Hello, my name is Kyla Dalton, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Video Production at Collin College. My ultimate goal is to become a film director, where I can use storytelling as a powerful tool to inspire, challenge, and connect audiences. I am passionate about crafting stories that reflect diverse experiences, amplify underrepresented voices, and leave a lasting emotional impact.
Film is more than entertainment to me — it’s a form of expression, a call to action, and a mirror to the world around us. Through every project I take on, I strive to bring originality, authenticity, and a clear creative vision to the screen. As I continue to grow as a filmmaker, I am eager to collaborate with other creatives, push artistic boundaries, and help shape the future of cinema through bold, meaningful storytelling.

Pro-Life Advocates Scholarship
As a Christian, my pro-life position is deeply rooted in my faith and the understanding that every human life is sacred. The Bible teaches us that each person is created in the image of God, and this belief shapes how I view the world and all who inhabit it. Specifically, I have found inspiration in passages such as Psalm 139:13-14, which states, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” This verse reminds me that life, in all its stages, is precious, and that even before birth, each individual is known and loved by God.
Growing up in a Christian household, I was taught from an early age that life is a gift from God. My parents instilled in me the value of loving and respecting others, regardless of their stage in life or circumstances. This foundational belief has shaped my worldview, and it is the lens through which I evaluate every issue, including the topic of abortion.
In college, I have encountered many people, including close friends, who hold pro-choice views. These conversations have provided me with opportunities to engage in thoughtful discussions about the value of life and the ethical considerations surrounding abortion. While we may not always agree, these conversations have deepened my understanding of the complexities involved and have helped me clarify my own beliefs.
I approach these discussions with empathy and respect, seeking to listen to my friends' perspectives and share my own with kindness. Rather than simply advocating for my stance, I aim to create a space where we can explore the topic together and challenge each other’s assumptions. This approach has allowed me to strengthen my convictions while also understanding the fears and concerns that often shape a pro-choice position. I believe that through respectful dialogue, we can bridge divides and find common ground in our shared desire to protect and care for vulnerable individuals.
Although I have not volunteered directly for pro-life organizations, I actively support the pro-life movement in other ways. I regularly engage in discussions about the importance of supporting both mothers and children, recognizing that a pro-life stance includes advocating for policies that provide resources and care for women facing unplanned pregnancies. I firmly believe that the best way to promote a pro-life position is not just by opposing abortion but by fostering a culture that values both the mother and the child, offering them the support they need to thrive.
Ultimately, my pro-life stance is not just about opposing abortion; it’s about embracing life in all its forms and advocating for the well-being of the most vulnerable. As a Christian, I see my role as a servant to others, following the teachings of Christ in valuing every life. Through my actions and my involvement in the pro-life movement, I hope to contribute to a world where all human beings, born and unborn, are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Alexis Mackenzie Memorial Scholarship for the Arts
From a young age, I have always found solace and purpose in the arts. As a Christian, I believe that God has given us unique gifts to serve others, and I am passionate about using my artistic talents to inspire, empower, and uplift others. Art, in all its forms, has the power to connect people, stir emotions, and spark dialogue. Through my career, I plan to do just that—use my gifts to make a difference.
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, especially through film. The ability to craft narratives that resonate deeply with others is something I hold dear. As a Christian, I believe storytelling is a tool for building empathy and bridging divides. One verse that especially resonates with me is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This verse serves as a reminder that my artistic journey is not just about personal ambition, but about following God’s path and purpose for me. It reassures me that when I use my gifts for His glory, my work will have a lasting impact.
In pursuit of this path, I was recently accepted to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I will study Film and Television. It is here that I plan to hone my skills as a filmmaker and storyteller. But beyond the craft, my deeper mission is to use my art to amplify voices that are too often overlooked, particularly young Black girls. As the founder of KD Productions, a film company dedicated to creating authentic stories that center on the experiences of Black girls, I am committed to making sure that their voices are not only heard but celebrated.
As a Black woman, I understand the importance of representation in the arts. Young Black girls need to see themselves reflected in powerful, complex, and beautiful ways. This is why my business is so important to me. Through KD Productions, I aim to create content that empowers young Black girls to dream big and see the limitless potential within themselves. My mission is to use my films to inspire and support these girls, creating a platform that allows them to express their unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs.
The arts are a powerful tool for change. They spark wonder, raise awareness, and create essential dialogue on important issues. Through my work, I aim to highlight underrepresented stories and evoke emotions that inspire action. I believe art can transform and heal, contributing to a more inclusive and compassionate world.
This scholarship would help me further my education at SCAD and support my vision for KD Productions, allowing me to create meaningful change, especially for Black girls whose stories deserve to be told with dignity and respect.
In all that I do, I hope to live by 1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” Through my art, I strive to make a positive impact on the world.
