PrimePutt Putting Mat Scholarship for Women Golfers
I have played golf for fifteen years, and it has become one of the most important parts of my life. What I love most about the game is the process of improvement. Golf is unique because perfection is impossible, yet every day provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and get a little better. I enjoy the challenge of identifying areas of my game that need improvement, dedicating time to practicing them, and eventually seeing that hard work translate into results on the course. Whether it is my putting, driving, short game, or mental approach, recognizing progress motivates me to continue working toward my goals. Another reason I love golf is that no two days are ever the same. Every round presents a new challenge. One day I may drive the ball exceptionally well, while another day my putting carries my score. The constant variation keeps the game exciting and has fueled my passion for over a decade. Golf has taught me patience, discipline, and the value of consistent effort. My passion for golf has led me to compete as a Division I student-athlete on the Howard University Women's Golf Team while pursuing a degree in Business Management. I aspire to play professionally on the LPGA Tour. I also hope to create a coaching business where I can share my experiences and knowledge with young golfers. I want to help the next generation develop not only their skills on the course but also the confidence, discipline, and resilience that golf teaches. One of the greatest challenges I have faced was losing my golf coach during my sophomore year of high school. He was one of the first people who believed in me when I was seven years old and knew very little about the game. He dedicated countless hours to helping me develop my skills and played a significant role in my success as a junior golfer. Without his guidance and support, I would not be where I am today. After he passed away, I was forced to find a new coach. I quickly learned that finding the right fit was not simple. My former coach emphasized feel, creativity, and trust, while many coaches relied heavily on technology and data. As I moved from coach to coach, I struggled to find a good fit. While this experience was difficult, it taught me resilience and adaptability. Another challenge I continue to face is rebuilding confidence in my game. During my time at Howard, I have not always performed at the level I know I am capable of. As my results declined, so did my confidence, and I began to question my abilities and trust in my swing. This mental hurdle has been one of the most difficult obstacles I have encountered because it affects every aspect of performance. I chose to address it by working with a golf psychologist and developing strategies to strengthen my mental game. Through this process, I have learned that success is not always measured by scores or tournament finishes. Sometimes success means continuing to show up, trusting the process, and believing in yourself even when results are not immediate. Through golf, I have learned perseverance, discipline, adaptability, and self-belief. The challenges I have faced have shaped me into a stronger athlete and person. They have reinforced my commitment to pursuing my goals and have prepared me to face future obstacles with confidence. No matter where golf takes me, the lessons I have learned through the game will remain with me for the rest of my life.

    1. Outside of golf and academics, I invest my time in maintaining balance and continuing to grow personally. As a student-athlete, I have learned the importance of taking care of myself mentally, physically, and socially to perform at a high level. I prioritize my health by working out consistently, maintaining a healthy diet, and preparing home-cooked meals whenever possible. I also value the relationships in my life and enjoy spending time with friends and family. Whether it is going to flea markets, playing cards, or simply being social, this helps me stay grounded and connected outside of the demands of athletics and school. In my free time, I also enjoy journaling and drawing, which give me a creative outlet and a way to reflect and reset mentally. Additionally, I appreciate opportunities to give back and stay involved in my community when possible because I believe leadership is demonstrated not only through achievement, but also through the way you support and connect with others. Overall, I strive to invest my time in ways that promote balance, discipline, and personal growth. 2. I am currently in the Howard University School of Business studying business management. I have aspirations of starting a golf coaching business for students who are interested in learning the game of golf and those who are committed to taking their game to the next level, while also integrating important life skills like discipline, patience, and perseverance into lessons. While at Howard University, I had the opportunity to take an entrepreneurship and small business class, which taught me what it takes to start and run a business. I created a business plan, including everything from the overview of the business to the financial assumptions for the next three years. I was able to envision every aspect of my idea and tweak any loose ends. My business will be located in Connecticut at an indoor facility to give those who are unable to practice during the wintertime an opportunity to continue to improve regardless of the weather. Growing up in Connecticut, I understand the disadvantages that golfers in colder states face, being forced to take the winter off or find an indoor facility to practice at. 3. My personal experience and inspiration from my coach have influenced my dreams of giving back to my community through golf, and working with First Tee has reinforced it. I have been fortunate enough to teach golf to students within my community by being actively involved as a coach for First Tee for the last 5 years. I have also been involved in Howard University’s Community Day, where the team shares their experiences as student-athletes with kids within the community. Some are just starting out, and others are more advanced and have goals of playing in college. Our goal is to help students improve their swings and, for those who are just starting, teach them the basics like grip, aim, and stance, by using the knowledge we have gained throughout the years playing competitive golf. I have expressed an interest in coaching, and along with working in the pro shop, I will be able to lead junior clinics this year during my summer internship at Whistling Straits. 4. Receiving the HCGS would significantly reduce the financial burden on both my family and me. As the cost of higher education continues to rise, securing financial support has become more challenging. This scholarship would provide more than financial assistance; it would provide peace of mind. With less concern about the cost of tuition and other educational expenses, I would be able to dedicate more of my time and energy to excelling in the areas that matter most: my academics, my development as a student-athlete, and maintaining a healthy balance in my personal life. Rather than focusing on the financial uncertainty that often comes with pursuing a college degree, I could focus on making the most of the opportunities available to me and continuing to work toward my long-term goals. The HCGS would not only be an investment in my education, but also an investment in my future. It would allow me to continue pursuing academic and athletic excellence while preparing myself to make a meaningful impact in my career and community after graduation. 5. One of the most difficult moments of adversity in my life was losing my golf coach during my sophomore year of high school. He was one of the first people who believed in me when I was seven years old and knew very little about the game. He dedicated countless hours to helping me develop my skills, and his guidance played a major role in my success as a junior golfer. Without his support, I would not be where I am today. After he passed away, I was forced to find a new coach. I assumed that any coach would be able to help me continue improving, but I quickly learned that finding the right fit was not that simple. My former coach emphasized feel, creativity, and trust, while many coaches relied heavily on technology and data. As I moved from coach to coach, I struggled to find someone who matched my learning style. This experience taught me resilience and adaptability. I learned that growth often requires moving forward even when the path is uncertain. Most importantly, I learned to trust myself. While my coach helped shape my foundation, I discovered that my success could not depend on one person alone. His lessons continue to guide me, and overcoming that loss made me more independent, confident, and determined.

    1. As a rising sophomore, my first year in college was spent trying to navigate and balance this new student-athlete lifestyle. It was much more rigorous and demanding compared to high school. Between being on my own for the first time, workouts, practice, school work, and traveling it was hard for me to get involved around campus. I prioritized what was important to me, which was my sport, academics, health, and my loved ones. As part of the Howard University golf team, I am committed to early morning workouts, practice in the afternoons, and traveling for tournaments sometimes as much as 5 days at a time. Combining this with a full course load of classes it became a struggle to get adjusted to. My education is very important to me as I have earned a 3.65 GPA after my first 2 semesters. My commitment to my education meant having to do homework on planes, in hotels, on the way to practice, and staying up late to complete assignments. Managing all this for the first time along with prioritizing my health by getting enough sleep, recovering from workouts, watching how I eat, and also having time to relax and enjoy myself, leaves little time to be involved in extracurriculars. I’m extremely eager and look forward to getting involved next year and years following, especially since Howard’s School of Business is truly a gold mine of opportunities for students who actively participate in extracurriculars. 2. One of my biggest dreams in life is to own a coaching business to give back to the kids within my community by teaching them the game of golf. Passing on the knowledge that I have obtained through the years of experience like my coach did me is super important to me. My coach was a direct influence on this dream and I hope that in the future I can help students gain opportunities and that golf will open doors for them as it did for me. This dream of mine developed through all the years I spent playing golf. I figured that my 10 years of knowledge could help someone else pick up the game of golf and possibly make a hobby or even a career out of it. I ultimately decided to use some free time I had after practice to volunteer as an assistant coach for First Tee. I was able to see the direct influence I had on the kids that I taught every week, especially the little girls, watching their faces light up when they saw me, another girl teaching them. So by studying Business Management and using the skills that I gain from Howard University School of Business, networking events that I have the opportunity to participate in, and golf events that I have attended, I trust that I will be well equipped with the skills that I need to have a successful coaching business.  3. As I mentioned before, one of my goals post-graduation is to own a coaching business to introduce golf into the lives of kids within my community, especially those who may not have access to the sport. Golf has had such a positive impact on my life, giving me countless opportunities and opening so many doors, that I believe it has the ability to do the same for someone else. I believe that golf has the power to teach life skills, like integrity, discipline, and respect and I want to be someone who helps children experience that. I hope to create a supportive, inclusive space that fosters growth not only as athletes but as students. I am currently working toward this goal by serving as an assistant coach for First Tee which is an organization that uses golf to teach important life skills and core values and promotes youth development. I am also involved in the Ladies Clinics and Junior PGA League at my home club, which allows me to be a mentor to athletes and help them build a strong character through golf. Doing this allows me to use the platform I have as a student-athlete by sharing experiences and knowledge to help younger athletes within my community and be a mentor and role model for them. Ultimately I want to make the game more accessible and inclusive for the next generation, inspiring them to reach their full potential on and off the golf course.  4. Being a recipient of the Hulede Collegiate Golf Scholarship will have a massive impact on my college experience on and off the golf course. As a Division 1 athlete, I strive daily to balance the academic and athletic commitments I have made to myself and others around me. This scholarship will relieve me and my family of some financial stress as it will aid in the cost of tuition. It will significantly help me pursue my ultimate dream of playing professional golf on the LPGA Tour, allowing me to invest more of my time and effort into my academics and my performance on the golf course, rather than worrying about how I will pay for school. Beyond financial support, the mentorship component of the Hulede Scholarship can help me in the future. Having guidance and support from those who have a better understanding of the challenges there are of being a student-athlete will help me grow as both a person and an athlete. I am eager to learn from those who can help me develop stronger leadership skills, refine my goals, and navigate the transition from college to a successful career when the time comes. Your mission to support minority golfers is truly inspirational and deeply resonates with the goals that I have for the future of golf. Being considered for this scholarship is a huge honor and I am thankful for the opportunity to apply.
