“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” -Nelson Mandela
Hello, my name is Kylie Elixson and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I currently attend Wake Technical Community college and am getting my Associate’s Degree in the Arts before transferring to a university in hopes of persuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.
I love working with children so the choice to be a teacher was a no brainer for me. Not to mention, the multiple teachers in my lifetime who have made a huge impact on me. Now it’s my turn to give back and I can’t wait to make a difference in the lives of so many children.
I hope to be the kind of teacher who makes kids love learning. I know many children don’t have the greatest home life, but I hope no matter who the child is or what they’re going through that for 8 hours a day I can give them a safe and loving environment to learn and thrive in.

My favorite book of all time would have to be, “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. This novel is beautifully written and shines a light on the tragic reality of being in love with a terminal illness. One of the things I love most about this novel is the way that the author introduces the character to make them feel real and personable. Hazel Grace Lancaster is a girl who has a terminal form of cancer and is quite displeased with the mundane and depressing nature of the daily life she lives. She is tired of everyone constantly worrying about her and almost feels guilty for being a burden to everyone she loves. Her mother in particular is worried about her, so she sends her to a group with other teenagers in similar situations to Hazel. At this group, she meets Augustus, a young man who also has dealt with the harsh realities of having cancer. The two hit it off and become quite good friends that eventually turns into a romance. The reason I love this novel, and other novels by John Green so much is that he has such a effortless way of making the readers feel like they are connected to the characters of his story. He describes, not only the characters, but also the events in the book in such great detail that you can really put yourself in the story and be close to it. Green also uses metaphors in such a great way to where they have become famous quotes that will be remembered by some forever. This book has great writing, characters, plot development, and more. I was almost sad when I finished the book, since I didn’t want it to end. Which, in my book means the author wrote well.
