Who I Am and Who I’m Becoming
My name is Krystal, and I’m a proud Latina woman from Dallas, Texas. Growing up in a culturally rich and diverse city taught me a lot about identity, resilience, and ambition. I’ve always been proud of where I come from, but I’m even more proud of where I’m going. My dream is to become a Registered Nurse, and every decision I’ve made so far has brought me one step closer to turning that dream into a reality.
What drives me is the desire to care for others — especially those who are often overlooked. That’s why I spend as much time as I can volunteering in nursing homes. There’s something incredibly special about working with elderly people. They have wisdom, stories, and a quiet strength that I deeply respect. I’ve learned so much from simply listening and being present. It’s also where I’ve realized just how powerful compassion can be. A small gesture — a conversation, a smile, a helping hand — can completely change someone’s day. That’s the kind of impact I want to have as a nurse.
My love for people extends to animals too. I’m a total dog and cat lover — they bring joy, comfort, and a kind of unconditional love that’s hard to put into words. I believe the way we care for others, whether human or animal, says a lot about who we are. For me, caregiving isn’t just something I do — it’s part of who I am.
Becoming a nurse isn’t just a career goal — it’s a calling. I want to be on the front lines of care, providing not only medical support, but also emotional strength to those who need it most. I know it won’t always be easy. Nursing is hard work — physically, mentally, and emotionally. But I’m ready for that challenge. I’ve already seen the difference nurses make in people’s lives, and I want to be part of that. I want to be the person that patients can count on during their hardest days.
As a Latina in the medical field, I also know that representation matters. I want to be a voice for my community, and I want young Latinas to see me and think, “If she can do it, I can too.” Because they can. We all can. It just takes hard work, determination, and the willingness to show up — even when things get tough.
Saving on my student loans would allow me to focus more fully on my studies without the added stress of financial pressure. When I can focus on school, I can give it everything I’ve got — and that makes all the difference.
This journey isn’t just about getting a degree or a job. It’s about stepping into the best version of myself. It’s about making my family proud, honoring my heritage, and building a future where I get to do what I love every single day: help others.
