This Woman's Worth Scholarship
I want to prove to myself that I can achieve more than I ever thought I could and make the world a better place to support others. I want to create some form of business that can help others, be sustainable, and can provide something to the world. I’ve grown up seeing all of these issues start to arise and I want to help make a change like many organizations are doing in their communities, or even around the world. This has inspired me to want to create something that not only provides opportunities for others but aims to help alleviate some of these problems throughout communities and go bigger, too.
I’ve been volunteering at Berkeley Humane, an organization whose goal is to help animals and pets throughout the bay. They have two thrift shops that help fund this goal and that is where I volunteer. I not only get to work with fashion and get experience in retail, but I’m making a difference to help others but through my efforts, help those who are directly involved with the animals. I find this inspiring and want to do something similar in the future. There is also another element that I want to bring to the business I plan on creating in the future.
When I was younger, my father worked in bakery business, where they had a program to help those who’ve been incarcerated, to help get them back on their feet with a stable job. When I asked my father, apparently I hung out with one of those people and even though he seemed very intimidating to others, I wasn’t afraid and neither were my parents. He was not only kind and hard-working, but someone who wanted to get better. I hope that I can introduce a program like that within my own business. This kind of program helps others get back on their feet and that is such a beautiful thing.
My experiences and perspectives have given me the opportunity to see these things and be inspired by them, wanting to help change others’ lives for the better. I think I’m worth the dreams that I aspire to achieve because I want more experience in being other peoples’ support, but ultimately show others that they can do it for themselves, not just with my help. If I can believe that I can achieve such big things, maybe I can inspire others to think the same. I want to own a business that helps others believe and achieve what they want.
Thank you for reading this far and hearing my story out.
