"Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done." Words by Heinlein that still inspires me to reach for the limit, for the limit is the sky.
I’m Kryszaina Maurice Donayre, 18 years old, and was born in the Philippines. I’m a dual credit student from TylerISD Early College High School and Tyler Junior College. I am delighted to have been presented an opportunity to study and major in Sciences. I am currently a member of National Honors Society and Phi Theta Kappa. Alongside, I have been competing in academics, such as University Interscholastic League (UIL) in Math, Social Sciences, and more.
Science is my hobby, loving to explore intricacies of what makes us humans and to celebrate our creativities. Along with Sciences, my hobbies are studying languages, drawing, table tennis, and singing.
A little background on me; when I was growing up, we were a low income family, we were presented with struggles and it made me realize that a reality could be change–that my reality could change. By prioritizing education, I could help my family live a life without struggles and worries. Through education, not only would I help my family, but I would also help my community.
Growing up, the Healthcare in the Philippines have presented difficulties in some lives. My goal since having the opportunity to study is to make healthcare accessible and affordable for anyone; whether it be for my family or community.
For this cause, scholarships can support me in a way that I can continue pursuing my education, and to achieve my dreams and goals.

When I was growing up in the Philippines, math wasn't my strongest subject, because it was difficult for a mere child like me to understand. Solving simple problems was my frustration as other kids were doing better than I was. But the difficulties that I experience with math when I was younger, changed when I came to America. I was in a new environment and a new setting, and it was difficult for me to adapt. But what made it hard for me to adapt more is the difficult subjects that I was given to be subjects. At the end of my first year in high school, math still hasn’t worked out for me. My second year started, and the beginning of the semester was the beginning of my fondness for math.
There are two reasons that I wanted to pursue a career in math, first was because I was inspired by my Algebra teacher who understood me, and the second reason is that I love learning languages. My Algebra teacher knew my weaknesses, and she helped me turn them into my strengths. She allowed me to know my self-worth and success in the future that I pave my way. She created a great impact on my life and this impact is what I aspire to do unto others when I finish my studies in mathematics.
In addition, I love learning languages. When I delve deep into the world of mathematics, only then I found out that mathematics is also a language; a language that is so beautiful and universal that humans could understand. Viewing math as a language prompted me to understand that here is the start of what I want to learn and to be.
As I delve deeper into mathematics, I realized something significant to my life that I now apply to my life. I view mathematics as the brain, the fundamental organ that allows the body to function all at once. Without this organ, the other systems of our body would not function. I view mathematics as the brain that is fundamental to all STEM fields and Non-STEM subjects. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Politics, Business, and Arts have some degree of math that is used in them. I admire the way that mathematics is a fundament for all things learned. I want to be a part of the fundamental piece of the future children's learning in math; I want to be the brain that allows them to function with their fondness for math. The fondness for something starts with someone willing to teach you and make sure that you're walking at their pace. When I finish my studies, I want to be the start of the future children's fondness for math, and I want to make sure that they're not walking behind me, but beside me.
