpose, and a unique identity in the world around them. For students with special needs, this sense of presence may be harder to cultivate due to external challenges—whether they be academic, social, or emotional. It’s the awareness that they, too, have a place in the world, that they matter, and that they can influence their own future. My mission as an educator is to foster an environment where my students can discover, embrace, and confidently express their own presence, so they can approach each day with pride in who they are and what they bring to the world. To guide my students with special needs to experience this sense of presence, I approach teaching from a place of deep empathy and respect for each child’s individuality. Every student has unique strengths, and recognizing these strengths is the first step in helping them understand their worth. By focusing on what they can do rather than what they cannot, I aim to create an atmosphere where they feel empowered, encouraged, and confident in their abilities. For students with special needs, building a strong sense of self-worth is crucial. Many of these students have encountered barriers in traditional learning environments, which may have led to frustration, confusion, or feelings of inadequacy. My mission is to help students experience success, no matter how small, and to celebrate their unique journeys. I foster an inclusive and supportive classroom where each student’s contributions are valued, and where they can see that their differences are not obstacles but rather aspects of who they are. I believe that creating this sense of presence starts with establishing a safe and nurturing environment. When students feel safe, they are more willing to engage with their peers and the world around them. My classroom is one where emotional and social needs are just as important as academic needs. Through positive reinforcement, personalized attention, and a focus on strengths, I help my students build self-confidence and a sense of their own abilities. Ultimately, my mission as an educator is to guide my students to recognize that their presence matters. I want to teach them that their voices deserve to be heard, that their contributions are important, and that they have the power to shape their own futures. Through individualized instruction, emotional support, and a deep commitment to celebrating each student’s uniqueness, I work to create a classroom where every student has the opportunity to experience a sense of their own presence—a presence grounded in self-worth, respect, and belonging. In conclusion, my goal is not only to teach academic content but to empower students with special needs to feel confident in who they are and what they bring to the world. By guiding them to experience a strong sense of their own presence, I believe they will be better equipped to navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and ultimately contribute to the world in their own meaningful way.
