Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household taught me lessons I did not understand as a child. My mother raised me through financial hardship, personal struggles, and situations that were physically and verbally abusive. I watched my friends have things and experiences I could not, and for a long time, I wondered why my life had to be different. I felt the weight of what we lacked before I understood the sacrifices behind it. As I have grown, that hurt has become gratitude. I now see a mother who, despite everything she faced, always made me her priority. She gave me everything she could, even when it meant going without herself. I wish I could have protected her from what she endured, but I cannot change our past. I can choose what I do with it. My experiences have given me a deeper understanding of people and the circumstances that shape them. They are part of why I am pursuing criminal justice, with the goal of becoming a sworn police officer and eventually a criminal behavior analyst. I want to understand not only why people commit crimes, but what experiences can influence their choices. I am working toward this future through my education and by learning more about criminal justice and human behavior. I want to serve my community with strength and compassion, especially toward people whose struggles may not be visible. I used to wish my childhood had been different. Now, I am grateful for the strength it gave me. I cannot change what my mother endured, but I can make her sacrifices meaningful by turning what we survived into a life dedicated to helping others.

I want to become a police officer because I want to make a difference in people’s lives when they need someone to step up. To me, being a police officer is more than enforcing laws. It is about protecting people, serving a community, and being someone others can rely on during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I want a career where my actions have a real purpose and where I can contribute to making my community safer. My interest in criminal justice became even stronger during my first year of college. In one of my criminal justice classes, my professor gave a lecture about September 11, 2001. What made the lecture especially meaningful was that she had been working for the FBI during 9/11 and was able to share her personal experience of that day. Hearing her talk about what she witnessed and the role law enforcement played during such a tragic moment made the field feel much more real to me. I was not just learning about criminal justice from a textbook; I was hearing from someone who had experienced the importance and responsibility of the profession firsthand. Her story stayed with me and made me realize that I wanted to pursue this field even further. I have always been interested in understanding people and what influences their behavior. This interest has led me toward my long-term goal of becoming a criminal behavior analyst. I want to understand not only what crime happens, but why it happens. I am interested in the experiences, choices, patterns, and circumstances that can influence someone to commit a crime. However, I do not want to learn about criminal behavior only through a classroom. I want to experience law enforcement firsthand. Becoming a sworn police officer would allow me to work directly with people and understand the realities of crime and its impact on a community. I would have the opportunity to learn from real situations, interact with victims and suspects, assist with investigations, and develop the ability to remain calm and make thoughtful decisions under pressure. I believe those experiences would make me a stronger future criminal behavior analyst because I would understand the people and situations behind the information I analyze. Most importantly, I want to become a police officer because I want to help people. I know officers often meet people on some of the worst days of their lives, and I want to be someone who can bring professionalism, compassion, and stability into those situations. I understand that this career requires integrity, courage, accountability, and the ability to treat people fairly, and these are qualities I want to continue developing throughout my career. My goal is not simply to wear a badge. I want to earn the trust that comes with it. I want to serve my community, protect others, and use my understanding of criminal behavior to help prevent crime and make a lasting difference. My professor’s story showed me the impact one person can have through a career in criminal justice, and it strengthened my desire to pursue that same path. Becoming a sworn police officer is the first step toward the career I envision for myself, and I am committed to putting in the work to become an officer who serves with both strength and compassion.

Music has a way of saying things I don’t always know how to explain myself, and songs by Olivia Rodrigo feel especially real to me. The lyric “push away all the people who know me the best” from making the bed honestly describes something I struggle with a lot. It’s not just being alone, it’s feeling alone even when there are chances not to be. There are times where I feel like I don’t really have friends or like I don’t belong anywhere, and that kind of loneliness makes everything harder. It’s hard to feel happy or motivated or even excited about the future when it feels like you’re going through everything by yourself. And then when people do try to come into my life, I don’t always let them. I push them away because it feels like they’re only there because they feel bad for me, or because I’m just the last option. It’s like I convince myself it’s not real before it even has the chance to be. And even though I know that probably isn’t always true, it still feels real in the moment. So I end up stuck in this cycle where I want connection, but I also don’t trust it. The lyric “my stomach’s all in knots, you got the one thing that I want” from lacy feels just as personal, but in a different way. It’s that constant comparison, looking at other people and feeling like they have everything I’m trying so hard to get. Whether it’s confidence, friendships, or just being genuinely happy, it feels like it comes so easily to everyone else. Meanwhile, I’m putting in effort every day just to feel okay, and it still doesn’t feel like enough. That feeling can make it hard to appreciate anything in my own life, because I’m always focused on what I don’t have. It’s frustrating, and it messes with how I see myself. Both of these lyrics connect to this bigger struggle of feeling like I’m always just a little behind or a little out of place. Wanting connection but pushing it away. Trying to be better but feeling like everyone else already is. It’s not something that just fixes overnight, but I think recognizing it is part of figuring it out. Even if it doesn’t feel like it yet, there’s still a part of me that hopes I won’t always feel this way.

My personal experience with loss has been one of the most significant factors inspiring me to pursue a career in the mental health field. I lost a family member in a tragic house fire, an event that deeply impacted my life and the lives of those around me. The loss was sudden and devastating, and I not only had to process my own grief, but I also witnessed my family fall apart under the weight of it. Seeing the people I love struggle so intensely made me realize how overwhelming loss can be when there is not enough emotional support or understanding. This experience pushed me into one of the most severe depressive episodes I have faced, and it changed my perspective on the importance of mental health care. In addition to this loss, I have struggled with mental health challenges for most of my life. I have lived with chronic anxiety since I was a young child, and for the past six years, I have battled depression. During my lowest points, depression has made even the simplest tasks feel impossible. There were times when I stayed in bed for days, unable to find the energy or motivation to get up. I lost my appetite and went without eating, and I distanced myself from friends and social interactions. I felt overwhelming loneliness and a deep sense of worthlessness, as if I had no purpose or place. Those moments were some of the hardest I have ever faced, but they also gave me a profound understanding of how isolating mental health struggles can be. These experiences have directly shaped my career aspirations. I plan to pursue a career in psychology, specifically in criminal psychology, where I can help individuals who are often ignored or misunderstood. Many people within the criminal justice system struggle with untreated mental health issues, trauma, or loss, yet they are often only seen for their actions rather than their experiences. My own struggles have taught me that helping others is not just important—it is necessary. I want to be someone who listens, understands, and advocates for those who feel overlooked, especially in systems where compassion is often lacking. My goal is to help create change by addressing the root causes of behavior and promoting both accountability and rehabilitation. I believe I can make a difference in suicide prevention because I understand, on a personal level, what it feels like to be in a place where hope is difficult to find. I know what it is like to feel trapped in your own mind, to question your worth, and to believe that things may never get better. Because of this, I can approach others with genuine empathy, patience, and without judgment. I want to help create safe spaces where people feel comfortable opening up about their struggles before they reach a crisis point. I also hope to advocate for greater awareness, early intervention, and access to mental health resources so fewer people feel alone in their pain. Overall, my experiences with loss and mental health have given me both motivation and purpose. They have shaped my desire to enter the mental health field and have guided my career aspirations toward helping those who are often overlooked. Through my work, I hope to make a meaningful difference by supporting individuals in their darkest moments and helping them find hope and a path forward.

A college degree will change the trajectory of my life by opening opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. Growing up, I’ve understood that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating stability and independence and I have focuses tremendously on my academics all throughout school. By earning a degree, I will be able to pursue a meaningful and specialized career instead of settling for limited options. My goal is to work in criminal psychology, where I can contribute to understanding criminal behavior and supporting efforts to prevent crime. A college education will provide me with the knowledge, skills, and credibility needed to enter this field and make a real impact. The effects of earning a degree will extend beyond just my own life. For my family and future generations, it represents a shift in what is possible. I want to set an example that higher education is achievable with dedication and hard work. By doing so, I hope to inspire those around me—whether it’s siblings, relatives, or my future children—to pursue their own goals with confidence. I don't want anyone to have the mindset that it's "not possible." Additionally, a college degree can lead to greater financial security, which creates opportunities for a better quality of life and access to resources that can benefit generations to come. As a young child up until now my family has dealt with great financial stress, and one of my biggest dreams is to take that weight off the family I have of my own. It is not just an investment in myself, but in the future of my family. On a personal level, a college degree would mean accomplishment, growth, and independence. It would symbolize years of discipline, perseverance, and commitment to my goals. Showing that my years of hard work has paid off would give me a sense of great accomplishment and would prove to myself that I am capable. I value the idea of pushing myself beyond my comfort zone and proving that I can succeed in a challenging environment. Earning a degree is not just about academics for me—it is about becoming a stronger, more capable individual who is prepared to face real-world challenges. I am deeply passionate about criminal psychology because I want to understand the “why” behind human behavior, especially in extreme situations. I am interested in how mental processes, environment, and life experiences can influence someone’s actions. This passion comes from a genuine curiosity about people and a desire to contribute to solutions that can make communities safer. I am particularly interested in working within a police department, where I could apply psychological knowledge to real cases and help bridge the gap between mental health and law enforcement. To pursue this passion, I have taken initiative by researching career paths, learning about the educational requirements, and staying focused on long-term goals. I have worked on developing discipline and consistency in my daily life, understanding that these habits are essential for success in college and beyond. I have also made an effort to stay informed about topics related to psychology and criminal behavior, building a foundation of knowledge that I can expand upon in my formal education. Overall, earning a college degree represents opportunity, purpose, and progress. It is a step toward achieving my career goals, creating a better future for my family, and becoming someone who can make a meaningful difference in the world.

I plan to use my education to support people in my community who feel overlooked, misunderstood, or like no one is truly on their side. By pursuing two bachelor’s degrees—one in psychology and one in criminal justice—I am preparing myself to understand both how people think and behave, and how the systems around them respond. My ultimate goal is to become a criminal psychologist, ideally working within a police department, where I can help make real-time decisions more informed, compassionate, and effective. This goal is deeply personal to me. I know what it feels like to go through something difficult and not have clear answers, to feel unheard, and to have to advocate for yourself even when it’s exhausting. Those experiences have shaped how I see others. I don’t just see actions, I see the possibility that there is always more going on beneath the surface. That perspective is what drives me toward this career. In my future role, I want to help people who are struggling with mental health challenges, trauma, or overwhelming life circumstances, especially those who end up in the criminal justice system. Too often, people are judged only by their worst moments, without considering what led them there. With my background in psychology, I want to help uncover those underlying factors, while my knowledge of criminal justice will allow me to work within the system to advocate for fair and informed outcomes. Working in a police department is especially important to me because those are the moments where understanding can make the biggest difference. Situations involving crisis, fear, or mental distress can escalate quickly, and I want to be someone who helps de-escalate them. Whether it’s assisting officers in understanding behavior, helping communicate with someone in distress, or contributing to better decision-making under pressure, I want my role to make situations safer for everyone involved. I also want to help rebuild trust between communities and the systems meant to protect them. There are many people who feel like they are not heard or understood, and that lack of trust can have lasting effects. I want to be someone who listens, who looks deeper, and who helps ensure that people are treated with both fairness and humanity. Beyond my career, I hope to give back by raising awareness about mental health and encouraging open conversations in my community. I believe that the more people understand about behavior and mental health, the more supportive and proactive we can become as a society. At the end of the day, my goal is simple: I want to help people who feel like no one else will. My education in psychology and criminal justice will give me the tools to do that, but my personal experiences have given me the passion. I’m not just pursuing a career, but I’m working toward becoming someone who can make a real difference when it matters most.

After graduation, I plan to attend the University of Northern Colorado to get two bachelors degrees in psychology and criminal justice with the end goal of being a criminal psychologist. This allows me to work in a field where I can understand and support individuals who feel unheard or overlooked. I am especially interested in studying behavior, mental processes, and the underlying causes of actions, particularly in high-stress or traumatic situations. Ultimately, I hope to use my education to help people navigate difficult circumstances and advocate for those who feel like no one is on their side. My high school experience has played a significant role in preparing me for this path. I have intentionally built an academic schedule that challenges me and aligns with my future goals. Throughout high school, I have taken several college-level courses that directly relate to my intended field of study, including Psychology I and II, Sociology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Criminology, and Personality Psychology. These courses not only counted toward my future college degree, but also gave me a strong academic foundation before even graduating high school. Through these classes, I have developed a deeper understanding of human behavior and the many factors that influence it. For example, studying abnormal psychology allowed me to explore mental health disorders and how they affect individuals’ thoughts and actions. In criminology, I learned about the social and psychological factors that contribute to criminal behavior. Each class built on the last, giving me a more complete perspective and strengthening my passion for this field. In addition to my college-level coursework, I chose to take an honors psychology class to further expand my knowledge. In this class, I was given the opportunity to conduct my own research project and present my findings. I chose to focus on the causes of suicidal tendencies and prevention strategies, a topic that requires both sensitivity and a strong understanding of psychological principles. I spent a significant amount of time researching contributing factors such as mental health conditions, environmental influences, and social pressures, as well as effective methods of prevention and intervention. This project was one of the most meaningful academic experiences I have had. Not only did it challenge me to think critically and analyze complex information, but it also allowed me to apply what I had learned in a real-world context. Presenting my research to my community was especially impactful, as it gave me the opportunity to raise awareness about an important issue and use my voice to inform others. It showed me that the knowledge I am gaining can have a direct and meaningful impact on people’s lives. Overall, my uniquely tailored academic experience has allowed me to take control of my education and move intentionally toward my goals. By taking advanced coursework, pursuing independent research, and challenging myself academically, I have built both the knowledge and the confidence needed to succeed in my future studies. As I move forward into college, I am prepared to continue this path with determination and purpose. My high school experience has not only given me a head start academically, but has also reinforced my passion for criminal psychology and my commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

At the beginning of my sophomore year of high school, I was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disorder and a horseshoe kidney—conditions that have significantly impacted my daily life. My kidneys have structural abnormalities, including extra tissue that should not be there, which leads to chronic pain and frequent episodes of severe vomiting. What started as confusion and unexplained symptoms quickly turned into a long and difficult journey of hospital stays, surgeries, and learning how to live with a condition that does not simply go away. For a long time, doctors struggled to identify what was wrong. I would be in constant pain, sometimes vomiting for days at a time, yet test results would come back normal. That uncertainty was one of the hardest parts. It made me feel defeated, like I was fighting something invisible that no one else could fully understand. However, even during those moments, I continued to advocate for myself. I learned to trust my own experiences and speak up, even when it was difficult. My condition has caused me to miss months of school at a time. I have spent weeks in hospital beds, watching my friends’ lives continue through social media while mine felt paused. I missed important milestones, time with friends, and the normal high school experiences many people take for granted. Despite that, my education never stopped. I often found myself Zooming into classes directly from a hospital bed, sometimes even recovering from surgery. Assignments would pile up, weeks’ worth of work, including dual enrollment college courses, but I remained determined to keep going. Communication became essential to my success. Since I could not always be physically present, I had to learn how to stay connected with teachers, manage my workload independently, and take responsibility for my education in a way that went beyond what was expected. Through it all, I maintained a 4.0 GPA and continued to challenge myself by taking honors and college-level courses. This experience taught me discipline, resilience, and how to persevere even when circumstances are far from ideal. Living with this condition has also changed my life outside of academics. I had to give up contact sports and be constantly aware of my physical limitations. I have undergone over seven surgeries, each one bringing both hope and uncertainty. Despite everything, I refused to let my condition define my future. Instead, it has shaped my purpose. Experiencing pain, uncertainty, and the feeling of not being fully understood has given me a deep sense of empathy for others who are struggling. While I will not be pursuing a career in the medical field, I am determined to help people in a different way. I plan to study criminal psychology so I can work with individuals who feel unheard or overlooked, and help them navigate their challenges when it feels like no one else will. This journey has been incredibly difficult, but it has made me stronger, more determined, and more compassionate. I have learned how to fight for myself, and in the future, I will use that strength to fight for others.

Strength isn't about having an easy life—it’s about choosing to keep going even when everything feels stacked against you. This is why Jack Terry's story inspires me. His resilience and determination stand out to me because they reflect a mindset I’ve had to develop in my own life: no matter where you come from or what you face, you still have the power to decide who you become. In my own life, I’ve had to deal with challenges that pushed me to grow up faster than I expected. There have been times where I felt frustrated, overwhelmed, and even discouraged, especially when I compared my situation to others around me. It’s hard not to notice when your life looks different from your peers, and for a while, that really affected how I saw myself. I don't come from a wealthy family, I don't live in a nice home, or have the life that everyone dreams of. I struggle financially, mentally and even physically with everyday life sometimes. As a young child I had to be responsible, and be a good example to everyone around me. I was always the good student in school and stayed out of trouble. At home, I often had to take care of my little sister and take on tremendous responsibility. I felt like I had constant pressure on me to be perfect. Over time, I started to realize that those feelings didn’t have to hold me back—they could push me forward and make me try even harder. One of the biggest adversities I’ve faced is learning how to become independent at a young age. I’ve had to take on responsibilities and figure things out on my own, even when I didn’t feel fully ready. At times, it felt overwhelming balancing everything while still trying to focus on school and my future. But those experiences taught me resilience in a way nothing else could. I’ve learned how to stay disciplined, how to keep going even when I feel unsure, and how to trust myself to handle difficult situations. More than anything, I’ve learned that adversity can either make you feel stuck or help you grow, but it depends on your mindset. I’ve chosen to see my challenges as something that is preparing me for my future rather than holding me back from it. They’ve made me stronger, more aware, and more determined to create a better life for myself. As I prepare to start college and pursue a degree in criminal psychology, I want to use both my education and my personal experiences to give back to society. I’m especially interested in working with people who feel like they don’t have a voice or who are stuck in difficult situations. I want to understand why people make the choices they do and use that knowledge to help create real change, whether that’s helping within a police department or working with individuals who need guidance and support. I want to be someone who listens, understands, and helps others find a better path forward. I believe that my own experiences have given me a level of empathy that will allow me to connect with people in a meaningful way. Jack Terry’s story reminds me that challenges don’t have to limit you, they can shape you into who you’re meant to become. My experiences have taught me to move forward, even when things are difficult. I am determined to take those lessons with me into my future and use them not only to better my own life, but to make a positive impact on others as well.

My personal experiences with money have been shaped by growing up in a household where finances aren’t always stable. There have been times when my family has struggled to pay for basic things like food, bills, gas, and even medical expenses. I also have had to let my family borrow my own money just to make a payment. Because of that, I learned pretty early that money isn’t something to take for granted, and that it can affect almost every part of your life. As I take this next step toward college, I don't want finances to be a huge stressor in my life, I want to feel content and successful as I step toward my future. When I was younger, I used to get upset with my parents because we didn’t always have the same things as my friends. We didn’t have the nicest house or the newest stuff, and at the time it made me feel left out. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to see those experiences differently. They’ve made me more aware, more motivated, and more determined to work for the kind of life I want instead of expecting it. I’ve had a job since I was 15, and for almost four years now I’ve been paying for my own gas and most of my personal expenses like clothes, eating out, subscriptions, and any fun things I choose to do independently. While I do get some help from my family, I mostly rely on myself. Last year, I also started making monthly payments toward a trip to Greece in spring 2027, which has taught me how to stay committed and plan ahead. This was a step that showed me how to be smart with my money. As I start college, I’ll be taking on even more responsibility by paying my phone bill and car insurance, which is a big step for me. Taking personal finance and business classes in high school has helped me understand money in a way I wouldn’t have otherwise. I’ve learned that it’s not just about how much money you make, but how you use it. Budgeting, saving, and thinking before spending are things that actually make a difference. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that small choices add up, and being consistent with money is what really helps in the long run. My business classes have also taught me important life skills. I’ve learned how to set goals, think about my future, and make decisions that will help me later instead of just focusing on what I want right now. It’s also taught me responsibility and how to stay disciplined, even when things aren’t easy. As I get ready to start college and work toward my degree in criminal psychology, I plan to use everything I’ve learned to build a better future for myself. I want to be smart with my money, avoid unnecessary debt, and keep learning more about how to manage finances as I get older. My goal is to be independent and create a stable life where I don’t have to worry about money the same way my family has. Overall, my experiences and education have really changed how I see money and my future. I know that financial stability takes time, effort, and responsibility, and I’m willing to put in that work. I want to use what I’ve learned to not only support myself, but also be able to help my family one day.

During my sophomore year of high school, I was diagnosed with a kidney disorder that quickly became the defining factor of my daily life. What started as fatigue and routine appointments turned into surgeries, hospital stays, and months of recovery. Almost overnight, I went from balancing classes, activities, and time with friends to balancing medications, procedures, and uncertainty. The physical toll was difficult, but the emotional impact was harder. High school is already a time when you are figuring out who you are and where you belong. Suddenly, I felt different from everyone around me. While my peers talked about upcoming games, school dances, and weekend plans, I was coordinating with doctors and emailing teachers from a hospital bed. I missed ordinary teenage milestones such as team dinners, spontaneous outings, even simple days of sitting in class with my friends. I had never thought I would miss showing up to school so much. Volleyball, which had once been a steady part of my routine, became just another reminder of what I couldn’t fully participate in. Watching seasons continue without me made me feel like life was moving forward and I was stuck behind. I had always taken pride in being dependable. I was a strong student, someone teachers trusted, and someone teammates could rely on. When I began missing school and activities I felt like I was letting people down. Even when my coaches and teachers expressed understanding, I carried guilt. I worried that I was no longer the role model I had worked so hard to become. I also did not enjoy the feeling of people constantly feeling bad for me because I have always been the strong one. Illness made me feel fragile in a time of life when everyone else seemed to be gaining independence and strength. There were moments of loneliness that were difficult to explain. Being absent so often can make you feel invisible and I sometimes questioned whether people saw me as capable or only as “the student who is always sick.” I struggled with students thinking I was faking it to get out of school and even frustrated teachers has I missed quality instruction time, this only added on to my feeling of guilt and led me into a state of depression. It is challenging to build confidence when your body feels unreliable and your plans are constantly interrupted. Yet within that isolation, I learned resilience. I became my own advocate, communicating with teachers, arranging assignments in advance, and completing coursework whenever my health allowed. I studied in my free time and logged into classes from home, determined not to let my circumstances define my academics. More importantly, I began to redefine what strength meant, it was not playing through pain or pretending everything was fine. It was asking for help when I needed it and continuing to move forward everyday. Missing out on parts of the traditional teenage experience has given me something unexpected: perspective. I no longer measure success by perfect attendance or flawless participation. I measure it by persistence. My experiences have deepened my empathy for others who feel different or left out, and they have strengthened my determination to pursue my goals despite uncertainty. Although my illness altered my high school years, it did not diminish my ambition. If anything, it sharpened it. I have learned that setbacks do not erase potential, but they reveal character. I now move forward with a resilience that was earned, and feel great joy in beginning my college journey.

Relationships—romantic, personal, and professional—are central to both my personal development and my long-term career goals. I believe that who we choose to build connections with shapes our values, strengthens our character, and ultimately influences the impact we are able to make. Success, especially in a service-oriented field, is never achieved independently. It is built on trust, collaboration, and the ability to understand others on a deeper level. On a personal level, relationships have taught me emotional intelligence and accountability. Close friendships and meaningful relationships require honest communication, mutual respect, and the willingness to grow alongside another person. Learning how to navigate disagreements calmly, listen without judgment, and support someone else’s goals has strengthened my maturity and self-awareness. These experiences have shown me that healthy relationships are not about control or convenience, but they are about consistency, empathy, and shared growth. The ability to reflect on my own actions and consider how they affect others is a skill that extends far beyond my personal life. It shapes how I lead, how I serve, and how I approach challenges. Romantic relationships, in particular, require vulnerability and trust. They demand patience and emotional responsibility. Understanding another person’s perspective, especially during moments of conflict, strengthens resilience and communication skills. These qualities are essential for long-term success in any career that involves working closely with people. Developing the ability to remain composed, respectful, and solution-oriented under emotional pressure prepares me for professional environments where sensitivity and ethical judgment are critical. Professionally, relationships will play an even more significant role in my future career as a criminal psychologist. This field requires collaboration with law enforcement officers, attorneys, social workers, victims, and individuals within the criminal justice system. Building trust in these environments is not optional, it is essential. A criminal psychologist must communicate findings clearly, uphold strict confidentiality, and maintain credibility under high-pressure situations. Strong professional relationships built on integrity and respect will allow me to contribute effectively to investigations, behavioral analyses, and prevention strategies. In addition, my career goal centers on understanding human behavior in order to promote justice and prevent harm. That work cannot be done without empathy. The ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially those who have experienced trauma, requires emotional awareness and cultural sensitivity. Relationships teach these lessons in real time. They expose us to perspectives different from our own and challenge us to respond with compassion rather than assumption. By cultivating strong interpersonal skills now, I am preparing myself to serve future clients and colleagues with professionalism and humanity. Mentorship is another powerful aspect of relationships in shaping my long-term goals. Teachers, coaches, and advisors have already influenced my academic discipline and leadership development. Their investment in my growth has shown me the importance of guidance and accountability. As I pursue higher education and eventually enter the professional field, I intend to seek mentors who will challenge me intellectually and ethically. At the same time, I aspire to become a mentor myself—someone who supports and encourages others in their ambitions. Meaningful relationships create a cycle of leadership, where growth is shared rather than isolated. Ultimately, relationships provide both stability and motivation. They remind me that my ambitions are not solely about personal achievement but about meaningful contribution. The encouragement of those closest to me strengthens my confidence, while constructive feedback helps refine my goals. In a profession dedicated to understanding behavior, strengthening communities, and promoting justice, the ability to build and maintain strong, ethical relationships will define my effectiveness. Relationships are not separate from my goals, they are foundational to them. They shape my character, strengthen my communication, and prepare me to serve with empathy and integrity. As I pursue a future in criminal psychology, I am committed to cultivating relationships that reflect the values of trust, respect, and responsibility, knowing that they will guide both my personal growth and my professional impact.

Service, to me, is more than just volunteering hours or checking off a requirement. It’s a mindset. It means choosing to act with responsibility, integrity, and a real desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Throughout high school, I’ve tried to live out that mindset through my academics, leadership roles, teamwork, and involvement in my community. All of these experiences have shaped my goal of becoming a criminal psychologist, where I hope to serve victims, individuals, and communities through understanding, prevention, and justice. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA while taking Honors, AP, and college-level courses has taken discipline and determination. For me, doing well academically isn’t just about grades, it’s about preparing myself to make a meaningful impact in the future. I believe striving for excellence is a form of service because it equips me with the knowledge and skills I’ll need to help others. As a member of the National Honor Society, I’ve participated in service initiatives that showed me how powerful consistent, reliable support can be. NHS is built on scholarship, leadership, service, and character—values I work to demonstrate every day. Whether I was volunteering at events or helping classmates understand difficult material, I learned that service often begins with simply showing up and being dependable. Being part of the volleyball team has also strengthened my understanding of service. Volleyball taught me that success is never about one person, it’s about the entire team. Encouraging my teammates, holding myself accountable, and pushing others to improve are all ways of serving something bigger than myself. The sport has taught me resilience, communication, and trust—qualities that will be essential in a future career working with law enforcement professionals, victims, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Through FBLA, I’ve developed leadership, professionalism, and strong communication skills. Competing and collaborating in a structured organization challenged me to think strategically and make thoughtful decisions. These experiences connect directly to my interest in criminal psychology, where careful analysis, empathy, and integrity are essential. In this field, service means advocating for victims, assisting in investigations, and helping create prevention strategies that protect communities. My goal of becoming a criminal psychologist within a police department is deeply rooted in service. Criminal psychology combines science and justice. It seeks to understand behavior—not to excuse it, but to prevent harm and promote accountability. I hope to assist in profiling, behavioral analysis, and intervention strategies that contribute to safer communities. I am especially interested in helping strengthen communication between law enforcement and the psychological factors that influence criminal behavior. By applying research-based methods and maintaining strong ethical standards, I aim to support fair investigations while ensuring victims are treated with sensitivity and respect. Service is not just something I do, it is who I am becoming. Through my education, leadership, and future career, I am committed to using my skills to protect, support, and uplift others.

Scholarship applications often feel stressful, which tends to make students put them off, risking the chances of winning! To me, I see it as an opportunity to highlight all my successes. I believe that I should be considered for this scholarship because I have consistently demonstrated dedication, discipline, and a strong commitment to academic excellence and personal growth. Throughout all four years of high school, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA while challenging myself with a rigorous course load that includes honors classes, advanced placement classes, as well as being apart of a dual enrollment with a community college. This has given me the chance to start college in August of 2026 as a sophomore! By pushing myself academically, I have not only strengthened my knowledge, but also developed the perseverance necessary to succeed at the next level. In addition to my course work, I am a proud member of the National Honor Society, an organization that represents scholarship, leadership, service and character. Through NHS, I have participated in community service initiatives, such a delivering pumpkins, cookies, and flowers to assisted living homes during the seasons throughout the year. This allowed me to give back to the community while developing leadership and collaboration skills. Service has taught me the importance of using my education to positively impact others. Beyond academics, I have been actively involved in volleyball all four years of high school. Volleyball has strengthened my teamwork, resilience, and ability to perform under pressure. Being apart of a competitive team has shown me how to communicate effectively, support others, and remain disciplined even when faced with challenges. In addition to this I was a member of my high schools FBLA chapter, Future Business Leaders of America, for two years. As a freshman I experienced exponential personal growth as my dedication and hard work allowed to be be a first place winner at nationals in Orlando, Florida. I spent months working on my event, from late nights, early mornings, frightening competitions, and countless rehearsal days. I put hours, days, and months into my event so that I could make it the best it could be. As a girl who was once shy, introverted and scared of any social setting this experience taught me so much about being present and learning how to speak publicly for the benefit of myself and others. I believe this personal growth experience has led me to become the strong, fierce and dedicated person I am today. As a sophomore, I decided to serve as my school chapters Marketing Officer, where I was dedicated to recruitment, social media, and upholding all my responsibilities as an officer. FBLA also gave me many opportunities for community service such as serving free community dinners, delivering cookies to local businesses during the holidays and hosting many family fun night events! Through FBLA, I have gained valuable insight into leadership, professionalism, and real-world business skills. Competing and collaborating in FBLA has helped me grow in confidence, public speaking, problem solving, and community service. Balancing a rigorous academic course load with extracurricular involvement has required strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and determination. I have learned how to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and maintain focus on long term goals. Although I have been successful, it has not always been easy. Beginning my sophomore year I became sick with a chronic kidney issue. I was in and out of the hospital, undergoing multiple surgeries and constantly feeling at a low. During the last two years of high school I would miss months of school at a time and felt like it would never get better. As someone who struggles with chronic pain and illness school can feel like a chore and nearly impossible. Through all the struggles I never let myself fall behind, I did school in any way I can from completing homework in my hospital bed, getting on a zoom class straight from surgery and staying up late at night just to stay on track. These experiences have shaped me into a well rounded, driven individual who is prepared to succeed in whatever comes my way. My battles have taught me to encourage others to never give up even when it feels impossible, because with the right mindset anything is possible. Most importantly, I am deeply motivated to pursue higher education not only as a personal achievement but as a way to create meaningful change in my future. This scholarship would not only support my educational journey financially, but it would also affirm the hard work and dedication I have invested throughout my high school career was worth it.
