Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
I first realized how important mental health was when I found myself sitting alone in my car after school one afternoon, gripping the steering wheel and trying not to cry. It had been one of those weeks where everything piled up at once: tests, homework, work shifts, family responsibilities, and I felt like I was failing at all of it. I remember thinking, “Why does everyone else seem fine except me?” That moment of feeling overwhelmed made me understand something I had ignored for too long: mental health is not something you deal with only when it gets bad. It’s something you have to take care of every day, especially as a student. Mental health is important to me because it affects every part of my life, from how well I do in class to how I treat the people around me. When I’m stressed or anxious, it becomes harder to focus, harder to stay motivated, and harder to believe in myself. As a first-year college student, I’m learning how to balance academics, work, and personal responsibilities, and sometimes that balancing act feels impossible. Taking care of my mental health allows me to be present, stay organized, and feel confident instead of constantly overwhelmed. I’ve seen firsthand how ignoring mental health can lead to burnout, and that’s why I take it seriously, not just for myself, but for the people around me who might be struggling silently like I once was. In my community, I advocate for mental health in small but meaningful ways. At home, I try to make conversations about stress and emotions normal. My family didn’t grow up talking about mental health, so opening the door to those conversations helps everyone feel less alone. With my cousins and younger relatives, I check in on them during stressful weeks at school, reminding them that it’s okay to ask for help or take a break. Sometimes just hearing “I’ve been there too” can make a difference. At school, I try to support my classmates by being someone who listens without judgment. When I notice someone looking overwhelmed or discouraged, I take the time to ask how they’re doing. I’ve learned that a few minutes of kindness can completely change someone’s day. I’ve also shared campus mental health resources with classmates who didn’t know they existed, including counseling services, tutoring options, and stress-management workshops. Even though I’m not a counselor or an expert, I believe every student can help create a healthier environment by making mental health a normal and acceptable topic. I also advocate through my actions. I make sure to practice what I tell others, setting boundaries, taking mental breaks, staying active, and reaching out when I need support. I want people around me to see that taking care of your mental health isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength. It shows responsibility and self-awareness. Receiving the Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship would help me continue this journey. It would reduce financial stress, which is one of the biggest sources of anxiety for me as a student. With this support, I could focus more on my classes and mental well-being instead of constantly worrying about expenses. It would also motivate me to keep advocating for mental health in my community and continue supporting others who may not feel comfortable speaking up yet. Mental health matters because it shapes the way we live, learn, and grow. I want to be part of a future where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered, and this scholarship would help me continue working toward that goal.
    Bick First Generation Scholarship
The first time I truly felt the weight of being a first-generation college student was the night before my classes started. I was sitting at the kitchen table with my schedule pulled up on my phone while my parents sat across from me, both excited and nervous. They tried to give me advice, but then my dad laughed and said, “We don’t really know what any of this means, but we’re proud of you.” In that moment, I realized that I was stepping into a world my family had never been part of, one that I would have to learn to navigate on my own. That moment was both scary and motivating, and it’s something I carry with me every day. Being a first-generation student means more than being the first to go to college. To me, it means carrying my family’s dreams along with my own. My parents worked hard their entire lives, but never had the chance to continue their education. They always told me to aim higher than they were able to, and now that I’m in college, I feel like I’m honoring their sacrifices. It also means facing challenges that many people don’t see. I’ve had to learn how to fill out forms, register for classes, manage financial aid, and understand college expectations without having anyone at home who could explain how any of it works. Even though it’s overwhelming at times, it has taught me how to problem-solve, advocate for myself, and stay determined. One of the hardest challenges I’ve faced is balancing school with the financial pressure I know my family feels. I work part-time while taking classes, and even then, it’s not always enough. There have been moments when the stress made me question whether I could afford to stay in school at all. But every time I think about giving up, I remind myself why I’m here. I want to build a future where money isn’t always a worry, where my parents don’t have to work so hard, and where I can show my younger relatives that it’s possible to chase big goals even when you start with very little. The Bick First Generation Scholarship would make a huge difference in this journey. It would relieve some of the financial weight I carry and allow me to focus more on my classes instead of constantly worrying about bills, textbooks, or whether I can afford next semester. It would help me stay on track toward my dream of earning my degree and building a life that reflects the sacrifices my family made for me. What drives me is the desire to make them proud and to prove to myself that I can break barriers they never had the chance to. This scholarship wouldn’t just support my education, it would support the future I’ve been working so hard to build.
    Future Green Leaders Scholarship
The moment I first realized how important sustainability really is happened on a day that felt completely normal at first. I was driving with my family to visit a park we used to go to when I was younger. I remembered it as a place full of trees, clear water, and clean trails. But when we got there, I saw trash along the riverbank and patches of dead grass where people used to play. It didn’t look anything like the place I grew up visiting. Standing there, I felt a mix of disappointment and responsibility. That moment made me understand how quickly the environment can change when people stop taking care of it. That experience is one of the reasons I think sustainability should be a priority in the business field. Businesses make decisions every day that affect communities, natural resources, and the planet itself. Whether it’s how products are made, how waste is handled, or how energy is used, companies have a huge influence on the environment. As our world faces more challenges like pollution, climate change, and disappearing resources, I believe businesses have a responsibility to operate in ways that protect the future rather than harm it. If sustainability isn’t part of business decisions, then the impact can be long-lasting and difficult to reverse, like what I saw at the park. As a freshman studying business, I am learning how companies work from the inside out, and sustainability can no longer be something that is optional. It has to be part of the foundation. When businesses choose eco-friendly materials, reduce waste, or invest in renewable energy, they set an example for others to follow. They also show customers that they care about more than just profit. I believe that doing the right thing for the environment can actually help businesses grow, because people want to support companies that make responsible choices. In the future, I see myself using my business degree to help companies reduce their environmental impact in practical and meaningful ways. One of my goals is to work in management or operations, where I can influence how resources are used and how systems are designed. I want to help businesses create more efficient processes, reduce waste, and switch to sustainable materials whenever possible. Even small changes, like better recycling systems or smarter energy use, can make a big difference when applied across a whole organization. I am also interested in helping businesses partner with local communities to support environmental projects, such as clean-up events, tree planting, or educational programs. I believe that sustainability becomes stronger when businesses and communities work together. Not only does it help the environment, but it also builds trust and shows people that companies care about the places where they operate. My long-term dream is to one day start my own business that puts sustainability at the center of everything it does. I want to prove that a company can be successful while still protecting the environment. I want my work to inspire other young people to believe that they can be leaders in sustainability, no matter what field they choose. Receiving the Future Green Leaders Scholarship would help me continue on this path. It would support my education and allow me to focus on learning how to become the kind of business leader who puts the environment first. I am committed to making sustainability a priority in my future career because I want to help protect the planet for the next generation, so that places like the park I loved growing up can stay beautiful for years to come.
    Built for Business Scholarship
When I look back at the moments that shaped who I am, one memory always stands out. I was in middle school, waiting at the front window for my parents to come home. They had both picked up extra shifts that week, and even though they tried not to show it, I could see the stress on their faces when they finally walked through the door late at night. Seeing how hard they worked just to keep everything steady made a deep impact on me. That was the first time I realized how much a stable career and financial knowledge can change a family’s life. It also became the moment that pushed me to pursue a business degree and build a better future for myself and the people who sacrificed so much for me. As I start my freshman year of college, earning my business degree already feels like the beginning of something bigger. I know that understanding business is more than just learning how companies make money. It’s about learning how leadership, planning, and decision-making work together to create opportunities. I want to understand how to budget, how to manage people, and how to take an idea and turn it into something real. For me, these aren’t just skills, they are tools that will help me create stability in my own life and eventually support my family. The Built for Business Scholarship would have a huge impact on this path. My biggest challenge has always been the financial side of college. Even with savings and working part-time, the cost of tuition and books adds a lot of pressure. This scholarship would ease that stress and let me focus on actually learning instead of constantly worrying about money. It would help me stay committed to my goals without feeling like I’m falling behind financially. More than that, it would show me that someone believes in my potential and in the future I’m trying to build. Studying business has already changed the way I think. In my classes, I’m learning how organizations function, what makes teams productive, and how problem-solving is a skill that can be practiced. Even though I’m only a freshman, I can already see how these lessons apply to real life. For example, I used to get overwhelmed when things didn’t go exactly as planned. Now, when challenges arise, whether it’s a tough exam, a scheduling conflict, or something personal, I try to step back and view the situation from a business leader's perspective. What’s the problem? What are the possible solutions? What resources do I have? Making that mindset shift has made me feel more confident and capable. Another reason this degree matters so much to me is because of the kind of life I want to create. My parents have given me everything they could, even when it meant putting their own dreams aside. I want to be able to give back to them in the future. A business degree will give me the chance to earn a stable income, grow in a career, and eventually be in a position where I can support them the same way they supported me. I also want to make a positive impact in my community by working with local businesses or even starting one of my own someday. I believe that strong businesses can create jobs, support families, and help a community grow. The Built for Business Scholarship would bring me one step closer to all of these goals. It would help me focus on my education, develop my skills, and keep moving toward the future I’ve been working so hard to build. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m motivated, determined, and ready to put in the work. With this scholarship, I would be able to continue my path with confidence and turn my goals into reality.
    Beatrice Diaz Memorial Scholarship
The moment I realized how much my background shaped me happened on a warm summer evening when I was walking home from my part-time job. I remember seeing the lights in our small neighborhood and thinking about how far my family had come and how much farther I wanted to go. That simple walk made me realize that where I come from is not something that holds me back, it’s something that motivates me every day. I grew up in a hardworking family that never had anything handed to them. We moved a few times while I was growing up, always trying to find a place that felt stable. Even though things were not always easy, my parents taught me what it means to stay committed, be responsible, and keep pushing through challenges. Those lessons became the foundation of who I am. They also helped me understand the value of education and why earning a degree matters, not just for me, but for the future I want to build. I am from a community where people help each other because they know what it is like to struggle. Growing up around that kind of support made me want to work in a field where I can make a positive impact too. That is one of the main reasons I chose my degree program in business. I have always been interested in how organizations work, how leaders make decisions, and how a simple idea can turn into something that creates real opportunities. The more I learned about business, the more I realized I could use these skills to help others the same way my community helped me. As a freshman in college and going into sophomore year, studying business feels exciting and challenging in the best way. I like that it combines creativity and problem-solving with structure and planning. I enjoy understanding what makes a team work well, how to communicate clearly, and how financial choices affect the bigger picture. I also like that business can fit into almost any passion. Whether I want to start something of my own one day or help improve an existing organization, a business degree can take me in many directions. That flexibility is important to me because I want a career that allows me to grow and make a difference. My long-term goal is to build a stable life for myself and be able to support my family in the future. They have sacrificed so much for me, and I want to repay them by creating a career that gives me financial independence and room to grow. One day, I hope to start a business that creates opportunities in my community, especially for young people who may not believe in their potential yet. I want them to see that no matter where they come from, they can reach something bigger. Receiving the Beatrice Diaz Memorial Scholarship would help me continue moving toward these goals. It would allow me to focus on my education, reduce financial stress, and stay committed to becoming the first in my family to graduate with a degree. I am motivated, hardworking, and ready to keep pushing forward. My background is my strength, and I want to honor it by building a future that my family and community can be proud of.
