There is no doubt that many pieces of cinema bring about life lessons for all of its viewers. From the great Titanic to the simplicity of Forrest Gump, cinema continuously advises us to look forward, continue to innovate, and become better people. For me, however, Good Will Hunting stood out the most. While I might not be able to relate to the situation which the main character Will experiences throughout the movie, it brings a new perspective to my life on the difficulties of others and even myself. Although the Will is a genius, he always seemingly wants to hide his talents away from the rest of the world, as though he's scared. On top of that, he feels the need to stay in the same small town that he grew up in as he constantly fights the people around him. On top of this, he chases a girl named Skylar, but quickly gives up on trying to be with her because he's simply too scared of the chase. That's until Sean convinces him to be the person he truly wants to be. See Sean was in a similar kind of position to Will. Sean had a loving wife for just around 18 years, up until she passed due to cancer. Yearning for his love, Sean breaks Will down, forcing him to overcome his past childhood trauma and to finally knock some sense into him. This finally convinces Will to drop his current life, to leave his problem ridden town, and to chase the girl of his dreams and life which he so dearly wants. This change in mindset for Will caused my own mindset to change as well. Although I may not live even a remotely similar life to Will, I too was stubborn. I didn't want to take risks all the time. I was scared of making mistakes. What I didn't realize, however, is that I need to take those risks, because I know that I will regret not trying in the first place. Whether it's a girl, a sport, music, school, applying to colleges, I want to take risks now. Also, I finally understood the importance of sharing my feelings and opinions with others, just like Will did with Sean. While it may be uncomfortable, it's the best way to gain perspectives and even more knowledge on the issues that cloud my brain and stop me from doing things that I want to do. Not only was Good Will Hunting an incredible movie, but it taught be life lessons which not only will impact me now, but will continue to stick with me for the duration of my life.
