Greetings! My name is Kristianity Carter, daughter of Anthony and Kristina Carter. I am the oldest of seven children. I'm from the oldest city on the Mississippi River, Natchez. On June 4, 2021 I graduated high school as an honor student from Natchez Early College @ Co-Lin. My senior year was difficult for me because of Covid 19. All my classes was virtual, so I struggled in Math this year because of the circumstances. However, I did receive a B out of the class. To tell you a little bit more about myself, I come from a home where my parents was very engaged in my education. My mom was involved so much that many people thought she worked for our school district. She's been awarded parent of the year on several occasions as well as district parent of the year. My mom started Natchez Early College Academy PTSA and I couldn't be more proud of her. She stayed involved and she not only inspired me, but many of my classmates as well. So my mom has most defintely had the biggest influence on my life. I've learn so much from watching her lead meeting, to scheduling interviews with parents and students and so much more. All of what she has done and do is volunteer work. She cares about not only my education but others as well and that says a lot. Because of my mom's involvement and her leadership roles in our school district, made me want to get active, not only in school but in the community as well. Some programs that I've participated in is the Barbizon Modeling, Adams County Junior Cadet, Natchez Early College Academy PTSA, Natchez Early College @ Co-Lin Robotics Club, Natchez Early College @ Co-Lin Comic Book Club, New Hope Food Pantry, Patten for Sheriff Campaign, Adams Co. 4H Club and more. I look up to my mother because she's very outgoing and creative. So she's rubbed all off on me (smiling). From her inspiring my to get involved with different activities and projects, I fell in love with robotics. Math and science has always been my favorite two subjects which plays a major role in my field of studies. Because of my mother,  I am attending the Mississippi State University in Fall of 2021 majoring in Civil Engineering. I want be the girl from Natchez, Mississippi that comes back home after graduation with a plan to take my city to the next level with jobs while help our economy in the process.

Today, I am so grateful to God as well as my parents for how they brought me up. Parents are supposed to protect their children at all times and although I did not understand the why they had so many rules, I definitely understand why my parents raised me the way they did. I am Kristianity De’Nae Carter a 2021 honors graduate of Natchez Early College @ Co-Lin (NEC) in Natchez, Mississippi. I say this with pride because I could have easily been Kristianity, mother of someone or even a dropout if was not for my upbringing and the grace of God. No, I did not always make the best decisions, but I grew up in a loving and caring home where my parents would not let me give up or stop believing in me. They encouraged me so much and was very active in my education. While attending NEC I joined several clubs, but the one that I enjoyed the most was the NEC Robotics Club. I gained a love and passion for computer science and engineering like never before. My next goal in life is to attend Mississippi State University in Fall 2021 and major in Civil Engineering. The experience and knowledge I gained from being a part of NEC Robotics Club influenced me to focus my career on engineering. I love how robotics combines the fields of math, computer science, mechanical engineering and much more. The excitement of completing something that you built yourself is so overwhelming with happiness. To know that I can create something to make a difference in the world, that’s lifechanging! As I study at MS State I have plans to reach out to the founder of STEM NOLA, Dr. Calvin Mackie, and enlist as an intern student so that I can gain as much knowledge and hands on experience as I possibly can that will help me to advance more in my field of studies. When I graduate from MS State University with my bachelor’s degree, my goal is to become one of the best engineers known from Natchez, Mississippi. By this time, I will have developed a plan and narrowed down my job search options and decided if I want to attend graduate school. However, I want the investment that my parents made for me and the work that I have put in as a student to start paying off. I know that sometimes things happen in life and our plans change but reviewing those plans and goals will help me readjust things if needed and allow me to make the best decision in taking the next steps in my life to achieve my dreams. In August 2020, my senior year was full of so much stress and I was overwhelmed with so many emotions because of Covid 19. I worried about my grades because I could not focus like I needed to, then my dad caught the deadly virus. I wanted to quit. My grades began to fail because I completely shut down. I wanted to go to prom, see my classmates, have a normal school year and graduation because these are the things you are most excited about during your senior year. My mom saw I needed help, I know I needed help so we agreed that seeing a certified counselor would be a great start. I thank God everyday for her making that decision for me. Growing up as a child, I always thought that life was so unfair. I remember telling myself all the time that I had the meanest momma in the world. It was not because I did not think that she loved me because I know she did. She had strict rules and being a child, I did not like them. I never understood why I could not go spend the nights at my friend’s house or go to the movies unsupervised. I wanted to date but my parents did not approve of it at that time. I wanted a cell phone at a certain age and my parents would not allow me to have one. Most children my age parents would let them do just about anything. It was an easy yes for them, but it was a quick no for me. They would say things like, “Kristianity, you may not understand us now, but you will in the long run.” Sometimes my mom would say, “Just because everybody else is doing it, or have it, does not meant that you should too. Our rules are only to help you out of love, not to hurt you.” Today, I am so grateful to God as well as my parents for how they brought me up.
