Bio

I am embarking on a new chapter in my life and pursuing my dream of attending college for the first time at the age of 40. I have 4 children and one grandchild. I am the first in my family to attend college. I want to show my children and grandkids no matter what life throws at you to never give up on your goals and dreams. My disability has made me have to change my ideal career goal, but in the process I have found a fulfillment in reimagining the shape and pace of my future career. I am grateful for the opportunity to further my education and am committed to making the most of my journey towards achieving my academic goals.

My name is Kristina Moore, and I am attending EOSC, majoring in Business. As a 40-year-old woman, a mother of four, and a grandmother, my journey to higher education has been anything but typical. My path has been filled with adversity, but through these challenges, I have learned resilience, personal growth, and the importance of never giving up.    Growing up, I always dreamed of going to college, but life had other plans. I became a mother at a young age, and my responsibilities shifted to providing for my family. When my firstborn was a few months old I was diagnosed with a debilitating disease that led to me becoming disabled. Despite my aspirations, I had to put my education on hold. Over the years, I faced numerous health challenges, including living with daily pain. This disability has not only affected my physical life and abilities.. it also limited my career options, but it did not diminish my determination. Instead, I adapted, found new passions, and proved that no obstacle can stand in the way of my success.     I am the first person in my family to attend college. This journey has been both exciting and daunting. I have had to navigate the complexities of higher education on my own, without the guidance of family members who have been through it. Despite these challenges, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA. I am driven by my desire to set a powerful example for my children.    Raising four children and now having a grandchild has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and perseverance. Balancing my family responsibilities with my studies has been challenging, but it has also shown me the importance of time management and prioritizing what truly matters. My children are my biggest motivators, and I want to set an example for them that no matter what obstacles you face, with hard work and determination, any dream is within reach.    Living with a disability has shaped my outlook on life in profound ways. It has taught me to appreciate the small victories and to find strength in the face of pain. It may limit my physical abilities, but it has not diminished my drive to succeed. I have learned to focus on what I can do rather than what I cannot. This mindset has been crucial in my academic success.    I aim to use my education to create a better life for my family and to give back to my community. I want to show other Native American women and individuals with disabilities that it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve your dreams. My ultimate goal is to become a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman, using my skills to help others and achieve financial stability.      My journey to higher education has been filled with challenges, but it has also been a testament to my resilience and determination. Overcoming adversity has shaped my personal growth and influenced my goals and aspirations. I am committed to using my experiences to inspire others and to continue striving for excellence in all that I do. This scholarship would not only support my educational journey but also empower me to continue overcoming obstacles and achieving my dreams. Thank you for considering me for the opportunity.
