This fall I will be pursuing my Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Degree from the College of Saint Mary. I am extremely passionate about helping others become strong, more independent individuals. Recognizing the unique circumstance and values of each person is essential in providing quality service. I have a strong drive to understand these needs and navigate intervention methods to promote success and autonomy in people’s daily lives.
Ten years ago, my cousin was born in Israel and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. My relationship with my cousin has had an exceptional influence and impact on my aspirations in life. Despite the distance, I have had the privilege of supporting her through the hardships and accomplishments she has faced so far on her journey.
Occupational Therapy has gifted my cousin with a positive outlook through promoting independence in activities of daily living and providing a safe and inclusive environment. Realizing the impact of her Occupational Therapist was inspirational to me. I knew this career would allow me to reach my goals, daily, in helping people, making lasting and impactful connections, and assisting others in growing stronger, more independent, and empowered. My cousin's resilience propelled my passion and devotion to a healthcare career and caring for vulnerable and underserved populations.

Bold Helping Others Scholarship
My favorite way to help others is by being an active listener. I strive to be a person who others feel comfortable coming to with questions, worries, and concerns. Being receptive and focused on them not only shows my interest in what they are sharing, but also helps them to feel heard, seen, and understood. However, I do not have all the answers and I cannot always completely help others solve their issue. But I have found that simply allowing them to talk their issues through or giving them a safe space to get what they need off their chest can be so beneficial and helpful.
Empathy and emotions are powerful tools for helping and caring for others. I have learned that is okay to let your guard down and be vulnerable and open with others. An important part of active listening is relating to or trying to understand where that other person is coming from. Then, being honest and vulnerable with them helps that person feel more comfortable, it shows them they are not alone, strange, or different. I think society has taught us to hide or be ashamed of things that make us feel uncomfortable or different when in reality those things are so very common, normal, and natural. One way I try to combat this issue and help others is through active listening; creating safe spaces and encouraging honest conversations.
