    "Your Success" Youssef Scholarship
One of greatest dilemmas in my life as I am finishing my senior year of high school is finding the career path that is right for me. From taking a variety of classes throughout my education, understanding and learning my interests, and outside experience, I have determined a few majors that I would like to pursue. Two of these majors include mathematics and physical therapy. Mathematics has always sparked an interest in me from a young age, and I enjoy learning new ways to solve problems. I am taking AP Calculus this year, and I still enjoy this advanced level of mathematics. However in recent years, physical therapy has also been something of interest to me. My first exposure to the field of physical therapy was actually when I had to go to physical therapy myself. During a baseball game, I threw out my shoulder throwing the ball, and my doctor recommended physical therapy for a few weeks. My physical therapist taught me so much about her profession and her path to becoming a therapist. Now I have to decide whether to pursue my lifelong passion for mathematics and problem solving or switch to my more recent interest in physical therapy. Another reason physical therapy interests me is because of my personal value of health and fitness. I always try to learn more about physical fitness, nutrition, and other aspects of fitness such as weight lifting. This passion of mine started as soon as I joined my school’s track and field team and started running and training everyday. I didn’t realize how important eating the right foods and allowing your body to recover is in order to perform well in sports and races. I spend most of my free time exercising for both my physical and mental health, and it will always be a hobby of mine for years to come. Besides sports, training, and fitness, I also spend time with community service. One society in which I spend much of my time helping is the Spanish Honor Society. I joined this society towards the end of my sophomore year, and I met many of my friends through the events we helped at. I love helping others through this club, and I help out at every event possible, including our annual talent show, winter carnival, bake sales, and many other events. I also donate many items for events we call “Adopt-a-family”. During holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, we choose several families that might be struggling at the moment and we ask members of our club to donate what they can so that these families can have a great holiday. I thought this club did so many great things, so I decided to run for the treasurer position, and I won the election! Being an officer for this society has taught me how to be a leader, how to stay organized, time management, and has advanced my problem-solving skills greatly. As I mentioned before, running and weightlifting play a huge role in my life. I love running with my team and creating so many great memories. I would like to continue this lifestyle at my university by joining the college’s track and field team or running club. By doing this, I would be able to meet other people with similar interests as me and create an uplifting community and wonderful atmosphere by pursuing our passions.
