My name is Lamariee Washington, and I am from Los Angeles, California. I am pursuing a career in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) not only to build a career, but to create stability, security, and a better future for my family. My decision is deeply rooted in responsibility, sacrifice, and the values that were passed down to me through my family. I come from a single-parent household, and from an early age I learned that life requires resilience and accountability. I watched my mother work tirelessly to support our family, often putting her own needs aside so that my sister and I could have what we needed. In addition to her strength, I was also influenced by my grandfather and my uncle, both of whom proudly served in the United States military and are veterans. Their service taught me the importance of discipline, commitment, and putting others before yourself. Although my path is different from theirs, those same values guide me every day in my education and responsibilities. Today, I help take care of my mother and my younger sister, and I am responsible for paying all of our household bills. Carrying this responsibility has forced me to mature quickly, but it has also given me purpose. There is pressure that comes with being the provider, and there are moments when the weight feels heavy. Still, I push forward because my family depends on me, and I refuse to let them down. I chose HVAC because it is a skilled trade that offers long-term stability and meaningful service. Heating and cooling are essential to daily life, especially in Los Angeles, where extreme temperatures can impact health and safety. I take pride in learning a trade that allows me to protect families and keep their homes comfortable. Every skill I learn brings me closer to becoming someone my community can rely on and my family can be proud of. Balancing school, work, and family responsibilities is challenging, but those challenges have strengthened my determination. I approach my education with discipline and focus because I understand that my success directly affects the future of the people I love. HVAC is not just a job to me—it is a pathway toward independence, growth, and generational stability. My long-term goal is to start my own HVAC business. I want to build a company founded on honesty, quality service, and community support. I hope to create job opportunities and give back, while also setting a powerful example for my younger sister that hard work and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. I deserve this scholarship because I am committed to rising above my circumstances. I do not look for shortcuts; I look for opportunities to grow through effort and discipline. This scholarship would relieve financial pressure and allow me to focus fully on my training. More than financial support, it would be an investment in someone determined to succeed for his family, his community, and his future.
