My name is Lationia Fairley, and my dream job is to become a screenwriter. It took me some time to realize what I wanted to go to college for I knew what I was good at I didn’t know how to apply it to a major. But writing gives me a voice, and I want to use that voice to tell real, honest stories. I want to reach young people who feel misunderstood or invisible because I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to dream big with little support, to carry heavy feelings, and to wonder if you matter. I write for those who feel unheard, lost, or overlooked. I want to show others that they are not alone and that their voices matter. Through my stories, I hope to offer comfort, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.
Sometimes I have so many ideas that I don’t even know where to start but I love that feeling. It means I’m passionate. It means I have something to say. That’s also why I love writing books. I have a big dream of becoming a New York Times bestselling author one day I can see it clearly. I believe in the power of storytelling to transform lives, and I want to be one of those storytellers who leaves a mark on the world. Majoring in English will help me develop my writing skills, deepen my understanding of literature, and prepare me for a future in both screenwriting and publishing.
I’m especially excited about a career in screenwriting because it allows me to use my imagination in so many creative ways. I have a big vision, and I believe storytelling can spark hope, open minds, and create meaningful connections. I want to write characters and narratives that show the beauty, complexity, and strength of all kinds of people especially those who are often ignored or misrepresented. I want my work to help people feel seen, understood, and inspired. I want someone to watch something I wrote and think, “That’s me.”
Supporting women’s empowerment is also deeply important to me. I’ve mentored younger girls in my community and helped them believe in their own strength and potential. I plan to continue that through my writing by highlighting women’s voices, breaking down harmful stereotypes, and inspiring others to dream big. Whether it’s through storytelling or direct support, I want to help women feel seen, strong, and unstoppable.
Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
I don’t come from a wealthy family. In fact, I’ll be the first in my family to go to college. My goal is to break generational curses I truly believe that I’m the one who’s going to change my family line. I had so many ideas and things I want to do in this world. My mom has worked hard her entire life to give me every opportunity. She once told me, “Money won’t be the reason you don’t go to college.” She’s made sacrifices without hesitation taking on extra shifts, skipping things for herself just to make sure I had what I needed. My goal has always been to make her proud and to show her that her dedication wasn’t in vain. But sometimes if get hard because I know I got a a lot people looking up to me and believing in me I don’t want to fail them. I know college not got be the best at first it’s going take time.
Growing up, books were my escape, and writing became my safe space. So far, I’ve published two books and have plans to write many more. Over time, I realized writing wasn’t just a hobby it was a way to understand myself and the people around me. That’s why I’ve chosen to major in English with the dream of becoming a screenwriter.
Writing gives me a voice, and with that voice, I want to tell stories that reflect real life its struggles, beauty, and hope. I want to write scripts that speak to young people who feel misunderstood, unheard, or like they don’t belong. Because I’ve been that kid. I know what it’s like to dream big with limited means, and I want my work to remind others that their voices matter too.
This scholarship would mean more than just financial help. It would be a symbol of belief not just in my talent, but in the potential of someone who came from humble beginnings and dared to dream big. It would help lift some of the burden off my mother’s shoulders and bring me one step closer to building a future where I can inspire others through the power of storytelling. One day, I hope to create films and shows that give others the same sense of hope that books once gave me. With your support, I can turn my dreams into something real and help others believe they can do the same.
