Bio

My name is Kairee Elizabeth Mays. I am an 18-year-old first-generation college student at Hillsborough Community College SouthShore, pursuing a path to become a Registered Nurse and eventually a Nurse Practitioner. I grew up in Ruskin, Florida, graduated from Lennard High School in May 2026 with a 3.8 GPA and Principal's Honor Roll, and I am now completing my nursing prerequisites full-time. I hold a Certiport/Pearson VUE Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB) certification because I believe financial literacy is not optional for someone building generational wealth. This fall I am registered full-time for Anatomy and Physiology II, English Composition I, Early American History, and College Algebra, with a target nursing program application date of May 15, 2027. I have logged over 100 community service hours through Key Club, elementary school tutoring, and SouthShore community events. I am a recipient of the Community Foundation Tampa Bay Scholarship in honor of Ronda Richards Corr, awarded to a Lennard or East Bay graduate pursuing nursing. I am the first in my family to attend college. Every barrier I have navigated, I have navigated without a roadmap. That is exactly why nursing matters to me. Not just as a career, but as a platform to return to my community as someone who stayed, invested, and served.

Every patient entering a healthcare facility carries not only a physical ailment, but also the vulnerability that comes with facing the unknown. My desire to step into those fragile moments and offer both clinical expertise and genuine human empathy is what drives my journey in medicine. My name is Kairee Mays, and as an undergraduate student at HC (Hillsborough College) pursuing my bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), I am building the foundation necessary to make a meaningful, lasting impact on the world through compassionate patient care. My commitment to academic excellence and personal growth has been a constant guiding force in my life. Throughout high school, I maintained a strong dedication to my studies, ultimately graduating with a GPA 3.4, and principal honor roll. Recognizing the value of a versatile skillset, I also earned a certificate in entrepreneurship and small business, which taught me critical thinking, leadership, and resourcefulness qualities that are essential when navigating complex healthcare environments. Driven by a deep passion for human biology early on, I challenged myself during my senior year by enrolling in dual-enrollment college courses for Anatomy and Physiology I. Successfully mastering the rigorous curriculum, earning an A in lecture and a B in lab, solidified my passion for the biological sciences and confirmed that nursing was my true calling. Looking forward, my ultimate goal in medicine is to transform how patients experience care during their most challenging moments. I want to provide comfort to people in their darkest times of pain, offering a comforting presence and reassurance when they feel most helpless. Pain, whether acute or chronic, can strip away a person’s quality of life and make routine daily activities feel like impossible hurdles. Through my career as a nurse, I aim to actively participate in healing those whose pain disrupts their normal lives, helping them regain their independence, strength, and sense of self. By combining rigorous clinical knowledge with unwavering empathy, I hope to be a source of relief and hope for every patient under my care. A career in nursing is more than just a profession to me, it is my path toward making the world a kinder, healthier, and more supportive place. And along the way concur as many challenges as I can along the way so that I can help as many patients as possible no matter how difficult they can be, even if it is one patient at a time.

My name is Kairee Mays, and my Christian faith is the foundation of who I am, shaping both my daily life and my aspirations. In a world that can often feel unpredictable and overwhelming, my personal relationship with God serves as my anchor, guiding my choices and giving me the spiritual strength to persevere through life’s challenges. Throughout my life, my faith has been a constant source of resilience. Whenever I face setbacks or find myself in difficult situations, my belief in God keeps me moving forward. Instead of allowing temporary hardships to discourage me or cause me to give up, my faith reminds me that there is a greater purpose at work and that I am never walking alone. Furthermore, my faith acts as my daily moral compass. The teachings of Christ instruct me on how to live with integrity, helping me clearly determine right from wrong. By aligning my actions with these values, I am able to make positive decisions that protect my future and allow me to treat others with kindness, respect, and love. As I prepare to enter the healthcare field as a nurse practitioner, I know that my faith will continue to be my greatest asset. Healthcare is a demanding profession that requires not only clinical skill but also immense emotional and spiritual strength. I firmly believe that God will guide my steps, directing me toward the right academic and professional opportunities, and ultimately placing me exactly where I need to be to best serve my patients. Once I begin my career, I know I will experience both rewarding moments and challenging times. During the high points, my faith will keep me humble and grateful for the chance to promote healing. During the difficult times, such as dealing with critical patient cases, long hours, or emotional loss, I will lean on God as my primary source of comfort and peace. Knowing that I can cast my worries onto Him will allow me to remain strong and resilient. This spiritual foundation will prevent burnout, enabling me to consistently provide the compassionate, high quality care my patients deserve. In conclusion, my journey is shaped by my devotion to God. My faith has kept me strong in life, and it will surely guide me as a Nurse practitioner. With Him leading the way, I am ready to embrace my calling and serve all others with love, through the lords works.

My name is Kairee Mays, and my ultimate goal in life is to become a dedicated nurse who helps others navigate their most difficult and painful moments. Choosing a career in healthcare is not just a professional choice for me, it is a deeply personal calling driven by a desire to provide comfort, empathy, and unwavering support to individuals when they are at their most vulnerable. I want to be the person who stands by patients and their families, offering a steady hand and a compassionate heart through the darkness of illness. This ambition was mostly shaped by my own family’s history and the devastating losses I experienced during my childhood. When I was just 9 years old, my grandmother passed away after a heartbreaking battle with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Only three years later, at the age of 12, my grandfather lost his fight with cancer. Witnessing two of the most influential people in my life suffer from terminal illnesses was incredibly painful, but it also opened my eyes to the true essence of humanity within medicine. During those horrible times, I closely watched the nurses who cared for my grandparents. Even though the harsh medical reality meant they could not save their lives, those healthcare professionals never stopped caring. They brought a sense of dignity, warmth, and genuine empathy into the room every single day. They didn’t just monitor vitals or advise medication, they comforted our family, listened to our fears, and made sure my grandparents felt valued and loved until their very last breaths. Their dedication taught me that nursing is as much about healing the spirit and easing suffering as it is about treating a physical ailment. The profound impact of those nurses is the driving force behind my pursuit of this career. They inspired me to transform my personal grief into a purpose driven future. As a nurse, my goal is to pay that compassion forward. I want to be there for patients during their hardest moments, ensuring that no matter the prognosis, they never feel alone or forgotten. By channeling the memory of my grandparents and the grace of the nurses who looked after them, I am determined to dedicate my life to helping others find peace, comfort, and strength in their times of greatest need. I feel that if I take on this profession I will be able to do more for people then I could before with my grandparents which will help me feel more accomplished in my life and I will be able to help people more by my own hands.

Every global community is woven from the individual lives within it, and building a more empathetic world begins with how we care for one another during our most vulnerable moments. As a first generation college student, my journey toward higher education has been driven by my desire to make a meaningful, hands on impact. I intend to use my unique talents and skills to foster global empathy and understanding through the practice of nursing, transforming healthcare into a bridge for human connection. True empathy requires a deliberate commitment to active listening and unconditional kindness. In the fast paced environment of modern medicine, patients often feel overlooked, invisible, or reduced to a single diagnosis. My goal as a nurse is to change that dynamic by ensuring that every individual under my care feels seen and valued. I will show unyielding patience to all of my patients, creating a safe space where they feel comfortable, heard, and never rushed. By taking the extra time to understand their unique backgrounds, fears, and personal stories, I can provide comprehensive care that honors their dignity. Furthermore, nursing provides a powerful platform for cultural humility and cross cultural understanding. Illness is a universal human experience that goes beyond the limits of geographic, linguistic, and cultural boundaries. By treating every patient interaction as an opportunity to learn and connect, I will work to dismantle the biases that often divide communities. This patient centered approach ripples outward, when families see their loved ones treated with deep respect and compassion, it restores their trust and inspires a broader culture of kindness. My perspective as a first generation student has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of looking at challenges through multiple lenses. I will carry these strengths into my nursing career, advocating for underserved populations and promoting fair, compassionate care. Ultimately, global unity is not built through grand gestures, but through steady, daily acts of intentional care. By blending medical expertise with deep emotional intelligence and persistent patience, I will use my nursing career to cultivate a healthier, more understanding, and more deeply connected global community. And I am fully committed to have my patients feel comfortable and feel understood when in my care, to help make even just a little bit of change in the world. My name is Kairee Mays, and I am fully committed to using my education and my passion for healing to make a healthier, more understanding, and more deeply connected global community.
