I am also very passionate about stopping human trafficking. Currently, I volunteer at Red Light Church. This organization rescues women and children from human trafficking. Chronic Boss Scholarship
I grew up in a home with two parents who fight autoimmune diseases. Nevertheless, they worked hard to overcome their illnesses and make positive contributions to our community. As I watched them fight their conditions, I was inspired to follow their example and give back. When I was twelve years old, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. As a result, I had to dramatically change my lifestyle to improve the symptoms of my illness. At first, I struggled daily and gave into discouragement. Then, I met several people who had overcome adversity and lived fulfilling lives. These individuals gave me the courage to face life's challenges and set goals to accomplish my dreams. After being diagnosed with a chronic illness, I was afraid to go to summer camp because of my accommodations. Thankfully, I faced my fears decided to attend. My life was changed for the better, and I found my calling to work with at-risk youth. As I grew older, I was selected to be a camp counselor. I love spending the summers encouraging at-promise children and pouring into their lives. During the school year, I also serve in my community. I come from a financially disadvantaged home where service was highly emphasized. As a result, I am actively involved in my local community and love serving at-risk youth. Our community works together to help underserved families. We host a Back to School Bash to provide school supplies for needy children each year. I also work at the local food pantry and thrift shop throughout the school year. We host an Angel Tree gift exchange to provide children with warm clothes and toys for the Christmas season during the holidays. This event inspired me to run a coat drive and donate jackets to a neighborhood homeless shelter. I also volunteer with Red Light Church and work to rescue victims of human trafficking. Currently, I serve as a director at RedLightChurch.com. During COVID, our organization fed over 400,000 people and provided medical care. We also started a school and homeless shelter for women in the Red Light Districts of India. I feel that women are often taken for granted and given limited educational opportunities worldwide. This passion for serving others has inspired me to become a clinical psychologist and earn my Ph.D. I plan to start a camp for underserved youth who struggle with chronic illnesses. My struggle with an autoimmune disease has caused me to face my fears and find a purpose in life. I have chosen not to let my disease define me. My struggle with the limitations of my physical body has led me to look deep inside and find my true purpose in life. Serving others is one of my greatest joys.
