I’ve always believed that the best way to grow is to give back, and every opportunity I’ve had in athletic training has strengthened that belief. Currently, I give back by serving as the Outreach Coordinator for the Athletic Training Student Society (ATSS) at the University of Houston. This is a role that has allowed me to build connections between our program and the Houston community. In this position, I help organize service projects, community events, and volunteer initiatives designed to support both our campus and local organizations. Through coordinating donation drives, campus outreach events, and volunteer opportunities, I’ve been able to bring students together to serve with purpose. This role has helped me grow as a leader while strengthening our program’s presence through meaningful acts of service, education, and community engagement.
Beyond campus involvement, I also give back through participation in major athletic events that rely heavily on medical volunteers. In 2024, I volunteered as part of the medical teams for both the Houston Marathon and the Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas. These experiences exposed me to high-pressure medical environments where quick thinking, teamwork, and compassionate care were essential. Whether assisting with athlete triage, cooling protocols, hydration needs, or injury management, I saw firsthand how impactful sports medicine professionals can be in supporting safe athletic participation. These opportunities reinforced my passion for helping others and highlighted the importance of service within the athletic training profession.
One of the contributions I am most proud of is assisting in teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to 200 kids. I was also able to assist in helping them save a choking222 baby and how to stay calm in emergency situations. Helping young students understand lifesaving skills and empowering them with confidence to act in an emergency was incredibly meaningful. This experience reminded me how education can create a ripple effect by helping at least one person with CPR knowledge can potentially save a life.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue making a positive impact by earning my Master of Athletic Training degree at the University of Houston. With this advanced training, I hope to provide high-quality, compassionate care to athletes from youth sports to the high school level. My long-term goal is to improve access to sports medicine resources in underserved communities, advocate for athlete safety, and help build healthier athletic environments. My inspiration comes from being an athletic training student aide in high school with very few resources for high school athletes. By combining leadership, service, education, and continued volunteer work, I hope to make a lasting difference not only in the sports world but in the broader community as well.
