"Will six-months-from-now-Laura thank you for making this decision?"
That is the question I've been asking myself for the past year. This simple test allows me to confirm that my choices are not only going to keep me true to myself, but also keep me true to the goals I've set for myself.
Despite excelling academically in high school, I was unsuccessful in college, as an 18 year old, first time student. I did not quite know who I was yet. I did not even know exactly how to find that out. I did things out of character. At times, I felt out of control.
Nine years later, I have a career in aviation, working for companies admired across the world. And yet, I find that to be true to myself, and to live as my best self, I must begin a different career path. My passion for social justice issues has driven me to complete my education. Everyday, I ask myself if I am doing things that move me closer to making this happen. This time around, I know that I am.
I have surrounded myself with a supportive group of people who root for my success in all of these endeavors. I keep my mental health at the forefront of my mind. I stay true to what is in line with my morals and my short and long term goals. Because of all this, no matter what comes next as I face the challenge of returning to school, I know I will be successful.
