Growing up, I learned that dreams only become reality when paired with discipline. As a competitive dancer, I quickly realized that talent alone would never be enough. Every performance, competition, and rehearsal was built on hours of practice, consistency, and the willingness to improve one step at a time. Dance taught me that success is not created overnight; it comes from dedication, resilience, and the ability to keep pushing forward even when challenges arise. Those lessons have shaped not only my passion for dance but also the way I approach every goal in my life. Throughout my journey as a dancer, I have learned the importance of commitment, teamwork, and leadership. Being part of a team taught me how to support others, communicate effectively, and understand that every individual plays an important role in achieving a shared goal. I have also had the opportunity to mentor younger dancers, which showed me the impact that encouragement and guidance can have on someone’s confidence and growth. These experiences have helped me become a more patient, responsible, and determined person. This fall, I will begin college with the goal of earning my degree while continuing to grow as a leader, mentor, and lifelong learner. I plan to take full advantage of every opportunity available to me, including internships, campus organizations, volunteer work, and networking experiences that will help prepare me for my future career. College, to me, is more than just earning a diploma. It is a place where I will challenge myself, expand my knowledge, build meaningful relationships, and gain the experiences needed to make a lasting impact. One of my greatest motivations is knowing that my younger siblings are watching my journey. Whether they realize it or not, my choices and accomplishments help shape what they believe is possible for themselves. I want to be an example that shows them the value of hard work, perseverance, and following their dreams despite obstacles. I hope they see that success is not about being perfect; it is about continuing to learn, grow, and never giving up. My path has not always been easy, but every challenge has helped me become stronger. I have learned how to balance responsibilities, overcome setbacks, and continue moving forward even during uncertain times. The discipline I developed through dance has prepared me for the challenges of college and beyond. As I enter this next chapter of my life, I am excited to continue building my future and using my experiences to inspire others. I hope to carry the determination, creativity, and passion that dance has given me into everything I do. With the support of my community, my family, and my own drive to succeed, I am ready to embrace new opportunities and turn my dreams into reality.

Freshman year, I was lacking. I got lazy, I got comfortable making excuses, and I let myself fall in with people and habits that made it easier to avoid what I was actually feeling instead of dealing with it. School felt like a weight I couldn’t lift. I wasn’t showing up for myself, and I definitely wasn’t showing up for the person I actually wanted to be. At the time, I didn’t call it a mental health struggle. I just called it a bad year. Looking back, I know it was more than that. What pulled me back wasn’t one single moment — it was a mix of things stacking up until I couldn’t ignore them anymore. Dance was one of them. Even on days my mind felt heavy, rehearsal didn’t stop for me to catch up. That structure forced me to keep showing up, and showing up, even when I didn’t feel like it, slowly became its own kind of medicine. My younger siblings were another piece of it. They look up to me in a way that used to feel like pressure, but eventually became purpose. I couldn’t keep sinking while knowing they were watching how I handled hard things. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I hit a point that genuinely scared me — a moment where I realized if I kept going the way I was going, I wasn’t going to like where I ended up. That fear became fuel. So I started rebuilding, piece by piece. I leaned back into dance, not just as a skill but as a place to put everything I was feeling. I started being more intentional about who I let influence me. I started thinking about my siblings not as pressure, but as a reason to keep choosing better, even on the days it would’ve been easier not to. That season of my life changed how I understand mental health entirely. I used to think struggling meant something was wrong with you. Now I understand struggling is just part of being human, and the real difference is what you do once you notice it. I don’t want to hide the fact that I went through something hard. I want to be honest about it, especially for my siblings, because I’d rather they see me struggle and recover than think I never struggled at all. That honesty is shaping where I want to go. My goal is to build a future where creativity and stability can exist side by side — where I can keep dance and movement as part of my life while also building something sustainable and secure. I want to go into a field where I can help create spaces, whether through teaching, mentorship, or community work, where mental health isn’t something people are ashamed of, but something people are equipped to understand and handle honestly. I know what it feels like to suffer in silence because it seemed easier than admitting something was wrong. I don’t want anyone else, especially the people who look up to me, to feel like they have to do the same.

I see myself as a positive force in my community through the way I show up for others, especially children, and through the service work I have done over the years. I believe that being a positive force does not always mean doing something huge. It can mean being patient, being kind, and being willing to help people who need support. My experiences as an assistant dance teacher and my volunteer work in my community have shaped the person I am becoming and the impact I want to make in the future. One of the main ways I contribute to my community is through working with children. As an assistant dance teacher, I help younger dancers learn new skills, build confidence, and feel proud of themselves. Some of the children I work with are on the spectrum, and supporting them has taught me how important it is to meet each child where they are. I learned how to encourage them when they felt unsure and how to celebrate their progress. These moments showed me that being a positive force can be as simple as believing in someone and helping them believe in themselves. I also serve my community through volunteering. With my dance team, I volunteered at Cradles to Crayons where we sorted clothes, cleaned toys and books, and prepared donations for children who needed basic essentials. I also volunteered at Philabundance, helping organize food for families facing food insecurity. These experiences opened my eyes to how many people struggle quietly and how important it is to support families who are doing their best with limited resources. Volunteering taught me that service is not about recognition. It is about compassion and the willingness to help because you care. Social norms have also shaped the way I think about my role in society. Growing up, I saw how people often expect young people to stay quiet or stay in the background. I learned that many people assume teenagers cannot make a real impact. These expectations motivated me to prove that young people can be leaders, helpers, and role models. Social norms also taught me the importance of empathy. In a world where people often judge others quickly, I learned to slow down, listen, and understand what someone might be going through. These values guide the way I treat others and the way I want to show up in my community. In the future, I plan to continue being a positive force by becoming a teacher. I want to create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged. I want to be the kind of teacher who notices when a child is struggling and takes the time to help them. I want to teach children not only academic skills but also confidence, kindness, and resilience. My goal is to help them believe in themselves the way my mentors and family believed in me. I believe that being a positive force in society starts with small actions and grows through consistency and compassion. Through teaching, volunteering, and supporting the people around me, I plan to continue making a meaningful impact on my community now and in the future.

Service has always been a natural part of my life because helping others is something that feels meaningful to me. I have learned that service does not have to be loud or dramatic. It can be simple, consistent, and rooted in kindness. The experiences I have had working with children and volunteering in my community have shaped the person I am becoming and the future I want to build. One of the main ways I embody a life of service is through my work as an assistant dance teacher. I have spent years helping younger dancers learn new skills, build confidence, and feel proud of themselves. Some of the children I worked with were on the spectrum, and supporting them taught me patience, understanding, and the importance of meeting each child where they are. I learned how to encourage them when they felt unsure and how to celebrate their progress. These moments showed me how powerful it is to be someone who believes in a child’s potential. Helping them grow made me realize that service can be as simple as showing up for someone who needs support. My service also extends into my community. I learned that service is not about receiving anything in return. It is about compassion and the willingness to help because you care. My own experiences with mental health have also shaped my desire to serve others. When I was younger, I went through a very difficult moment, and my grandmother stepped in and reminded me that my life mattered. Her support helped me understand how important it is to have someone who cares. That moment made me want to be a supportive presence for others, especially children who may not always know how to express what they are feeling. It taught me that service can also mean being emotionally present for someone who needs reassurance. My education will allow me to continue living a life of service by becoming a teacher. Service is part of who I am. Through teaching, volunteering, and supporting the people around me, I plan to continue making a positive impact on my community. My education will give me the tools to serve others in a deeper and more meaningful way, and I am committed to using it to help children grow into confident and capable individuals.

My mom has always been one of the strongest influences in my life, especially when it comes to education, responsibility, and ambition. She is a notary and owns her own business, and watching her build something from the ground up has shaped the way I think about my future. Even though she is not a veteran, her journey as a business owner has taught me many of the same lessons that this scholarship values. Her determination, independence, and commitment to serving others have inspired my educational and career goals in powerful ways. Growing up, I watched my mom manage her business with focus and confidence. She handled clients, paperwork, scheduling, and every detail that came with running a business. She never waited for opportunities to come to her. She created them. Seeing her work so hard showed me that success does not happen overnight. It comes from consistency, patience, and believing in yourself even when things get difficult. Her example taught me that I want to build a career that allows me to help others while also standing on my own two feet. My mom’s business also showed me the importance of serving the community. As a notary, she helps people with important documents and life decisions. She treats every client with respect and patience, and she always makes sure they understand what they are signing. Watching her interact with people taught me how important it is to be kind, clear, and supportive. These are qualities I want to bring into my own career as a future teacher. Her work ethic also shaped my educational journey. She always encouraged me to take school seriously and to stay focused on my goals. When I struggled, she reminded me that challenges do not mean failure. They mean growth. Her belief in me helped me stay motivated, especially during times when school felt overwhelming. She taught me that education is something no one can take away from you, and that it opens doors to opportunities you might not even see yet. Because of her influence, I want to become a teacher who inspires children the way she inspired me. I want to help students believe in themselves, stay confident, and understand that they can achieve anything with hard work and support. My mom’s entrepreneurial journey showed me that leadership is not about being perfect. It is about showing up, learning from mistakes, and continuing to move forward. I want to bring that same mindset into my classroom. My mom’s business taught me resilience, independence, and compassion. Her example shaped my goals and helped me understand the kind of person I want to be. I want to make a positive impact on the world by supporting children, encouraging them to grow, and helping them build confidence in themselves. Her journey as a business owner continues to inspire me every day, and it motivates me to work hard toward my future.

When I was around ten years old, I went through an experience that changed the way I understand life, mental health, and the importance of having people who care about you. At that age, I did not know how to handle the emotions I was feeling, and I reached a point where I felt overwhelmed and hopeless. In that moment, my grandmother found me and stopped me from making a decision that would have taken away the rest of my life. She told me that I had so much to live for and so much ahead of me. Even though I was young, her words stayed with me and became a turning point in my life. Growing up after that moment made me more aware of how important mental health is, especially for children who do not always know how to express what they are going through. It taught me that people can be struggling silently and that one caring voice can make a difference. My grandmother’s support helped me understand that I was not alone, and it inspired me to be someone who offers that same support to others. As I got older, I found myself drawn to helping children. I became a volunteer assistant dance teacher and worked with kids who had different personalities, abilities, and emotional needs. Some of the children I worked with were on the spectrum, and supporting them taught me patience, understanding, and how to create a safe environment where kids feel valued. I think part of the reason I connect so deeply with children is because I know what it feels like to need someone to notice you and care. My community service also shaped me. With my dance team, I volunteered at Cradles to Crayons and Philabundance, preparing donations for families in need. These experiences showed me how many people face challenges that others never see. It made me even more committed to being someone who brings kindness and stability to others. I learned that mental health is connected to everything, including stress, family struggles, confidence, and the support systems people have around them. Because of what I went through, I want to make a positive impact by becoming a teacher who understands that students carry emotional experiences with them. I want to be someone who notices when a child is struggling, someone who listens, and someone who helps them feel safe. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel supported both academically and emotionally. My experience with suicide at a young age shaped my compassion, my strength, and my desire to help others. It taught me that one caring person can change the direction of someone’s life. I want to be that person for my future students, just like my grandmother was for me.

Faith plays an important role in my life because it gives me direction, strength, and a sense of purpose. I grew up learning that faith is not only about religion, but also about believing in something greater than yourself and trusting that your life has meaning even when things feel uncertain. That understanding has shaped the way I approach school, relationships, and my future goals. Faith helps me stay grounded during stressful moments. As a student preparing to major in Early Childhood and Special Education, I know that my journey will include challenges. There will be difficult classes, long nights, and moments when I question myself. Faith reminds me that I am capable and that I am working toward something meaningful. It helps me stay focused on the bigger picture, which is becoming a teacher who makes a positive difference in the lives of young children. Faith also influences the way I treat others. I believe in kindness, patience, and leading with integrity. These values guide me in my work as an assistant teacher at the Jasmin Yahné School of Dance, where I support young children, including students with special needs. Faith teaches me to listen, to show compassion, and to lead with love. When a child is struggling, I try to be the person who encourages them and helps them feel safe. I want my future classroom to reflect those same values. Faith has shaped my academic goals by reminding me that education is not only about personal success. It is also about service. I want to use my degree to uplift my community, especially children who may not always feel seen or supported. I want to be the kind of teacher who inspires confidence, curiosity, and hope. Faith pushes me to think beyond myself and to imagine the impact I can have on others. Along with faith, the people in my life have played a major role in pushing me toward higher education. My family has always encouraged me to work hard and stay focused. They taught me that education is a path to independence and opportunity. My teachers and mentors have also inspired me by showing me what it looks like to lead with dedication and heart. Watching them care for their students and create welcoming learning environments made me want to follow in their footsteps. My experience working with children has also motivated me to pursue college. Every time I help a student understand something new or see them grow more confident, I am reminded of why I chose this path. Their joy and curiosity push me to keep going. They make me want to learn more and become the kind of educator who changes lives. Faith, family, and the students I work with have all shaped my goals and strengthened my commitment to education. They remind me that my purpose is bigger than myself. I want to honor that purpose by becoming a teacher who leads with love, patience, and integrity, just like the educators who inspired me. My experience with mental health has shaped the way I understand myself, the way I connect with others, and the goals I have for my future. Growing up, I learned that mental health is something many people struggle with quietly. I saw it in people I cared about, and I felt it in myself during moments when life felt overwhelming or confusing. Even when I did not have the words for it, I knew what it felt like to carry emotions that were heavy but hard to explain. In my community, especially within Black and Hispanic families, mental health is not always talked about openly. People are often expected to stay strong, push through, or keep their feelings to themselves. Because of that, I learned early on how easy it is for someone to look fine on the outside while dealing with a lot on the inside. That understanding made me more patient and more aware of how important it is to check on people, even when they seem okay. My own journey taught me to take my feelings seriously instead of ignoring them. I learned that it is okay to slow down, to ask for help, and to admit when something is hard. This shift changed the way I approach relationships. I try to be someone who listens without judgment and who makes others feel safe being honest. I’ve learned that small acts of kindness, like asking someone how they really are or giving them space to talk, can make a big difference. These experiences helped me build stronger, healthier connections with the people around me. My mental health journey has also shaped my goals as a future early childhood and special education teacher. Working with young children, including students with special needs, has shown me how deeply emotions affect learning. Kids feel everything intensely, even when they don’t have the vocabulary to express it. I want to be the kind of teacher who notices when a child is struggling, who creates a calm and supportive classroom, and who teaches students that their feelings matter. I want my classroom to be a place where children feel seen, understood, and valued. Understanding mental health has also changed the way I see the world. I realize now how many people carry invisible challenges and how important it is to treat others with empathy. Mental health struggles do not make someone weak. They make someone human. When we talk about mental health openly, we make it easier for people to ask for help and harder for shame to grow. Destigmatizing mental health means giving people permission to be honest about what they feel and reminding them that they are not alone. My journey has taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of emotional honesty. It has shaped the way I want to show up for my future students and the kind of impact I hope to make. I want to help create a world where mental health is taken seriously, where people feel supported, and where no one feels like they have to hide their struggles. That is the kind of teacher, and the kind of person, I am working to become.

I plan to make a positive impact on the world by dedicating my life to supporting children and helping them grow with confidence, kindness, and stability. My experiences working with kids and volunteering in my community have shown me how powerful it is when someone takes the time to care. I want to be that person for the next generation. My goal is to become an elementary school teacher who creates a safe and encouraging environment where every child feels valued and capable. My passion for helping others started with my volunteer work as an assistant dance teacher. I have spent years working with younger dancers, guiding them through routines, helping them build confidence, and supporting them when they felt frustrated or unsure of themselves. Some of the children I worked with were also on the spectrum, and supporting them taught me patience, understanding, and the importance of adapting to each child’s needs. Seeing them grow and open up made me realize how much of a difference one caring person can make in a child’s life. My community service outside of dance also shaped my desire to make a positive impact. With my dance team, I volunteered at Cradles to Crayons where we sorted clothes, cleaned books and toys, and prepared donations for children who needed basic essentials. I also volunteered at Philabundance, helping organize food donations for families facing food insecurity. These experiences opened my eyes to how many children and families struggle with things that many people never think twice about. It made me want to be someone who helps fill those gaps, whether through education, support, or community involvement. Being homeschooled also influenced my desire to help others. Learning online taught me independence and responsibility, but it also showed me how important it is to have adults who support you when things get difficult. There were times when school felt overwhelming, and I had to learn how to advocate for myself and stay motivated. Those experiences helped me understand how much children need teachers who notice when they are struggling and who take the time to guide them. I want to be that kind of teacher. My plan to make a positive impact on the world is simple but meaningful. I want to help children feel seen, supported, and capable from the very beginning of their educational journey. I want to create a classroom where students feel safe to express themselves and confident enough to try new things. I want to be someone who encourages them, listens to them, and helps them believe in their own potential. I believe that making a difference starts with small acts of kindness and grows through consistent care and dedication. Through teaching, volunteering, and serving my community, I hope to continue spreading compassion and helping children build strong foundations for their futures. That is how I plan to make a positive impact on the world.

My drive to become a teacher comes from the experiences I have had working with children and seeing how much they grow when someone believes in them. For years, I have volunteered as an assistant dance teacher, helping younger dancers learn new skills, build confidence, and feel proud of themselves. Some of the children I worked with were also on the spectrum, and supporting them taught me patience, understanding, and the importance of meeting each child where they are. Watching them open up and succeed made me realize how much I want to spend my life helping children feel capable and supported. Teaching younger dancers showed me that children need more than instructions. They need encouragement, consistency, and someone who understands their emotions. I learned how to adjust my approach depending on the child, especially when they communicated or learned differently. Seeing their progress made me feel proud, but it also made me understand how powerful a teacher’s influence can be. Those moments are what first sparked my passion for becoming an educator. My drive also comes from the community service I have done outside of dance. With my dance team, I volunteered at Cradles to Crayons where we sorted clothes, cleaned books and toys, and prepared donations for children who needed basic essentials. I also volunteered at Philabundance, helping sort and organize food for families facing food insecurity. These experiences opened my eyes to how many children struggle with things that many people take for granted. It made me want to be someone who not only teaches but also supports children and their families in meaningful ways. Being homeschooled also shaped my desire to teach. Learning online taught me independence, responsibility, and how to advocate for myself when I needed help. There were times when school felt overwhelming, and I had to learn how to stay motivated and organized on my own. Those experiences helped me understand how important it is for children to have teachers who notice when they are struggling and who take the time to guide them. I want to be that kind of teacher for my future students. My passion for early childhood education comes from all of these experiences combined. I have seen how much children can grow when they feel supported, and I want to be someone who helps them build confidence from the very beginning of their educational journey. Teaching is not just a career choice for me. It is something I feel deeply connected to. I want to inspire children the way my coaches and mentors inspired me. I want to create a classroom where every child feels valued, understood, and excited to learn. My drive to become a teacher comes from the joy I feel when helping children grow and the belief that every child deserves someone who will support them with patience and care. I want to honor that responsibility and make a positive impact on the next generation.

For my educational poster, I chose the Visual Arts Standard VA:Cr1.1, which focuses on understanding color relationships and how artists use color to communicate ideas. I selected this standard because color theory is one of the most important foundations in early art education. When students understand how colors relate to one another, they gain confidence in their creativity and begin to see art as something they can explore, not something they have to “get right.” My poster teaches primary, secondary, and tertiary colors in a way that is simple, clear, and visually engaging for K–12 learners. The design of my poster centers around a bright, organized color wheel. I used bold, saturated colors to immediately capture students’ attention and help them distinguish between each category. The primary colors are placed at the top with clear labels explaining that they cannot be mixed with other colors. This gives students a strong starting point. Below them, the secondary colors are shown with short explanations of which primary colors combine to create them. Finally, the tertiary colors are arranged around the wheel to show how each one is formed by mixing a primary color with a neighboring secondary color. This layout helps students visually follow the progression from simple to more complex color relationships. Color theory plays a major role in how students learn from this poster. Young learners respond strongly to bright, contrasting visuals, so I made sure each color stands out clearly. The wheel format also helps students understand that colors exist in a system, not randomly. By placing related colors next to each other, students can see patterns and begin to predict how mixing works. This supports both comprehension and long‑term retention. Typography and layout were also important choices. I used simple, easy‑to‑read text so students can quickly connect the labels to the visuals. The poster is divided into sections with short explanations, making it accessible for early readers and students who may struggle with processing large amounts of text. The clean layout prevents visual overload and keeps the focus on the color relationships themselves. Visual learning is essential in modern K–12 classrooms because students learn in many different ways. Some understand concepts through words, but many need images, color, and structure to fully grasp new ideas. Visual tools help break down complex information and make learning more inclusive. As someone who works with young children and students with special needs, I have seen how quickly a visual can turn confusion into understanding. A poster like this gives students a clear, concrete reference that supports their learning and encourages creativity. My goal as a future educator is to create classrooms where learning feels accessible, engaging, and joyful. This poster reflects the kind of teacher I want to be: someone who uses visual tools, creativity, and thoughtful design to help every child understand and succeed.

I am passionate about becoming a special education teacher because I believe every child deserves to feel understood, supported, and capable. Working with students who have special needs has shown me how powerful patience, creativity, and compassion can be. Since 2022, I have been an assistant teacher at the Jasmin Yahné School of Dance, where I help young children of all abilities, including students with autism and other learning differences. Being in that environment has shaped the way I see teaching. It is not simply a career. It is a calling that requires heart, flexibility, and a deep belief in the potential of every child. The quote from Professor Harold Bloom states that the purpose of teaching is to bring the student to a sense of their own presence. To me, this means helping students recognize their own worth, identity, and ability to grow. It means guiding them toward the understanding that they matter, that their voice has value, and that they belong in every space they enter. A sense of presence is the moment a child realizes they are not defined by their challenges, but by their strengths, their effort, and their unique way of learning. For students with special needs, this sense of presence is especially important. Many of them face environments where they feel misunderstood or underestimated. My mission as a future special education teacher is to create a classroom where students feel seen and celebrated. I want my students to understand that their learning style is not a limitation. It is simply a different path, and I am there to walk that path with them. I plan to guide my students toward this sense of presence through patience, individualized support, and genuine connection. I want to learn who they are, what motivates them, and what brings them joy. I want to build lessons that match their strengths and help them grow at their own pace. I want to create a classroom where mistakes are not failures, but stepping stones. Most of all, I want my students to feel safe enough to express themselves, try new things, and trust that I am on their side. The donor describes special education teachers as needing the craftiness of Odysseus, the flexibility of a jellyfish, the patience of Mother Teresa, and the focus of a monk. I understand this deeply. Working with children who have special needs requires constant adaptation. One moment you are adjusting a lesson, the next you are calming a student, and the next you are celebrating a small victory that means everything. It requires emotional strength, creativity, and a steady heart. I have learned these qualities through my teaching experience, and I am committed to growing them even more as I enter this profession. I also understand the importance of love in this work. Not the unconditional love that comes from family, but the love that comes from choosing to show up every day with kindness, respect, and belief in your students. I want to be the teacher who sees potential where others see limits. I want to be the teacher who listens, who adapts, and who never gives up on a child. My students will know that they matter, not because I say it, but because I show it in every interaction. Fairy Tale Section: In my own story, I imagine myself as a young heroine named Lani who enters a kingdom where every child has a different kind of magic. Some children glow brightly, some flicker softly, and some shine in ways that others cannot see. The kingdom is full of challenges, but also full of possibilities. My mission is to help each child discover their magic and learn how to use it with confidence. I travel through classrooms that feel like forests, oceans, and mountains. I learn to speak the language of patience, the rhythm of encouragement, and the music of understanding. Each time a child discovers their magic, the kingdom grows brighter. By the end of my journey, I realized that I did not give the children their magic. I simply helped them see it for themselves. That is the kind of teacher I want to be in real life. A guide. A supporter. A light.

My passion for early childhood education comes from the years I have spent working with young children and seeing how much they grow when they feel supported. I have been a volunteer assistant dance teacher for several years, and during that time I have worked with kids of all different personalities, strengths, and challenges. Helping them learn new skills, build confidence, and feel proud of themselves made me realize how much I want to dedicate my life to working with children. Every moment I spend teaching them reminds me that early childhood is a powerful stage where encouragement and patience can shape a child’s future. Working with younger dancers taught me that children need more than instruction. They need someone who listens, someone who understands their emotions, and someone who believes in them even when they doubt themselves. I have seen shy kids slowly open up, energetic kids learn discipline, and frustrated kids find confidence after finally mastering a step they thought they could never do. Being part of those moments made me realize how much I want to help children grow not only academically but emotionally. That is what inspired me to pursue early childhood education. I want to become an elementary school teacher because I believe that the early years of learning set the foundation for everything that comes after. Children deserve teachers who are patient, caring, and willing to meet them where they are. I want to create a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. My goal is to help children build confidence in themselves and understand that they are capable of achieving great things. I want to be the kind of teacher who notices when a child is struggling and takes the time to help them feel seen and understood. My experience as a homeschooled student also shaped my passion for teaching. Learning online taught me independence, responsibility, and the importance of communication. There were times when school felt overwhelming, and I had to learn how to ask for help and stay motivated on my own. Those experiences helped me understand how important it is for children to have adults who support them and guide them through challenges. I want to be that support for my future students. The work I have done with my dance kids showed me how much joy there is in helping children grow. It also showed me how much impact one person can have on a child’s confidence and development. Early childhood education is not just a career path for me. It is something I feel deeply connected to. I want to spend my life helping children feel capable, valued, and encouraged from the very beginning of their educational journey.

Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and my dance coach has played a huge role in shaping the person I am today. Even though dance is different from traditional sports, the discipline, teamwork, and physical effort are just as real. My coach has always pushed me to give my best, not only in the studio but in the way I carry myself outside of it. One moment in particular changed me and helped me grow into someone stronger and more confident. There was a time when I was struggling with a routine that felt too difficult. I kept messing up the same part and started to doubt myself. I felt embarrassed and frustrated, and I wanted to give up. My coach noticed how discouraged I was and pulled me aside. She told me that mistakes do not define me and that progress comes from patience and effort. She reminded me that she believed in me even when I did not believe in myself. Instead of letting me quit, she worked with me step by step until I finally got it. That moment taught me that challenges are not signs to stop. They are chances to grow. Her support changed the way I approach everything. I learned how to stay calm when things get hard and how to keep trying even when I feel stuck. I also learned how important it is to lift others up. My coach always made sure every dancer felt seen and supported, and I try to do the same when I help the younger dancers. I want them to feel encouraged the way she encouraged me. I want them to know that someone believes in them. I try to embody the traits that made my coach so impactful. I show ambition by setting goals for myself and working toward them. I show heart by being patient and supportive with the younger dancers I assist. I show strength by pushing through challenges instead of running from them. These qualities guide me in dance, in school, and in my future plans. I want to become an elementary school teacher, and the lessons I learned from my coach will stay with me in that career. She taught me how powerful it is when an adult believes in you. She taught me that kindness and patience can change someone’s life. I want to bring that same energy into my classroom one day. I want to help children feel capable and confident, just like she helped me. My coach helped me grow into someone who does not give up easily and who wants to make a positive impact on others. I carry her lessons with me every day, and I hope to pass them on to the next generation.

Attending high school online shaped me in ways that changed my heart and my mindset for the better. Since I have been in virtual school since second grade, I grew up learning how to be independent and responsible. I did not have the usual classroom environment or the daily face to face interactions that most students experience. Instead, I had to learn how to motivate myself, manage my time, and stay focused even when things felt repetitive or isolating. Over time, these challenges helped me grow into someone who is disciplined, patient, and determined. The positive changes I experienced through online learning continue to guide me as I plan for my future. My future plans begin with earning my degree in education. I want to become an elementary school teacher because I care about helping children feel supported and confident. While I am in college, I plan to join tutoring programs and volunteer with youth organizations so I can gain more experience working with kids. I want to understand how children learn and how to support them emotionally and academically. After graduation, I hope to teach in a community that needs caring and patient educators. My goal is to help students believe in themselves and feel capable from the very beginning of their education. A moment that changed my heart happened during a time when online school felt overwhelming. I was struggling to keep up with assignments and felt disconnected from everything. One of my teachers reached out to me and reminded me that it was okay to ask for help. She encouraged me to communicate more and to trust that people wanted to support me. That conversation stayed with me. It taught me that even in an online setting, connection matters. It also showed me how powerful it is when an educator takes the time to check in. Her kindness helped me regain my confidence and reminded me that I was not alone. The lessons I learned through online school continue to shape who I am. I learned how to stay organized, how to push through challenges, and how to be patient with myself. I also learned the importance of compassion and communication. These experiences helped me grow into someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children. My high school years changed my heart by teaching me strength, independence, and empathy, and I plan to carry those lessons with me into college and beyond.

My future goals start with earning my degree in education and becoming an elementary school teacher. While I am in college, I want to focus on learning how to support children academically and emotionally, especially those who come from communities like mine. I plan to get involved in tutoring programs, volunteer work, and any opportunities that let me work with kids. I want to build real experience so that by the time I graduate, I am ready to step into a classroom and make a difference. After college, my goal is to return to a community that needs patient and caring educators. I want to teach in a school where students may not always have the resources or support they deserve. I want to be the kind of teacher who helps children feel confident, capable, and understood. I believe that early education shapes the way a child sees themselves, and I want to help them build a strong foundation that will follow them through the rest of their lives. My community service background comes from the years I have spent helping younger dancers at my studio. Every Saturday, I assist with classes, guide the kids through warmups, help them learn routines, and support them when they get frustrated or nervous. Over the years, this has added up to well over one hundred hours of service. It has taught me patience, leadership, and how to communicate with children in a way that makes them feel safe and encouraged. I have seen shy kids open up, energetic kids learn discipline, and discouraged kids find confidence. Being part of their growth is what made me realize that I want to work with children for the rest of my life. I plan to continue serving my community throughout college and beyond. I want to volunteer in after school programs, youth centers, and tutoring groups. I want to keep giving my time to young people who need guidance and support. Service is not something I do for a requirement. It is something that has shaped who I am and who I want to become. Helping children grow has always felt natural to me, and I want to carry that with me into my career. This scholarship would help me move forward with my goals without placing more financial stress on my family. College is expensive, and I will need support to cover tuition, books, and other costs. I am determined to work hard and stay focused, but financial help would make a real difference in my ability to stay on track. I want to continue serving my community while also building a future for myself, and this scholarship would help me do both.

Growing up in Philadelphia, one problem I’ve seen over and over again is how many young children struggle because they don’t have consistent support, patience, or guidance in their early years. Whether it’s overcrowded classrooms, stressed families, or limited resources, kids often end up carrying emotional and academic challenges that follow them for years. Watching this happen around me made me realize how much early childhood experiences shape a child’s confidence, behavior, and belief in themselves. This is the problem that concerns me the most, and it’s the reason I want to become an elementary educator. I’ve already had the chance to see how powerful early support can be. As a volunteer assistant dance teacher, I work with younger dancers who come in with all kinds of personalities, strengths, and struggles. Some are shy, some are energetic, some get frustrated easily, and some just need someone to believe in them. I’ve learned how to encourage them, how to redirect behavior with patience, and how to help them feel proud of themselves. Even though it’s not a classroom, it taught me how much children thrive when someone shows compassion and consistency. It also showed me how many kids don’t get that outside of spaces like dance. I want to be part of the solution by becoming an elementary school teacher who creates a safe, supportive environment for children who might not get that anywhere else. I want to help kids recognize their strengths early, understand their emotions, and feel capable of learning. I believe that when children feel seen and supported, they grow into confident students and stronger members of their communities. My goal is to use my education to give back to the same kinds of neighborhoods I grew up in, where many families face financial stress and limited access to resources. Financial need is a major barrier for me as I work toward this goal. My family does not have the ability to cover the cost of college, and I will need to rely on scholarships, financial aid, and part‑time work to afford my education. For the upcoming school year, my projected costs include tuition, books, transportation, and basic living expenses. I expect to receive some federal aid, but it will not be enough to cover everything. My family can contribute only a small amount, and I will need to take on loans and work while studying. A scholarship like this would reduce the financial pressure on my family and allow me to focus more on my education and training. I want to become a teacher who brings compassion, integrity, and perseverance into every classroom I step into. I want to help children feel capable, valued, and supported from the very beginning of their education. This scholarship would not only help me afford college, it would help me become the kind of educator who can make a real difference in my community.
