Mental Health Empowerment Scholarship
Mental health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked in our society. As someone personally affected by PTSD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I can attest to the significance of taking care of one's mental health. Despite growing awareness about mental health issues, many individuals continue to face challenges in accessing appropriate support and understanding from society at large.
One of the reasons mental health is frequently overlooked is the stigma attached to it. People may feel embarrassed or ashamed to seek help for mental health concerns due to the fear of being judged or labeled. This stigma creates a culture of silence and avoidance, preventing individuals from reaching out for the assistance they need. Additionally, the invisibility of mental health conditions further contributes to the tendency to overlook them. Unlike physical illnesses or injuries, the symptoms of mental health disorders are not always visible to others. As a result, individuals may struggle silently, without receiving the same level of understanding and support that is typically extended to those with physical health issues.
The lack of accessible and affordable mental health services can lead to the marginalization of individuals suffering from mental health conditions. In many communities, adequate mental health resources are scarce, and individuals may face significant barriers in seeking professional help. This can perpetuate the cycle of neglect and exacerbate the impact of mental health issues on individuals and society as a whole. It is crucial to emphasize that mental health is just as important as physical health. Both are integral components of overall well-being and should be treated with equal significance. Raising awareness, combating stigma, and advocating for improved access to mental health services are essential steps in addressing the tendency to overlook mental health in our society.
In both high school and college, I implemented a system that allowed students to anonymously report whatever was making them anxious. In high school, I collected over 75 statements highlighting how mental health was not being taken seriously in our school. I took these concerns to the principals, who then implemented changes in the school, such as adding a student government position focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. These changes have had a lasting impact and are still in place today, promoting a more supportive and inclusive environment for students.
As someone who grapples with PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder, I firmly believe that prioritizing mental health is vital. It is essential for individuals, communities, and society at large to recognize the significance of mental well-being and work towards creating an environment where mental health is valued, understood, and adequately supported. By doing so, we can strive to ensure that no one's mental health is overlooked or marginalized.

Mental Health Importance Scholarship
Mental health is a crucial aspect of our overall well-being that often gets overlooked. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and plays a significant role in how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health.
There are several reasons why mental health is important. Firstly, it impacts our daily functioning and productivity. When our mental health is compromised, it becomes challenging to focus, make decisions, and manage our emotions. This can lead to decreased performance at work or school and affect our relationships with others. Additionally, mental health is closely linked to our physical health. High levels of stress and anxiety can weaken the immune system, making us more susceptible to illnesses.
For me, connecting with my childhood hobbies helps with my mental health. Engaging in activities that have been sources of joy and relaxation in the past can evoke positive emotions and nostalgia, which can have a comforting and calming effect on the mind. For me, playing video games can also provide a sense of escapism and offer a break from the stresses of daily life, allowing for a much-needed mental recharge. Video games also allow me to connect with my friends from all walks of life. Additionally, video games can provide a social outlet, enabling connections with friends or online communities, which can combat feelings of loneliness and enhance overall well-being.
Taking care of our mental health is essential for leading a fulfilling life. There are several things we can do to help improve and maintain our mental health. Firstly, it's important to prioritize self-care. Engaging in activities that bring joy and relaxation, such as hobbies, exercise, or spending time with loved ones, can have a positive impact on our mental well-being. Additionally, seeking professional help when needed is crucial. This can involve therapy, counseling, or medication, depending on the individual's needs. Creating a strong support system is also beneficial for mental health. Having friends, family members, or support groups to turn to during challenging times can provide comfort and reassurance. It's also important to practice mindfulness and stress-reducing techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, to manage and alleviate stress.
Prioritizing mental health is vital for our overall well-being. By taking proactive steps to care for our mental health, such as practicing self-care, seeking professional help when needed, and building a support network, we can lead happier and healthier lives.

My mother and her coworkers have been a tremendous source of inspiration for me in pursuing a career in nursing. I was fortunate enough to hear stories about what it was like to be a nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hearing about their dedication, compassion, and the impact they have on patients' lives has deeply influenced my decision. Their commitment to providing the best care, their ability to comfort and support patients, and their unwavering resilience in the face of challenges has shown me the true essence of nursing. Their stories and experiences have ignited a passion within me to contribute to the well-being of others and to pursue a career where I can offer compassion, care, and support to those in need. Their dedication to alleviating suffering and promoting healing has inspired me to embark on a path in nursing, where I hope to carry forward their legacy of empathy, kindness, and professionalism. I was fortunate enough to have a parent who was a nurse for a very long time. My mother helped me learn about a lot of the different specialties that are present within nursing. I always gravitated towards two specific fields: dermatology and pediatrics.
Dermatology is an appealing choice for several reasons. As a dermatologist, I would have the opportunity to help patients with a wide range of skin conditions, from acne to skin cancer. I would also have the chance to perform various procedures, such as biopsies and excisions, and potentially even cosmetic treatments. Skin health is not only important for one's physical well-being but can also significantly impact a person's self-esteem and mental health. Being able to address these issues and improve patients' quality of life would be deeply fulfilling.
On the other hand, pediatric nursing also holds a strong appeal. Working with children can be incredibly rewarding, as I would have the chance to provide care and support to some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Pediatric nurses play a crucial role in not only addressing physical health concerns but also in offering emotional support to both young patients and their families. The ability to comfort and care for children during challenging times is a privilege that cannot be understated.
Ultimately, the decision between dermatology and pediatric nursing will come down to my interests, strengths, and career goals. Dermatology offers the opportunity to specialize in a specific area of medicine and perform various procedures, while pediatric nursing provides the chance to work closely with children and their families in a more holistic, long-term care setting. Regardless of what specialty I end up in, I am excited about the prospect of pursuing either path. I know that I will give it my all to ensure my patients feel better. I look forward to further exploring a lot of specialties to make an informed decision about my future career.

Swift's surprise performance became an unexpected catalyst for self-discovery and personal growth, and I will always be grateful for the impact her music has had on my life.
Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
BookTok has recommended me a series of books that I never thought I would be interested in. I had ultimately decided to try reading BookTok-recommended autobiographies due to the reviews that they received on TikTok. These books, Jeannette McCurdy's autobiography, "I'm Glad My Mom Died," and Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare" have allowed me to delve deeper into the lives of two public figures that I grew up with.
McCurdy's memoir provides a raw and honest account of her life, delving into her experiences in the entertainment industry and her personal challenges, including the complicated relationship with her late mother. Growing up with the show iCarly, I felt a deep connection to the characters and the world they inhabited. Learning about what the show's creator and her mother did to Jeanette McCurdy opened my eyes completely. It made me realize that the entertainment industry can often conceal the struggles and challenges faced by the individuals behind the screen. It's a reminder that there's always more to a person's story than what meets the eye, and it sparked a newfound empathy and understanding for McCurdy and her experiences. Reading her story allowed me to gain a better understanding of the person behind the characters she portrayed and the struggles she faced as a young actress.
On the other hand, Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare," offered a unique perspective on the life of a member of the British royal family. Through his personal narrative, Prince Harry shares his experiences growing up in the public eye, his military service, and his journey to finding purpose and meaning beyond his royal role. This book provided an intimate look into the life of someone I had only known through media coverage and public appearances. Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare," provided a deeply personal insight into his life as a member of the British royal family. The book allowed me to empathize with him on a whole new level, especially in his reflections on his mother, Princess Diana. His candid portrayal of growing up in the public eye, accompanied by the loss of his mother, resonated deeply with me. It illuminated the emotional journey he had to navigate and the impact it had on his life. Learning about his experiences allowed me to appreciate the vulnerability and authenticity in his narrative, and it truly humanized him in my eyes. His reflections on Princess Diana reminded me of the universal nature of grief and loss and made me feel more connected to him as an individual beyond his royal persona.
Both autobiographies have allowed me to connect with these individuals on a more personal level, gaining insight into their triumphs, struggles, and the complexities of their lives beyond the public persona. Reading these books has deepened my appreciation for their resilience, vulnerability, and the human experience they share with their readers. I am grateful for Booktok recommending these books to me.
Netflix and Scholarships!
"The Umbrella Academy," created by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, is a fantastic show that has captivated audiences with its unique blend of superhero action, complex characters, and compelling storytelling. This Netflix original series, based on the comic books created by Way and Gabriel Bá, has garnered widespread acclaim for its innovative take on the superhero genre.
One of the most striking aspects of "The Umbrella Academy" is its rich and multi-dimensional characters. The show revolves around the lives of the Hargreeves siblings, each of whom possesses extraordinary abilities. However, what sets them apart is their deeply flawed and complex personalities, which make them remarkably relatable despite their superhuman powers. From the brooding and enigmatic Number Five to the impulsive and reckless Klaus, each character has been meticulously crafted to offer viewers a deep and emotional connection.
One of my favorite characters from the show is Klaus Hargreeves. Klaus Hargreeves is truly a one-of-a-kind character in modern-day television. His portrayal in "The Umbrella Academy" is a masterclass in crafting a truly complex and multi-dimensional character. Klaus, also known as The Séance, possesses the ability to communicate with the dead, but it's his personal struggles and deeply flawed nature that make him stand out, unlike any other character.
At first glance, Klaus may come across as the comic relief of the show with his carefree and often reckless behavior, but as the series unfolds, we see the layers of his character unfold. Klaus uses humor as a coping mechanism to deal with his traumatic past and the burden of his powers, making him a deeply relatable and sympathetic character. Klaus also has a journey towards self-discovery and self-acceptance. Battling with addiction and haunted by the ghosts of his past, Klaus undergoes a profound transformation throughout the series. We witness his struggle to find his place in the world and to come to terms with his extraordinary abilities, all while dealing with the weight of his family's expectations and the impact of their dysfunctional upbringing. What makes Klaus truly unique is the way the show navigates his experiences with sensitivity and depth. His moments of vulnerability and strength are portrayed with such authenticity that it's impossible not to empathize with him. His complex relationships, especially with his deceased brother Ben, add layers of emotional depth to his character, and his journey toward harnessing his powers and embracing his true self is nothing short of inspiring.
The series masterfully weaves together elements of family drama, time travel, and apocalyptic threats, creating a rich and immersive world for viewers to explore. The intricately constructed story arcs are full of surprising twists and turns, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats and eager for more with each episode. "The Umbrella Academy" boasts a visually stunning and distinct aesthetic that sets it apart from other shows in the genre. From its evocative cinematography to its meticulous attention to detail in costume and set design, the show creates a vivid and immersive world that brings the comic book pages to life in a way that is both faithful and captivating.
"The Umbrella Academy" stands out as a favorite show of mine due to its rich and multi-dimensional characters, inventive storytelling, and visually striking presentation. Gerard Way's creative vision, coupled with the talents of the show's cast and crew, has resulted in a series that has captivated audiences and left a lasting impact on the superhero genre. Whether you're a fan of the original comics or new to the world of the Hargreeves siblings, "The Umbrella Academy" offers a captivating and unforgettable viewing experience.

Being selfless is no easy feat. It requires a great deal of compassion, empathy, and sacrifice. True selflessness demands that we put the needs and well-being of others above our own, even when facing personal challenges. Being selfless means putting the needs and well-being of others above our own, even when facing personal challenges. It involves showing compassion, empathy, and making sacrifices without expecting anything in return. Selflessness is about making daily choices to prioritize the needs of others and making a positive impact on the lives of those around us. It takes a lot to be selfless because it requires a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others without expecting anything in return.
Every day, I consciously work hard to be as selfless as I possibly can be. I make an effort to prioritize the needs of others and show compassion and empathy in my interactions. Whether it's lending a listening ear to a friend in need or volunteering in my community, I strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me. It's not always easy, especially when facing personal challenges, but I believe that being selfless is a choice I can make every day to contribute to a more caring and supportive world.
I have experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to maintain a selfless attitude, especially while dealing with my diagnosis of PTSD. Despite the emotional and mental struggles that come with this condition, I made a conscious effort to volunteer at my church's food bank, knowing that I could contribute to the well-being of my local community. Even while working there, I was able to make people from all different walks of life smile because of my acts. It was a way for me to show support and care for others, despite my hardships. This experience taught me that being selfless is not just about grand acts of charity, but also about the small, daily choices we make to prioritize the needs of others. As a nurse, you have the chance to provide compassionate care and support to individuals when they are at their most vulnerable. Additionally, the field of nursing is incredibly diverse, with a wide range of specializations and career pathways, allowing for personal and professional growth. Moreover, the demand for qualified nurses is consistently high, providing a sense of job security. The potential for making a positive impact on society as a whole is significant, as nurses contribute to improving community health and wellness.
My mother, who is a nurse, has been a tremendous inspiration to me. She would always speak highly about the nurses on her floor and the teamwork she had experienced that day. Witnessing her passion for providing high-quality patient care and her ability to balance empathy with clinical expertise has deeply influenced my decision to pursue a career in nursing.
Although my mother was not working during the pandemic, we knew a lot of people who did. My mother's nursing friends around the world displayed incredible resilience and dedication in the face of unprecedented challenges. Their ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, provide compassionate care under immense pressure, and support patients and families during extremely difficult times was truly inspiring. I have been drawn to the field of healthcare for a long time, and I am particularly interested in pursuing a career either in dermatology or pediatric nursing. Both of these fields present unique and fulfilling opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of patients. Dermatology fascinates me because it offers a chance to blend medical expertise with a focus on aesthetics and quality of life. As a dermatology nurse, I would have the opportunity to help patients manage chronic skin conditions, provide education on skincare, and assist in potentially life-changing cosmetic procedures. The variety of cases and the ability to witness tangible improvements in a patient's quality of life is incredibly appealing to me.
On the other hand, pediatric nursing also holds a special place in my heart. Working with children and their families during times of illness, injury, or vulnerability requires a unique blend of compassion, patience, and resilience. The opportunity to support pediatric patients emotionally, provide them with a sense of comfort, and advocate for their needs is something I find deeply rewarding. I am inspired by the idea of being an essential part of a child's healthcare journey, from infancy to adolescence.
I'm drawn to the idea of making a difference in the lives of others, and I believe that both of these fields offer the opportunity to do so in meaningful and impactful ways. Although I do not know what specialty I may choose, I know that I will work as hard as I possibly can to be the best nurse possible. If I can make one of my patients smile while in my care, I know it will be all worth it.

I've balanced my studies with my volunteer work, always keeping my eye on the ultimate goal of making a difference in the lives of others. I've had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, and each experience has further fueled my passion for nursing.

Both specialties intrigued me for different reasons, yet I found a common thread in my desire to provide compassionate care and make a positive impact on my patients' lives. While I am unsure about which specialty I will ultimately pursue, I am driven by the same goal: to make a meaningful difference in my patients' lives. The prospect of having the opportunity to positively impact the well-being of individuals, whether through addressing skin concerns or caring for the unique needs of children, fuels my determination to excel in whichever path I choose. As I continue my journey, I am excited by the prospect of exploring both fields and embracing the challenges and rewards that each has to offer. I am confident that through dedication, genuine empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning, I will find my calling and fulfill my aspiration of bringing comfort and healing to those in need.
My mother was a dedicated nurse, and she always used to talk about the incredible teamwork she experienced on her hospital floor. She would come home after long shifts and tell us stories about how everyone worked together seamlessly to provide the best care for their patients. As a child, I didn't fully understand the significance of her stories, but as I grew older, I began to appreciate the importance of teamwork in a healthcare setting. Her experiences inspired me to pursue a career in nursing, knowing that the values of collaboration and support she spoke of were deeply ingrained in the profession.
I've learned that being a nurse is about more than just providing medical care; it's about offering compassion, support, and hope to those in need. I've seen firsthand the impact that a caring and dedicated nurse can have on a patient, and it's inspired me to strive for excellence in my own future career. As I continue on my journey, I am grateful for the support and guidance I've received from mentors and fellow nurses. Their encouragement has strengthened my resolve to pursue my dreams and has reminded me of the importance of never losing sight of my goals.

Tobey Maguire has always stood out to me as a fantastic actor to play Spiderman. His portrayal of the web-slinger has resonated with me due to its relatability and emotional depth. It all started when my close friend, Kristina, first introduced me to his version of Spiderman. I was immediately captivated by Maguire's ability to bring a sense of vulnerability, humanity, and earnestness to the character. When I had the opportunity to see "No Way Home" with a group of my friends, I was captivated by Maguire's performance
I believe Tobey Maguire is a good actor to play Spiderman because he perfectly embodies the awkwardness and struggles of Peter Parker. His portrayal of the character's internal conflicts and personal growth felt genuine and heartfelt. Maguire's performance brought a sense of realism to the superhero role, making Spiderman more than just a crime-fighting vigilante, but also a relatable and complex individual.
Furthermore, Maguire's chemistry with the other characters, especially Mary Jane, and his interactions with the villains, added layers to the story and made the conflicts more engaging. His ability to convey a wide range of emotions, from joy and humor to pain and self-doubt, made his Spiderman truly multidimensional.
In the end, Tobey Maguire's portrayal of Spiderman has left a lasting impression on me, and I believe his talent and dedication to the role have solidified his place as one of the most iconic actors to have portrayed the beloved Marvel character.

Nursing has been regarded as the most trusted profession for the past twenty years. Nurses have to be honest, compassionate, willing to give back, and conscientious within their practice. Nurses are also selfless with a highly admirable work ethic, working extensive shifts consistently when called to. The characteristics of a nurse are not only cultivated in the ICU but also in the classrooms of the universities that they attend. The demand and attention to detail, which is a requirement in the field, are characteristics I know that I have.
Ever since I was a child, the discipline of healthcare has always fascinated me. My mother had worked as a Medical-Surgical Nurse for over 27 years at our local hospital. My mother would go on about details about the nurses she would work with and how astonishing it was to be able to work with them as a team. She would always rave about how compassionate her coworkers were with their fellow nurses and their clients. The older I got, the more intrigued I became with the field and the human body. I would do an extensive amount of research on subjects nurses need to understand, such as pharmacology and anatomy. In 2020, I decided to go into nursing. When I was a child, I also developed a love for makeup and skincare. I loved learning and teaching my friends about the differences between serums, toners, and even sunscreens. When I found out that dermatology nursing existed, I realized that nursing was for me.
When I was in high school, I decided to join the local volunteer ambulance organization to gain some experience and give back to my community. During my time there, I became passionate about volunteering and helping others in need. I realized that I wanted to take on a more significant role and make a real impact. I started by organizing various fundraising events to support the volunteer ambulance organization. Through hard work, teamwork, and dedication, I managed to raise thousands of dollars to help the organization purchase new equipment and provide training for its volunteers.
As I became more involved, I found myself leading the youth group within the volunteer ambulance organization. I was thrilled to have the chance to inspire and guide other young people who shared my passion for helping others. Together, we organized community outreach programs, first aid workshops, and fundraising events to promote awareness about emergency medical services and safety in our town.
Through our collective efforts, we were able to engage more young volunteers and increase community involvement in supporting the ambulance organization. I was proud to see the impact of our work as the organization's resources and capabilities improved, allowing us to better serve our community in times of need.
My experience of volunteering and leading the youth group in the local ambulance organization taught me the value of teamwork, dedication, and community spirit. It was incredibly fulfilling to witness the positive changes we brought about through our hard work and commitment to helping others. Volunteering has become an integral part of my life, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in my community.
Fall Favs: A Starbucks Stan Scholarship
I remember my first day at university like it was yesterday. I was feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness as I walked onto campus, not knowing anyone. I decided to stop by the local Starbucks to grab a drink before my first class. I had decided to order a favorite of mine, a grande iced chai tea latte with pumpkin spice cold foam and two shots of espresso.
After taking my first sip, I instantly felt a wave of warmth and comfort. Little did I know that this quirky drink would become a catalyst for new friendships. As I sat at a table enjoying my delicious concoction, a fellow student approached me and commented on how good my drink looked. We struck up a conversation, and before I knew it, we were exchanging numbers and making plans to grab coffee together again. Throughout the semester, my iced chai became my signature drink, and it seemed to act as a conversation starter wherever I went. I found myself meeting new friends and classmates simply because of this unique drink choice.
As the days grew shorter and the weather turned colder, my commute home from university became a bit more challenging. The chilly autumn air seemed to seep through my jacket, making the walk to the bus stop an uncomfortable experience. However, there was one thing that never failed to bring me comfort during this time - my trusty iced chai. Despite the incongruity of sipping on a cold drink in the midst of dropping temperatures, the familiar taste of the chai, blended with the warmth of the pumpkin spice cold foam and the kick of espresso, never failed to lift my spirits.
As I waited for the bus, I held onto my iced chai. With every sip, I felt a sense of calmness and familiarity wash over me, making the commute home a little more bearable. The blend of flavors, coupled with the caffeine boost, helped me stay alert and focused during the journey, despite the weariness of a long day of classes and studying.
I often found myself lost in thought as I sipped my drink, finding solace in the routine of it all. It was my little moment of respite amidst the hustle and bustle of university life. Even as the bus jostled along the route and the sky darkened, I was content in the knowledge that I had my iced chai to accompany me on the journey.
Arriving home, I'd often find myself still savoring the last remnants of the drink, feeling a sense of contentment and warmth that went beyond the physical. The iced chai had become more than just a beverage - it was a companion that saw me through the changing seasons and provided a comforting constant in my daily life.
As I settled in for the evening, feeling grateful for the warmth and comfort my iced chai had provided, I realized that a simple drink carried me through the challenges of the day and brought a sense of familiarity and comfort as I made my way home. As I reflect on my university experience, I realize that my beloved chai latte not only fueled my late-night study sessions but also served as a delightful way to connect with others. It just goes to show that sometimes, a simple drink can lead to unexpected and wonderful friendships.
Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
My favorite aspect of Minecraft has always been the relationships that have been solidified due to playing the game with friends. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, my friends Autumn, Elaine, and I found ourselves seeking a way to stay connected despite the distance. We turned to Minecraft, a game that had always held a special place in our hearts.
With the determination to make the most of a tough situation, we decided to create our own Minecraft server. Every evening, we would log in, ready to embark on new adventures and build new creations together. As the days turned into weeks, we found ourselves growing closer as friends. Whether Autumn and I were mining for resources, Elaine constructing elaborate structures, or all of us simply exploring the vast virtual world, every moment spent in the game was filled with laughter and camaraderie.
Our Minecraft server became a sanctuary, a place where we could escape from the challenges of the outside world and just be ourselves. We shared stories, supported each other, and celebrated our triumphs as a team. As the days passed by, our nightly Minecraft sessions became the highlight of our days. We realized that it wasn't just about the game itself, but about the bonds we were strengthening through our shared experiences.
Even after the pandemic, I had the opportunity to play Minecraft with my college friends. We all bonded over the chaos our friend Alex brought to the server. I will never forget when my friend Stephen brought me an axolotl in a bucket for my base. We also laughed about the lackluster builds our friends built while making ours even more extravagant. The same sentiment I had with my elementary school friends stood true here, I was so grateful for the bond I built due to the game.
Looking back, I realized that the true magic of Minecraft wasn't just in the virtual landscapes we explored, but in the real-life connections we forged along the way. And I knew that no matter where life may take us, the memories of playing Minecraft with all of my friends would always hold a special place in my heart.

Fans especially loved Gehlee's confidence and outlook on other competitors. Former trot singer Seowon has also gone viral for how talented she is at such a young age.
UNIS' debut single "SUPERWOMAN" exemplifies their lyrical prowess and has an empowering message. The group's ability to deliver songs with meaningful and uplifting messages has resonated with fans worldwide, showcasing their potential to become a powerhouse group. With lyrics such as "I got power, not a follower, No one can stop me and can deny", it is evident that the girl group is signaling a message about empowerment and having confidence.

Although I am a relatively new fan of UNIS, I can't help but notice how talented and passionate every member is. Every single member brings something special to the group, something I don't see often in many artists that I follow. I am so excited to continue following all of the girls while they navigate being K-pop idols and I am so optimistic for their futures in the K-pop industry.
Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
Attack on Titan is an anime that I will forever cherish for the rest of my life. The story told in Attack on Titan had captivated me from the start. Watching Eren Yeager grow up in such a dystopian world and make decisions that drastically change the lives of the subjects of Ymir and the Marleyans had always captivated me. I found myself loving characters such as Armin Alert and Levi Ackerman due to how they held themselves. Even though Armin was not the strongest, he had a great head on his shoulders and had amazing problem solving skills. Levi made an amazing leader for his squad and just like me, is a major clean freak.
The way how the story had presented itself and all of the foreshadowing in Attack on Titan had always captivated me. From the very first episode, I was left wondering where the titans actually came from and how the story will unfold. This show is unlike any other show I have watched. Even though the show had changed animation studios, the quality of it never decreased. The darker energy that MAPPA had brought to the show had helped encapsulate the feeling of doom when it came towards the Rumbling.
I remember running to speak to my friend Kaitlin every single time I finished a season. We would have in depth conversations about the symbolism presented within the show. We even spoke about theories we had about how the show will progress. I remember once we had a conversation about why Eren and the Yeagerists had the perspectives that they did. She had always agreed with the Yeagerists, whereas I always agreed with the Survey Corps.
The final episodes will forever hold a special place in my heart. Every question I had about the show was answered and all of my favorite characters got good conclusions. Well, as good of conclusions you could have after surviving the Rumbling. I had especially loved the ending and how it helped give closure to a story that I have been following for years. I had also felt for Mikasa, having to be the one to finish off Eren to save the rest of the population. The show had ended at a turning point in my life, I was able to relate to the characters I had loved for years. As they got used to a new life in what used to be Marley, I started to embark on a journey to transfer universities. I hope to encapsulate the key characteristics from the characters I loved in Attack on Titan within my future job as a nurse.
Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
I spent a lot of time at my grandmother's house when I was younger. My aunt, who lived in her basement, would do the best that she can to ensure my cousins and I had fantastic childhoods. While my mother was working as a nurse in our local hospital, I would be playing games with my aunt in her basement. Some of my fondest memories included eating snacks and playing The Legend of Zelda with my aunt. To this day, we still talk about the newest releases in the Zelda franchise. We even got together and I showed her Tears of the Kingdom on my Nintendo Switch.
The Legend of Zelda has been a franchise that my aunt and I have loved for a very long time. Even though most of the games weren't co-op, we made them co-op. We would each take turns playing each of the dungeons. We would work together to form strategies to beat each of the dungeons. Some of the strategies we came up with I even used in my most recent play through of some of the games! From traversing the Great Sea in Windwaker to the sky in Skyward Sword, we worked together to solve every single puzzle that was presented to us.
I have the most fond memories playing the Legend of Zelda, Skyward Sword due to it being released on the Wii when I was growing up. I remember when I had first beat Ghirahim in the Sealed Temple for the first time. I had struggled a lot with combat due to me not understanding them completely. I had worked tirelessly to get through the Sealed Temple without the help of a video guide. All my aunt and I had were each other. When we got to the Ghirahim fight, we struggled a lot. It took us a very long time, but working together we were eventually able to beat him. I was so ecstatic that my aunt and I started screaming and jumping for joy. My grandma, wasn't so happy we were jumping and screaming.
Working together to solve the puzzles in Skyward Sword has also influenced how I solve problems in my life. It helped me learn that it is okay to ask for help when needed and that working as a team is so important for getting goals accomplished. I also learned that its okay to need help with specific tasks that might be presented to me. I will forever be grateful for Nintendo and The Legend of Zelda franchise being the focal point of my childhood.
“The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
Growing up, I always knew i wanted to do something ambitious with my life. I knew that working a standard nine to five office job wasn't for me. I wanted to work on something that was hands-on. Watching "The Office" when i was younger always gave me immense comfort. I always related to Pam, especially with her wanting to do more with her life than simply just being a receptionist for Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. Both Pam and I had made decisions within our lifetimes that could be considered risky. For example, she chose to leave her job at Dunder Mifflin to work for Michael Scott Paper Company. Even though the company was bought out by Dunder Mifflin, it still shows how ambitious Pam was to make a difference in her life. We also see her ambition when she chose to go to art school at Pratt and when she eventually chose to move to Austin with Jim.
In my life, I made the wild decision to leave my previous college in attempts to transfer somewhere for nursing. In my social circle, no one I knew had ever attempted to try and transfer into a nursing program. This move had caused a lot of uncertainty in my life, due to it not being confirmed if I would even get into a program. I had worked tirelessly to get good entrance exam scores, write essays, and prepare for countless interviews. In the end, both Pam and I had persevered. Pam got the opportunity to make murals all around Scranton and I eventually got accepted to every nursing program I applied to.
The show had helped me realize that having humor and lightheartedness in the workforce is vital to improve work life. When I eventually enter the workforce as a nurse, it is important that you can bring good humor and energy into every room that you enter. A hospital is a scary and grim place for most, so it is important for the hospital workers to try and make it as comfortable as possible as they can. Simply ordering food for a patient or joking with them about something simple will make all the difference in their healthcare journeys. Bringing this energy to your fellow coworkers on your floor will also make being a nurse so much more enjoyable. Being able to joke like how Jim, Pam, and Dwight did throughout the entire series will make the workplace environment that much more joyous. I hope to one day encapsulate the energy at Dunder Mifflin, but more productive.

I had made the decision to leave my original university in hopes to transfer, a move no one expected me to make. My old university used to make empty promises to its students, such as offering non-athletic students access to the gyms. I remained optimistic even through these were empty promises. "We're all so tired of everything, We wait for trains that just aren't coming, We show off our different scarlet letters." When my university had cut the athletics program, I knew it was time for me to leave.
People had judged my decision to leave school and take a gap year to focus on my mental health. But, I didn't let their words affect me. My friends and I were upset with the direction the school was heading in. Rumors had started to circulate locally that the university would be closing its doors soon due to a lack of funds. I lost a lot of friends due to me deciding to transfer. If I'm being honest, I lost a majority of my college friends because of my decision. Although, I always believed that "the best people in life are free". The friends that I stuck with helped uplift me and didn't bring me down. The friends I still have from my old university are amazing and I am forever grateful I had met them.
I have to admit, I was terrified to leave my university to transfer. After all, transferring into a school with a nursing major is unheard of in my social circle. I had held my head up high and gave transferring my all. I worked tirelessly to ensure I got amazing grades on my entrance exams, called universities, and wrote more essays than I care to admit. "Cause baby, I could build a castle, Out of all the bricks they threw at me, And every day is like a battle, But every night with us is like a dream"
I eventually got accepted into every university that I applied to for nursing. I eventually chose a university that is well known for nursing. It took me a very long time to feel excited and optimistic about going back to school. With my decision to transfer, and meeting some amazing people, I fully believe that I made the right decision. With my friends, we will persevere and make a huge difference in the world. We won't let the negativity of people, or universities, get to us.
"We sing it proudly, We are too busy dancing, To get knocked off our feet, Baby, we're the new romantics".

As teenagers, we like to pretend we have everything figured out when we really don't. Having to make a decision on a major and university to attend at seventeen really changed the trajectory of my life. A lot of tears later, it took me an extremely long time to realize what I wanted out of a college. I was extremely fortunate that I received a full ride to some universities. I eventually decided to attend a small liberal arts university located in Brooklyn, NY.
Eventually, the first day of classes rolls around. I hug my mother and take a deep breath before I get into my Uber. With friends giving me advice on the phone, I emotionally prepared for the start of my college experience. "College is going to be such a great experience for you!" my friend Amal stated. Once I made it to my university, I hung up with my friends and put on a huge smile on my face. Inside, something felt wrong. The energy on the campus felt dark, like I wasn't supposed to be there.
I immediately tried to get involved in student organizations such as Student Government Association and the Student Nurses Association. I was accepted as the first freshman senator ever for the SGA, making history within the university. I was a respected member of the SGA because I was able to bring up my experiences as a STEM major. I made some significant changes such as getting access to latex free gloves for the labs. I was in love with the school and was filled with immense school spirit.
The fall semester flew by. The halls were covered in Christmas trees and the crisp smell of the cold air was prevalent on campus. I remember being asked to stay behind and make posters for a basketball game that was happening. I was so elated because I love watching sports games and watching my university win. I was told to meet in the cafeteria and wait for everyone else. Hours passed, nobody had showed up. I remember texting the president, Amanda, about where people were. She was too busy to get back to me. It was this moment that changed my perspective on the university.
I started to notice that things would contradict themselves within the university. First, STEM majors were getting free iPads. Then, they weren't. Next, I received a major scholarship for joining some activities. Then, it was a replacement for a grant I received, keeping my tuition at the same price. The president of the university would contradict himself on everything he said, confuses the senators of the SGA. "And now you got me thinking, Two plus two equals five, And I'm the love of your life, 'Cause if rain don't pour and sun don't shine, Then changing you is possible, No, love is never logical"
Eventually, the university had gotten rid of everything that I loved. We had changed campuses to a three floor building in a sketchy area, the athletics program had been discontinued. I almost felt responsible for everything that transpired. "I know I could've stopped it all, God, why didn't I stop it all?"
It took me a while to realize the most logical thing to do was to transfer. Now that I left, I feel so much more optimistic about the future and the things I can achieve. I still hold onto the characteristics that I walked into my previous institution with, but I hope to continue to make positive changes in my community.
Combined Worlds Scholarship
Travel can be a transformative experience for individuals in many ways. It allows people to step out of their comfort zones and see the world from new perspectives. For someone like me, who is pursuing a degree in Nursing at Quinnipiac University, this exposure is invaluable. As a rising college junior with a 3.6 GPA, I have learned that having an open mind is vital to becoming a good person and a competent nurse.
Meeting new people with different perspectives and life experiences can shape how we view the world. When we travel, we encounter diverse cultures and traditions. This exposure can challenge our preconceived notions and broaden our understanding. In nursing, this is particularly important. Learning as much as possible about different cultures allows us to change how we work with clients. We learn to respect their beliefs and customs, which can make a significant difference in the care we provide.
For example, understanding cultural differences in healthcare practices can help us communicate better with patients and their families. It can also help us recognize and respect their preferences and needs. This cultural competence is essential in providing the best care possible. As a white woman, I am aware that my background may differ significantly from many of the patients I will care for. Travel can help bridge that gap by giving me firsthand experiences with diverse cultures and ways of life.
Moreover, travel can lead to personal growth and development in other ways. It can teach us resilience and adaptability. When we face new environments, we learn to navigate unfamiliar situations and solve problems creatively. These skills are crucial in nursing, where we often encounter unpredictable and challenging scenarios.
Travel also fosters empathy and compassion. When we see how people live in different parts of the world, we become more aware of the struggles and joys that shape their lives. This awareness can inspire us to be more compassionate caregivers. It reminds us that, despite our differences, we share a common humanity.
Travel can be a transformative experience that promotes personal growth and development. For a nursing student like me, it offers valuable lessons in cultural competence, resilience, and empathy. These qualities are essential in providing the best care possible to our patients. By embracing the opportunities that travel presents, I hope to become a more effective and compassionate nurse.
Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder within the past year. I had to learn coping mechanisms for anxiety and dissociation very early on without the help of a therapist. The older I got, the more people I had met who were also struggling with their mental health. I had eventually learned that there is not one perfect solution that will work for everyone when it comes towards their mental health.
Take me for example, I know that talking to my friends about pop culture or just ranting out my daily life helps me out a ton. But, this may not be the case for everyone. I know a ton of my friends who would rather just curl up on their couch and watch New Girl to help with their mental health. Every person is inherently different and will respond differently to coping mechanisms. I think it is most important to just simply be there for someone who is struggling with their mental health. Sometimes, the only thing that someone needs is an ally.
In relation to academics, most people would agree that mental health is not prioritized. I remember my elementary school threatening to give me a detention because I had a panic attack while in Physical Education. Trying to remove the stigma of mental health on future generations will allow them to realize that it is okay to have bad mental health days and taking time solely for yourself isn’t wrong. This will also allow for future generations to feel that it is okay to talk about their mental health and that it is something that they shouldn’t feel afraid to talk about.
Bold Great Books Scholarship
My favorite book has to be “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” I had first started reading the Harry Potter series when I was in middle school. I was hooked almost immediately. I found myself relating to a lot of the characters throughout periods of my life. When I was in middle school, I related to Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood because I felt ostracized and alone while trying to survive middle school. In high school, I deeply related to Hermione Granger because of her love of academics, her friends, and her very uncontrollable hair.
“The Goblet of Fire” stood out to be because I was hooked on the story almost immediately. I loved hearing more about different worlds, so being able to hear about different wizarding schools such as Durmstrang and Beauxbatons really intrigued me. I loved the challenges Harry had faced due to not only the Tri-Wizarding Tournament but also the annoying journalist Rita Skeeter.
This book also holds a special place in my heart because of my friends. I remember having so many conversations with my friends about this book and the characters within it. It brought us closer together as a friend group relating that we were all upset about Cedric. Even to this day, we still can have amazing conversations not only about this book but the series as a whole.
Bold Happiness Scholarship
Something that makes me happy is the friends that I have now. When I was younger, I didn’t have a lot of friends and was ostracized from the rest of my class. I remember sitting in the cafeteria alone for a huge chunk of my time in middle school. I was always described as a very quiet and timid girl.
As I got to high school and eventually college, I met some amazing people who genuinely make me smile almost on a daily basis. We all sit in my schools library and just enjoy each other’s prescience as we stress about our school work. Almost every night, all of my friends call and we play video games together. We talk about things that have happened during the school day or other random things. People now describe me as a bubbly, happy, social butterfly.
I remember once we held a birthday party for my friend Tyler. We had hijacked an empty classroom and ordered a pizza with soda. He was in awe that we all sat there with him and genuinely cares about his birthday. I remember when I was on my way home, my mom had said to me for the first time ever that my friends are “really cool and really genuine.”
Deborah Stevens Pediatric Nursing Scholarship
I am choosing a career in nursing because I always knew that in my life, I wanted to help people. I remember sitting in class one day at the age of eight and I had said to myself: "yeah, I want to help people!" Ever since I was a young girl, I have spent my time working with others and making sure people are always smiling. In school, I would always make sure that no one is sitting alone and that everyone always had a friend to talk to if they wanted it. I would take time out of my day to make sure that my friends had everything that they needed to succeed at their tasks.
When I was seven, my father got really sick. He eventually became bedridden and had to rely on people such as my mom and travel doctors and nurses to help take care of him. I was eventually asked to help take care of him. With the assistance of the nurses and doctors, I would work the oxygen tanks and change bandages whenever needed. I had to learn how to operate these things at a young age because my mother would always be working as a full-time bedside nurse at a local hospital. It was from this experience that I learned I wanted to work in the medical field as a career.
My mother was a huge inspiration for me when I decided to go into nursing. She would tell stories (as much as she could tell us without violating HIPAA) about work. She had talked me through all the different careers I could go into after getting my RN. Pediatrics always stood out to me when she would describe it. I always felt that kids were wholesome, and genuinely want and strive for the best. They are also innocent and see the best in people. I want to be able to work with them to make sure that going to the doctor is not a scary experience, but rather a fun experience.
I remember always being scared of the doctors when I was younger. Every time I was in the ER or just in the doctor's office for a checkup, I always noticed that they said a lot of fancy words that I didn't understand. It terrified me as a kid because I didn't know what would happen next. As I grew up and took some medical classes, I finally understand what the doctors were saying. I want to be able to work with kids to make their experiences at the doctors less terrifying. One of my very close friends had worked in a summer school last summer. She was able to connect with a lot of troubled kids in a way that none of the other workers could because she was able to talk to them about their interests. This inspired me deeply, and it made me realize how important that kind of connection is within this field. Being able to remind kids about the best experiences in their life, or their favorite things, will be able to help them through their worst.
