I am currently a full-time adult student studying Industrial and Organizational Psychology with a minor in Business Administration. I also work full-time, but after putting off my degree for over 14 years, I decided it was time to chase my dreams and make them a reality. I want to do this not only for myself, the betterment of my family, to show my sweet two-year-old that she is capable and able to do anything she puts her heart and mind towards accomplishing, but for my community too.
I have worked for over 10 years as an EMT, both as a medic on the ambulance and a dispatcher, and while I love helping people and taking care of those in my community, it was time to take care of me. There is a high burnout rate and stress due to long hours, hard calls, and a lot of wear and tear on the body (mind and spirit). The department I last worked for had a hard time navigating the need for superior management and emotional support for the employees/patients. This lack of communication and the need for better management skills led me to FINALLY chase my dreams of helping those that continuously help others. With my degree in Psychology, my background in EMS, and my business leadership skills, I hope to complete my degree in I/O psychology (and business administration), so that I can return to an administrative role in EMS. I want to help employees and employers better navigate the daily stress and needs of each other. I want to help implement new training styles (in communication, community engagement, psychology awareness, and emotional/physical support for medics)....

I am the mother of a bright and beautiful two-year-old daughter. She is the love of my life, and I want to the very best life for her. I want to be the best mother, role model, and person I can possibly be for her. I want to ensure that I am able to support her and help her reach all and any dreams she has for herself. I want to show her that she is able and capable of moving mountains, and in doing so I had to follow my own dreams. I have been an EMT for the last ten years. This has been hard work, mental, phsyically, and emotionally, and I want more for myself and my family. I have worked 12-16 hour shifts to support my family and have missed out on so much of her little life. This has been the drive and push I needed to do more and be more. I love helping people and my community but I was time for me to help myself and my own family. I wanted to further my education and to make sure our family had more financial stability for her future. So, after almost being out of school and neglecting my dreams of earning my degree for over 10 years, I have decided to go back to school. To avoid large amounts of debt, I have been mostly a nontraditional student and taken alternative credit programs, however this year I had to enroll at the University and transfer my credits. This is the first year I am forced to feel the financial burden of obtaining my college degree, so I am reaching out to apply for any scholarship necessary to help me help my family. I am chasing a degree of industrial and organization psychology with a minor in business administration. My degree with allow me to work "normal hours" with better pay, while not only helping my family and my baby girl, but also helping future employees of any company I work for. My dream and passion is for people and with my degree I will be able to help business and employees train, maintain, and grow the very best relationships.
