      Jaqaun Webb Scholarship
I knew from a young age that I wanted to go to college after high school. Both of my parents attended college and instilled in me the value of education. I had a unique privilege to regularly be exposed to college campuses as a child, as my parents were University Band Directors. Being in that atmosphere on a regular basis and having the opportunity to watch people that looked like me (people of color, women achievers, etc.), gave me a boost of confidence and a desire to want to be just like them when I grew up. As a college student, I plan to continue to focus on my studies and learning all I can about music and psychology. Education is important to me, and I understand that my work ethic as a student will translate into my work ethic as a professional Music Therapist. Having a college degree will open many doors to my future, allowing me to pursue my desired career and provide for my future family. Obtaining a college degree will also help to continue my family legacy of a love for learning. To be successful in college, I have created a plan to stay organized and manage my daily schedule and tasks. I will be proactive with assignments, completing them on time or ahead of time, and participating in study groups whenever available. As a music major, I intend to be active in the university band program, as well as academic and cultural organizations on campus. I plan to attend college away from home and understand the challenges that may bring. To prevent becoming homesick, I plan to network with students in the band program and honors program, and create a support system on campus of like-minded people, where we can work together to motivate and encourage each other to succeed. If I am blessed to receive this scholarship, I know it will help me to attain my goal of becoming a Music Therapist.
