Since I was a little girl I have always been interested in building and designing things. That is why I want to pursue Mechanical Engineering in college. At my high school, I am in the STEM academy where I get to learn about the different pathways that go into STEM and how to specialize in the art of engineering; thanks to the PLTW resources. I am one of the top students in my academy so I am a STEM ambassador so when administrators and guests come to my school I get to teach them about STEM and engineering, and as an ambassador, I get to be on a student panel for my district. One of my long-term goals after college graduation is to be a project manager. All throughout my high school career, I have always had a full plate with being an ambassador, dancer, All-Star cheerleader, working, and a student but with that said I have learned to manage my time very well while also being able to work with others. I am the president of my Varsity dance team so this means that I have to do more work than the average team member, I have to take on responsibilities such as social media, event planning, and just being a servant leader. I am also captain of my All-Star cheerleading team so I know how to lead a group to success. My high school offers college classes for credit so I have been taking as many college classes as I can. That is one of my ways to make sure that I’m on the path to becoming an engineer as soon as possible. I excel in math subjects so I think that will help me be a great engineer.

As a woman golfer, there are many unique challenges and difficulties to overcome in pursuing this sport. Despite increasing recognition and respect for women in golf, sexism and discrimination are still pervasive in the industry, and women often struggle to receive the same opportunities and recognition as male golfers. One of the most significant challenges for women golfers is a lack of representation and visibility. While there are many talented women golfers, they are often overlooked in favor of male golfers, who receive more media coverage, sponsorship, and opportunities to compete at the highest levels of the sport. This lack of visibility makes it incredibly difficult for women to gain exposure, build a fan base, and earn the recognition and respect they deserve as athletes. Another major issue facing women golfers is the pay disparity between male and female golfers. Despite equal skill and dedication, female golfers are paid far less than their male counterparts, with the gender pay gap significantly wider in golf than in other sports. This devaluation of women's work not only limits their earning potential but also undermines their contribution to the sport. Women golfers also face challenges in accessing training and resources, with many clubs and courses being male-dominated and unwelcoming to women players. This can make it difficult for women to improve their skills and compete at a high level, as they may not have access to the same equipment, training facilities, or coaching resources as male golfers. Finally, women golfers often face sexist attitudes and discrimination from fellow players, coaches, and fans. This can range from simple comments and biases to outright harassment and abuse, which can have serious emotional and psychological effects on women attempting to pursue this sport. Despite these challenges, many women golfers continue to excel in the sport, breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo. With greater awareness and support for women's golf, including initiatives to increase exposure, improve pay equity and access to resources, and combat discrimination, we can create a more equitable and inclusive golf industry for all players. Ultimately, being a woman golfer can be a challenging pursuit, but it is one that is well worth the effort. With perseverance, determination, and a love of the game, female golfers can overcome any obstacle and thrive in this exciting and rewarding sport. Thank you for considering me for this award and for taking the time out of your day to read my essay!

With the help of time management and being organized throughout college will help me thrive as a college student since I’m already used to the course load due to taking college classes for the past 3 years. I believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have always been a dedicated student. This scholarship will help me with my long-term goal of becoming a project manager. I am the best recipient for this scholarship because I already have experience taking college classes and thriving in them, time management skills, leadership skills that will help me in project-based learning, and I have been studying my passion for the past 4 years helping me be very decisive that I want to be an engineer; that means I won't switch degrees wasting my time and your money. Thank you for taking the time and considering me for this scholarship.

I recently attended a Southwest Summer Camp and I got to see all parts of the company, the one that spoke to me the most was getting to see the Hanger where all of the planes are worked on and fixed. For the last 4 years, I’ve learned about engineering and what it’s like to build and create different things. The career path that I want to go on is mechanical engineering. I’ve been specializing in this for the last 4 years now and due to the PLTW pathway that has been possible. I have always been interested in working with my hands or designing things on the “Onshape” and “Inventor” programs when doing projects since I was really young. I am a STEM ambassador where I get to represent the STEM academy and the engineering program at my school. I am very dedicated to the art of engineering. That is why I want to pursue Mechanical Engineering in college.
