Choosing a field of study is a decision that shapes one's future trajectory, and for me, that decision was to pursue political science. The realm of political science captivates me due to its dynamic nature, its ability to influence society, and its potential for effecting positive change. My interest in politics was sparked by observing the impact that governmental decisions have on individuals and communities, igniting a desire within me to understand the intricacies of governance and policymaking. One of the primary reasons I chose political science as my field of interest is my aspiration to create a tangible impact on society. I believe that the political arena serves as a platform for advocating for social justice, promoting equality, and addressing pressing issues that affect people's lives. By delving into the study of political science, I aim to equip myself with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the political landscape and contribute to meaningful policy changes that benefit society as a whole. Moreover, my personal values and goals align closely with the principles of political science. I am driven by a deep-seated commitment to promoting democracy, upholding human rights, and fostering inclusivity within society. These values serve as the foundation of my professional passion and drive me to pursue a career in the field of political science. I am dedicated to working towards creating a more just and equitable society, where the voices of marginalized communities are amplified, and where policies are designed to address systemic inequalities. In addition to my values and aspirations, I believe that my background and experiences have equipped me with the necessary tools to excel in the field of political science. As someone who has been actively involved in community service, advocacy initiatives, and leadership roles, I have honed my communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. As a student aspiring to pursue a career in law, I am driven by a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the world through my education and future profession. I firmly believe that the legal field provides a powerful platform to advocate for justice, equality, and social change. There are several causes and issues that I am passionate about, and I have thoughtfully considered how I can leverage my education in law to work towards making a difference in these areas. One of the causes that I am particularly passionate about is environmental justice. The degradation of our planet due to climate change, pollution, and deforestation is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. With a legal education, I plan to advocate for stronger environmental regulations, hold corporations and governments accountable for their actions that harm the environment, and work towards creating sustainable solutions for a greener future. By utilizing my knowledge of environmental law, I aim to contribute to the protection of our planet and ensure a healthier and more sustainable world for future generations. Another issue that I am deeply committed to is social justice and human rights. Injustice and inequality persist in various forms, whether it be discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, or socioeconomic status. Through my education in law, I intend to fight for the rights of marginalized communities, advocate for equal access to justice, and work towards dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate inequality. By engaging in pro bono work, volunteering with legal aid organizations, and participating in advocacy efforts, I hope to contribute to creating a more just and equitable society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Furthermore, I am passionate about criminal justice reform. The current criminal justice system is plagued with issues such as mass incarceration, racial disparities, and lack of rehabilitation programs. With a legal education, I plan to work towards reforming the system to focus on rehabilitation, restorative justice, and addressing the root causes of crime. By advocating for policy changes, supporting community-based initiatives, and representing individuals who have been unfairly impacted by the criminal justice system, I aim to contribute to creating a more fair and humane system of justice. In conclusion, my education in law will serve as a powerful tool for me to make a positive impact on the world. By focusing on causes such as environmental justice, social justice, and criminal justice reform, I aspire to use my legal knowledge and skills to advocate for meaningful change, challenge injustice, and contribute to creating a more just, equitable, and sustainable society. I am committed to utilizing my education to work towards a better world for all individuals, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead to make a difference through the practice of law.

    Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
Before discovering Booktok, I did not enjoy reading. Booktok is a community of readers on TikTok that share alluring and intriguing stories they have read. Through Booktok I have discovered that reading was not a boring homework assignment that you’ve been forced to do numerous times, and never finished the book. Reading has become an exciting hobby for me and I am always on the hunt for a new book. My perfect bookshelf consists of a variety of mysterious and drama filled novels, along side the perfect romance story every girl dreams of. The first book I was persuaded to read was “Ugly Love” by Colleen Hoover, which was filled with drama, fear, anger, passion, and so many plot twists! I finished the entire book within a day and it is still one of my favorite stories, and I would add this book to my dream bookshelf. After this book, I read all four of Jennifer Lynn Barne’s Inheritance Games books, which would make the perfect series for my dream bookshelf. I then listened to audio books such as “I’m glad my mom died” by Jeanette McCurdy and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. While I read them in audio book form, I would love the opportunity to read them page by page and have them in my bookshelf. There are so many books that I haven’t read that I have been on the hunt for from TikTok. I would love to continue reading more Colleen Hoover books, such as “Verity”, “It Ends with Us”, and “Reminders of Him”. I am obsessed with Hoover’s writing style, which would make her perfect to add to my dream collection. I would love to read “The Naturals” series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, since I have read her Inheritance Games series and fell in love with it. Barnes writing really gets my imagination fired up and keeps me wanting to read more, so of course her Naturals series would go in my bookshelf so I can bindge read them whenever I get a chance to. I would love to add “Archers Voice” by Mia Sheridan to my bookshelf because of how many good things I have heard about the love story. My to be read list is quite long thanks to Booktok, but the next book I will be reading is “The Wish” by Nicholas Sparks. I have heard nothing but positivity about this book, and many of my friends have recomended it to me as well. Booktok has impacted my lifestyle so much that it is the first thing I search up every time I get on TikTok, or even when I’m on the hunt for a new read. I never would have thought I would make my dream bookshelf, or even read a book for fun, but Booktok has influenced me so drastically on the wonderous books I have found.
    Team Nolan Scholarship
My junior year I finally broke free from a very manipulative relationship with my mother, which eventually lead to a stressful custody battle. I knew someway I had to do something huge with my life to prove my mother wrong, that I could be something great, but I didn’t know just what I would be yet. After meeting with my lawyer before the court case, he explained to me how the day would go, and if I were to get nervous looking at my mother while I was testifying against her, I could just look at him instead and pretend that there was no one else in the court room. That very day, I realized how passionate and determined my lawyer was to break me free from the struggles I was going through, and he inspired me to do just the same. I plan to be a family lawyer, mainly focusing on custody, adoptions, and divorces. I decided I will fight my way through whatever battles it takes for me to be the greatest lawyer I can be, and I hope I can influence someone’s life the way my lawyer did for me. I plan to attend Louisiana Tech university in the fall and I will major in Political science and minor in criminal law. I will graduate from El Dorado highschool, where I was born and raised in the same town. I am an active member of thespian troupe 42, and I am an Honors Thesipan. I still plan to be involved in theatre in college, as I love the way you can just step away from your life and become someone else. After I get my bachelors degree from Louisiana tech, I plan to go to law school at University of Arkansas Little Rock, where I will get a Juris Doctorate degree. When I get my J.D. I plan to join another law firm and do smaller cases until I can open my own and have my name out there where people know who to turn to when they need a family lawyer. I hope one day I’ll look back to my past self, unknowing if what I will become, and be able to tell myself that I finally made it, and that I am successful. I truly am proud of how far I have came from that little girl who was in a terrible living situation, to a home where I am loved and supported, with a future planned out for me.
Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
What could be a better way to celebrate the best season of all than to cuddle up on a cozy couch with a fuzzy blanket beside a fire watching Golden Girls and enjoying a tall pumpkin spice frappe from Starbucks? There is no better way! Fall is the best season of all for Starbucks, and the busiest. Their drinks such as the pumpkin spice latte, which is a well deserving fan favorite, and iced apple crisp oatmilk shaken expresso paired with their baked apple croissant, make Starbucks fans from all over the world enter a craze from the delicious flavors! My personal favorite drink year-round is an iced white chocolate mocha with two pumps of hazelnut with whipped cream and a beautiful caramel drizzle on top, and if it’s cold outside I’ll get the drink hot! Starbucks and college kids go together better than peanut butter and jelly. Just think about it, what better way to spend your day after cramming for finals until 4 am? Go get Starbucks and enjoy their delicious fall flavors before class. Starbucks will definently be one of the spots I go to the most during college, since Louisiana Tech University has a Starbucks on campus. Starbucks fall drinks are any teenage girls paradise. The seemingly “over hyped” pumpkin spice-flavored anything during fall is a great addition to any 60 degree day. Even if you are lactose intolerant, you can enjoy your drink with a milk substitute. What if you don’t like coffee? They have plenty of other drinks and snacks that don’t contain coffee. Starbucks is the perfect place for anyone willing to spend a couple bucks for pure joy. Teenagers all over the planet go absolutely insane for Starbucks, rightfully so. Starbucks has so many different flavors to try, along with different foods and a friendly environment inviting students to study in. Starbucks has many competitors, such as Dunkin’ Donuts. But let’s look at it from a different perspective, Starbucks is more well known and is overall more successful. Starbucks has one goal: to make teenagers and college student have a safe haven for when they are stressed. Starbucks also makes the perfect drinks that are aesthetically pleasing enough for your Snapchat stories and Pinterest feed. Starbucks is especially popular during the fall amongst teenage girls because of their fall flavors that make any situation paradise. Starbucks is the best place to go to when fall hits, especially when cramming for finals!
    Ryan T. Herich Memorial Scholarship
Ryan and I both have a strong passion for politics, which is why I am choosing to honor Ryan’s name by sharing my journey and path to becoming a lawyer. Being from a small town in Arkansas, there is a strong need for excellent lawyers; I believe it takes discipline and an openness to understanding opinions other than your own to succeed in a law practice. Going through a custody battle at 16 years old really set in place that decision to be a lawyer. My lawyer was very understanding of my situation and prepared me for what would happen in that court room. Although it is a stressful environment, I fell in love with the passion and determination a lawyer has for their clients. Under no circumstances did my lawyer have any doubt in my situation, and I plan to change someone’s life the same way he changed mine. I feel the political route is the pathway for me because I believe there are many things that need to be changed about our political system. I believe many lawyers don’t have the passion and determination to change their clients lives through one argument the way I aspire to do. I am planning to attend Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana where I will major in political science and minor in criminal law to have a better understanding of our political system. Afterwards I plan to attend Law school and receive a Juris Doctorate degree. I would become a family lawyer, taking on cases of divorce, custody, and even just exercising my clients rights. I love getting into political debates with people who have different backgrounds and opinions than myself because it helps me have a better understanding of how the world works and how other people think. I love coming out of a debate feeling as though I have grown as an individual and my opinions have either been taken into consideration by annother person or grown by someone else’s opinions. I hope one day I will look back on my past and see how I have achieved the goals I set for myself at a young age, and I hope to inspire like-minded individuals like myself and Ryan to put in the work for a degree in law. I believe it takes hard work and a strong-willed, passionate person to become a lawyer, and I believe I am just the right person for it.
